Considering AOE was a pretty subpar line to begin with compared to previous movie lines this feels surprisingly better in how it's engineered than a majority of them. Transformation isn't exactly the greatest, but as knight themed robot still looks decent. Dino however leaves a lot to be desired.

Yeah, after seeing this, I'd definitely say that if you want an actual 2014 AOE Grimlock, go for the voyager one. The proportions are better in both robot and dino mode, transformation doesn't seem to be as bad, and seems to have slightly better articulation with having dedicated ankle pivots. The only thing I can say that this one does better with are the weapons, because the voyager has to hold it's weapon in a weird way
The only one amongst the Dinobots from the AoE era that would've been worthy of the "Leader class" mantle was that Construct-Bots Dinofire Grimlock. Big and beefy, despite the very nature of the Construct-Bots figures. Similarly, the regular Grimlock from that line makes a very worthy Voyager sized Grimmy...even if that cool TLK repaint of the actual AoE Voyager did a better job until SS07 Grimlock came along... And speaking of those Construct-Bots, the Strafe is quite nice for a Voyager sized Strafe...even if it should've been Swoop. 🤪🤪🤪
great video man! i can assume that the arms have that weird outwards joint clicky thing was a result of stability issues found in playtesting? so in dino mode, a leg wouldn't just buckle and he'd slam his chin into the ground. and also so kids could romp him around and he'd stay standing after.
Hey fair warning, the chrome plastic pegs on the dino mode where you plug the shield on are very fragile...one peg on mine is still in the shield but the other seems to hold it on the rare occasion i keep it in dino mode
I have this guy…. Didn’t know how I felt about him so I want the g1 looking Dinobots … but yeah… he’s definitely on my shelf in T. rex mode cuz I’m definitely not tryna lose his mace and shield lol

This transformation is shockingly similar to the beautiful G Creations Grimlock. Though it's SHOCKING how different they are
I got the 2 pack platinum edition of leader class Prime and Grimlock and in that 2 pack grimlock has this green/earthly feel which is my go to

When I first saw this figure existing especially in his Dino mode. I said “he looks like a hotdog” or a sausage and it still applies to this day.

Gotta say, the flip-and-change Grimlock dino mode looks better

I have the platinum version that came with the leader Optimus, and the paint scheme does a lot to make it look better in both modes
The Voyager was way better. Even scales with the other dinobots. It's a funky design anyway metal skeletal dinos.
