Another Tip... not just visit Punta Cana. There are great places located in the north side of the country. Cheaper prices also.

I can help you out with that if you need to. Also, hes pretty on point with everything he said, so, if you indeed come to Dominican Republic, pay atention on what he said.

...as a Dominican i can tell you his tips are very accurate.
Just one EXTRA, the North Side of the island is a wey better experience if you want to enjoy the country; also cheaper.
Punta Cana is a more high end turist trap, with not much turist natural attraction.
You can Google some of this beaches and rivers destination, most of them are 1 hours tops again from Puerto Plata Airport.
Playa La Ensenada - Cayo Arena - Playa Diamante - Playa Sosua - Los 27 Charcos Damajagua - Cola de Pato
    And a little farther again,
Salto el Limon, Salto de Jimenoa, Constanza, Jarabacoa, etc

The guy is on point. I go to Punta Cana every year for the last 6 years and already booked to return in 2020. I live in Canada. So know what the exchange rate is before you take Canadian money and exchange it to American money. A cheaper way to book excursions is to read the travel booklets or google excursions and pay for them before you go. It is cheaper. At the airports some currency agents try and get you to exchange your cash for their currency. DON'T do it. American money is accepted basically anywhere. Another tip unfortunately it happens everywhere, as soon as you get in your room if you are on a resort is to put all your cash, cards you have, jewelry passports, and any prescription AND non prescription drugs, cell phones, cell phone chargers in the safe. Just got back 3 days ago and while we were at the beach party someone broke into our room and when we got back the room had been tossed. They did not not get anything because it was in the safe. I only take enough money for tips each day and leave the rest in safe. People will steal whatever they can to sell it for quick cash. Even the over the counter pills etc...If you want to go to the casinos or the discos be prepared. The recent resort we were on informed us if we wanted to stay in the disco we had to buy $100.00 worth of their booze. When we said no the 7 of us were asked to leave. Went to complain at the desk only to be told that the casino and disco were privately owned even though it was in the middle of the resort and could not stop them from doing what they want. So make sure you check that out first. And haggle with the locals and their wares. They love to haggle.

My 1st trip to the D.R. was in Sept. 2011. I was supposed to stay in Santo Domingo but the hotel where I wanted to stay room rate had sold out. At the last min I book a resort in Juan Dolio for 2 weeks. Turns out I made out good bc the resort had all amenities, the beach was across the street from the resort, cafe, markets, and western union was nearby. Local food was great, bought food to cook(my room was a studio). I did get an ear infection on the day just before coming back to the states. I wasn’t upset bc it didn’t happen earlier which would’ve ruined my trip. Yes,definitely check the currency, watch your surroundings and where you go.

If you are coming to this country i suggest you are a bit more carefull than usual, muggings are a bit too common for confort, just stay in areas where there are other people and keep your phone in your pocket while on the streets!

Great job sharing about Dominican Republic, you gave very good tips. I was sharing some of the same things with co-workers about my trip to D.R. The D.R. is a very beautiful place to visit, just be careful when out shopping or on the town. Do not keep all your money with you, and make sure you have small bills separated from bigger bills like in a different pocket and do not flash cash. Just a few safety tips.

If ever in Fula, Bonao, 🇩🇴 there's 2 options for swimming 1. El Rio De Fula which is free to go. Or 2. Swimming Pool Piscina A.F.P. where you can rent for the day and have your family or group event there. And Enjoy!!!!

Punta Cana is great, but we have very cold mountainous areas that are great to visit as well like Constanza; and other great beaches like Bahia de las Aguilas, Palmar de Ocoa, Samana, and Cabarete especially for people who like kite surfing. This doesn't normally apply to Punta Cana but I'm still putting things out there.
We are REALLY loud, like shouting is normal talk to us, and if you are not staying at a resort and more like a motel you will hear loud music at 3AM, of course it depends on where you are going in the DR. Also we are really touchy, like we meet someone for the same time and we are already hugging and kissing them like we have known them forever, again, if you are in a more tourist area this normally won't happen, but just to make sure ;)

Any tips for women wanting to travel to the DR alone? Stay in the tourist areas for safety I suppose

This is very accurate, but instead of visiting punta cana, go to Cabarete, it’s way better and less tourists.

Amazin review, very accurate. If you love nature it, worth checking out Dominican Tree House, its a different experience.
