According by me, DiRT Rally 2.0 is better in everything: sounds, graphics and also in realism. WRC9 is a good game but Codemasters seems to know what they are doing about Rally.

@@joell037 That's a tricky question, because they both lean into sim. I think that on the gravel and snow Dirt Rally is better, but dirt's tarmac is really slippery for some reason. WRC feels great too, although I haven't actually tried the classic cars in that game, and the damage models seem to have a similar amount of forgiveness. Also if you're into rallycross definitely get Dirt Rally 2. If I were to buy one it would be the dirt rally deluxe edition or whatever it's called so that you get all the cars and stages. And to be honest I've found that I tend to play Dirt more than WRC. It's just more challenging and fun to me.
@@joell037 I just realized I forgot to mention the career. The career in Dirt Rally 2 is pretty decent imo but WRC 9 seems to have a much more fleshed out career mode. I haven't played a ton of career in either game, so you can find more info elsewhere if the career matters to you.

There're some driving techniques that are valuable in real life but you can't use them in the games even with proper kit because the physics doesn't account for some things. Some of the cars in the game I have a lot of experience with in real life like the Fiesta R2 and Impreza and they don't behave like they would in real life in either game. Quite close, but with very noticeable differences. Speed is way off in Dirt Rally 2.0, it knocks seconds off the acceleration speed. WRC I actually haven't tested what it's like, but the speed feels more natural so I never had to test it. Take the DR2 Fiesta R2. Irl you'd go 0-62mph (100kmh) in about 8 seconds on gravel. In DR2 you'll be at 60 in 5. Doesn't sound like a lot, but it does dramatically influence how you play and your perception of speed. And it's just that kind of stuff that make it not so much a realistic game. But you could definitely practice rallying in both of these games, they are sims in that regard. Just not amazingly accurate sims. I'd recommend DR2 as well. Feels more thrilling than WRC.
I play both WRC and Dirt Rally games, DR is the better game overall but WRC is still pretty fun. I use a CSL Elite wheel. DR 2 has better car control, better physics (sans tarmac), better FFB (took Codies months to get to that point), better sounds, big collection of cars, and has VR. WRC 9 has better weather, better career mode, and licensed cars and stages.
Does Dirt feel more realistic overall? I'm really looking for a rally game nd want as close to a sim experience as it gets, but I cant really tell which is best. I have seen the tarmac physics in DR tho, I really wish theyd update those to feel better. But i've no clue how they are on WRC, are they any good?

If they'll ever put the wrc9 x1 or switch version for $10 I'll get it to try it. I got dirt 2.0 deluxe edition for $14 on X1 yesterday (the standard edition was only $9 I think if you're interested). Wrc apparently doesn't like to put their games on sale.

Yep. Stages are the huge part of the experiance for me and dirt tracks always felt soulless for me. On top of that, I really dislike their post-processing effects - mostly bloom and color correction. It has that vaseline-y, almost cartoony look to it. In WRC i'm always interested to see what's behind the corner, i keep looking at the vistas (which were the cause of many crashes and DNF's :P). The weather effects are also amazing - i only wish i could see some thunders/lighting strikes in the bg. Career mode also seems more interesting, tho i barely remember how it looked in DR2
Have been playing both on my pc for a while now! Have to say wrc 9 have definitely upped their game for this one and the tracks are so much fun.. But dirt2.0 is still in my opinion Miles ahead of wrc 9 in terms of overall feel, physics, graphics and sound. I find racing with dirt 2.0 on my sim rig is so thrilling but maybe lacks the selection of more maps and cars! I would love if the gr yaris was in dirt2.0 and maybe tracks like Mexico too because I know codemasters would do such a good job with them.

Both games are great in their own way. Try playing DiRT for a while then WRC and vice versa, you can appreciate both for what they are. I personally get alot of enjoyment from playing most of the Rally games over the last 20 years.
I did that and my main takeaway from it was that WRC is crap for what I want in a rally game. The cars feel way too light and the force feedback is unbelievably bad. Dirt Rally 2.0 just seems much more of a rounded game. The force feedback actually gives you good enough information to correct for mistakes and the graphics look brilliant. That’s just my opinion tho. I completely understand that people like both games.
Dirt Rally feels so much better than WRC9 when using a Clubsport V2.5 force feedback wheel. I hope Dirt Rally 3 will have as many great looking locations as WRC9.
wrc9 has really interesting stages.far more difficult to drive in these roads and more realistic co-driver.also the modern 380ps wrc cars.anything else i prefer dirt
I prefer better physics on gravel than on tarmac which is offered by only 2 games yet (dr2, rbr), wrc 9 is far from reality anyway, if you want to simulate tarmac rally, play Assetto Corsa since its most realistic tarmac rally sim

Dirt Rally cockpit view rain/storm is basically as close to real thing as it can get. WRC no comparison there. The movement of the car, the weather fx and visibility are spot on.
Like both games but WRC 9 has the better (tarmac-gravel-mixed surfaces) physics and better stages IMO....Cant see me returning to DR 2.0 anytime soon unless there is a major physics upgrade and more stages.

@@magical5181 If you want an out and out experience if on PC then get RBR (Richard Burns Rally) IMO I much prefer WRC9 over DR 2.0 but both are great games or even the Original Dirt Rally which I rate over DR 2.0. I would buy Dirt Rally not DR 2.0 as it's cheaper plus you can see if you like rally and if you do then buy WRC9 👍

@@magical5181 not the guy you ask, but I also prefer dirt rally 1 over 2.0 but 2.0 has much better lighting and immersion. Also DR1 came out in 2016 so it has good graphics and runs with an average of 120 fps 1080p on my RX580, whereas DR 2.0 runs with an average of 75. This is max settings on both games.
@@magical5181 I would go with Dirt Rally the Original over WRC9 and DR 2.0 plus already said Dirt Rally is easier on the graphics card as DR 2.0 and WRC9 stretch my GTX 2080 to the limit but the immersion is worth it especially with WRC9. RBR is a great game but Dirt Rally (original) is where I would start and you will have hours and hours of fun trust me 🙂👍
F1 and the Dirt series have pretty much just been locked in a time capsule and buried with micro-transactions sprinkled on their graves. Save your old copies for next-gen!
They're about a tit for tat comparison. I think it's impressive how DR2.0 adds in the sound of the chassis squeaks and overall a much better audio presentation. I bought DR2.0 because it went on sale first and it was my birthday. Hayyy 🙌😁. Looks like I did pretty good. Great video, thanks, brother!
@@ruffyfarmracer9498 Dirt Rally 2.0 but make sure you get the GOTY Version thats the same price as the regular DR 2.0 but it comes with the tracks and cars from Dirt Rally so you dont have to buy the rebuy them as separate DLC which is expensive. Also, get WRC 8 or 9. WRC feels very different but WRC has a hell of a lot of more tracks but DR 2.0 has more cars throughout history. At first I didn't like the latest WRC games but I got used to them and now like to play them more than DR 2.0. Unless I want to Play in VR than its DR 2.0 since WRC does not support VR.
It's entirely up to preference. To me, having a good eye vision with bloom/god ray/sun flares turned off seems kinda immersion breaking for taking advantage of being able to see the road clearly.
Dirt quite a bit ahead still but cant they put in a extreme realism mode, Dirt does not give me the same felling of momentum like Richard Burns rally does.
I love both games, WRC 9 and Dirt 2.0!! I wasn't a fan of the previous WRC titles due to the physics, but this one, well... it's owesome! Right now I feel that FFB in WRC 9 is way better, the stages are way better (by miles), the dynamic whether is really good, the physics are also great....trust me guys, the game is really good! It's superb in everything that Dirt 2.0 isn't! On Dirt 2.0 I like the car behaviour on gravel, also the weather effects on the windshield, plus the RWD an manual gears cars, they are great! I give equal value for both games if you ask me! Most of the comments here, they don't even tried WRC 9 and say "DR King"!! They don't know what they are talking about!
Pretty much this. I pulled the trigger and got wrc9. played dr1 and 2 a bunch.. and in Wrc9 the driving model really is on another level 👍👍the tracks are epic..!!!! very happy with my purchase.

They’re both good but in my opinion wrc9 is significantly more accurate in regards to track realism, vehicle handling and response just overall physics which makes it more fun to me but dirt is still good thanks to having a lot more car choices and actually racing on track with other cars is a nice change of pace.
WRC 9: Superior weather FX and nighttime darkness outside car, but seems to have a tad bit washed out colour scheme and poor daytime lighting. Judging by the video it seems that the sense of speed is not quite there yet. Sounds are OK, but they are too refined and almost seems muted. The way the crowd makes different noises and FX (flares, campfires and tents etc) depending on the location is a nice touch though. Dirt Rally 2.0: Superior in overall graphics: lighting, FX(inside cockpit), colours. Nighttime driving from cockpit gives a clear and enjoyable watch with warmer front lights. The sense of speed is way beyond WRC 9 even just by looking at the video. Sounds are spot on making you feel like a rally driver *ehem* IGN 10/10 *ehem* WRC 9 devs, you don't have to be so reserved and stiff in your approach to your game. If you really want to compete with Codemasters and challenge their superiority do as Oliver Solberg and "just have fun!" with the process :-)
Ever since my bro gifted me WRC9 last month, I’ve been playin it every night after work. And I love that WRC9 is difficult. But graphic and sounds in DR looks crisp 👌🏽 I feel if ur after physics, it’s WRC9, graphics/sound then its DR.
Don't know why people are saying wrc has better night lighting, in dirt you can see the rocks, people and sponsor signs casting dynamic shadows when the headlight shines on them, the only thing casting shadows in wrc are the little rock walls and those striped tape things
Wrc has WAAAAAY better driving model physics so it wins if you ask me. Plus it has better stages and wrc cars. Dirt has better sounds and more variety in car content but asphalt physics is what kills the game for me, the car feels like you are driving on ice even with 4wd car with new soft slick tyres.
@@peterbialoncik4427 on gamepad - sure, feels arcade. With steering wheel - WRC9 wins with DR2.0 without a problem. Tire model does the job and grip is everything in rallying. DR2.0 fuck up in that department.
Only downside of DR 2.0 is that we on PS4 dont have the VR support - please make it for us! Finally some great driving skillz here! And one BIG difference between those two is in replays - DRs track-side mode is as excellent as the sound is.
I think if WRC9 had more settings for controller that would pull a lot more players. Along with more car settings and explanations on what does what, cause I swear WRC settings say the opposite of what DR2.0 says for certain things.

I prefer WRC9 for modern R5 and WRC, better forcefeedback, more challenging stages for that cars, they weight something and better codriver. Dirt Rally 2 is my choice for historical cars, especially RWDs are so much better in DR. And the sound of those classical cars is just sooo good.
yes i was waiting for VR 32 years and now i can not afford it.. You need good PC and good VR and it cost 3000 euros. SO sad...IF you have bad pc it will become lag not smooth.

Yeah, no question DR2 has the better sound - I don't know how much processing was done, but there's more audible details and more boosted lower end to give the car's the feeling of more oomph, but not so much as to be ridiculous arcade-y. CM should be proud of the amount of effort they put into the sound and graphics for the game - really important details for any kind of sim racer.
I have both of them and enjoy both but I find dirt 2.0 feels quicker in the sense like better frame rate speed ... might be my imagination but I get a greater sensation of speed
I love both games, but even if the tracks from wrc are very good done, I prefer the realistic tracks from dirt. Alone the Sweden tracks, narrow and bumpy , snow flying away is just another level. I want to drive the wrc cars on theses tracks
Don't know why WRC9 looks more realistic to me and there's something different with the terrain design in WRC9 and the narrow roads which resembles the actual WRC tracks, makes it more realistic to me. DR2 terrains looks more like Dirt 3/4. I think they pretty much re used those maps and terrains in DR2. Sound is better on DR2 though. But look at the night comparison, the reflections on the car looks more realistic in WRC9, the car in the DR2 has some weird reflections on top it that shouldn't have been there. But rain on night looks better on DR2.
I find the physics on the WRC game better made for the most part than it is on Dirt. The Dirt franchise improved very much from their earlier games where the driving gameplay felt quite elastic, as if everything were made of rubber. Dirt 2.0, on the other hand, improved a lot but still doesn't have that realistic feel to me. WRC have some bugs on its physics and sometimes the car can make movements quite unrealistic, to the point as if the game was still not finished, as if it was a game still in beta. But despite the problems, I think they still get closer to what driving in such conditions would be, with the driving physics (in general) being better in the WRC games. This is my opinion, of course. Another problem to me is that Dirt also feels very fast paced. In Rally videos we see that the pace isn't that fast. For the graphics and terrain, I think they look much more beautiful, believable and realistic on the Dirt game. WRC again feels like they didn't have all the care to make the parts, forests and everything else with the detail they deserved, so it also feels unfinished to me. On the other hand, I appreciate very much some effects they made in WRC, like being blinded by the sunset, how the rain covers the windscreen and also the night conditions. Those effects are better made there despite having worse graphics, so WRC feels harder and it is much more difficult to see the road ahead and get a picture of what's in front of you than it is on Dirt. Meanwhile, sound effects on Dirt are just absolutely superior to the WRC. No comparison. WRC loses on every aspect on this regard. Two great games, though.
@@pdrombs on the other hand, when you make a regular turn, the car goes off not even close to the terrain under it on Dirt. Gravity works as if the car was in the moon, no weight whatsoever. And in any case, hairpins are much less common than regular turns in both games..

Awesome video! Both games look incredibly good, and I notice DR 2.0 has a bit more saturation and vibrant colors. DR 2.0 definitely wins in the sound category but both game's environments look amazing.

This comparison has just made me 100% sure about what i was thinking. Dirt Rally is just superior to WRC in everything... The movements of the car in WRC feels like the car is moving in slow motion, plus the soud of the car i just terrible...

As it seems that the sounds are the big difference, is there a modding community for wrc like Assetto corsa? I’m a noob so don’t know. I’m trying to decide which I’d like to get out of these two titles. I’m addicted to AC and ACC both and want to rally as well.
Problem with WRC 9 is there are no sounds beside engine sound. Like, sliding tires in contact with gravel make such a noise, but you can not hear it at all.

I find racing with dirt 2.0 on my sim rig is so thrilling but maybe lacks the selection of more maps and cars! I would love if the gr yaris was in dirt2.0 and maybe tracks like Mexico too because I know codemasters would do such a good job with them.

Both games are great in their own way. Try playing DiRT for a while then WRC and vice versa, you can appreciate both for what they are.
I personally get alot of enjoyment from playing most of the Rally games over the last 20 years.

I did that and my main takeaway from it was that WRC is crap for what I want in a rally game. The cars feel way too light and the force feedback is unbelievably bad. Dirt Rally 2.0 just seems much more of a rounded game. The force feedback actually gives you good enough information to correct for mistakes and the graphics look brilliant. That’s just my opinion tho. I completely understand that people like both games.
Dirt Rally feels so much better than WRC9 when using a Clubsport V2.5 force feedback wheel. I hope Dirt Rally 3 will have as many great looking locations as WRC9.
wrc9 has really interesting stages.far more difficult to drive in these roads and more realistic co-driver.also the modern 380ps wrc cars.anything else i prefer dirt

I prefer better physics on gravel than on tarmac which is offered by only 2 games yet (dr2, rbr), wrc 9 is far from reality anyway, if you want to simulate tarmac rally, play Assetto Corsa since its most realistic tarmac rally sim

Dirt Rally cockpit view rain/storm is basically as close to real thing as it can get. WRC no comparison there. The movement of the car, the weather fx and visibility are spot on.

IMO I much prefer WRC9 over DR 2.0 but both are great games or even the Original Dirt Rally which I rate over DR 2.0.
I would buy Dirt Rally not DR 2.0 as it's cheaper plus you can see if you like rally and if you do then buy WRC9 👍

@@magical5181 not the guy you ask, but I also prefer dirt rally 1 over 2.0 but 2.0 has much better lighting and immersion. Also DR1 came out in 2016 so it has good graphics and runs with an average of 120 fps 1080p on my RX580, whereas DR 2.0 runs with an average of 75. This is max settings on both games.
@@magical5181 I would go with Dirt Rally the Original over WRC9 and DR 2.0 plus already said Dirt Rally is easier on the graphics card as DR 2.0 and WRC9 stretch my GTX 2080 to the limit but the immersion is worth it especially with WRC9.
RBR is a great game but Dirt Rally (original) is where I would start and you will have hours and hours of fun trust me 🙂👍

They're about a tit for tat comparison. I think it's impressive how DR2.0 adds in the sound of the chassis squeaks and overall a much better audio presentation. I bought DR2.0 because it went on sale first and it was my birthday. Hayyy 🙌😁. Looks like I did pretty good.

@@ruffyfarmracer9498 Dirt Rally 2.0 but make sure you get the GOTY Version thats the same price as the regular DR 2.0 but it comes with the tracks and cars from Dirt Rally so you dont have to buy the rebuy them as separate DLC which is expensive. Also, get WRC 8 or 9. WRC feels very different but WRC has a hell of a lot of more tracks but DR 2.0 has more cars throughout history. At first I didn't like the latest WRC games but I got used to them and now like to play them more than DR 2.0. Unless I want to Play in VR than its DR 2.0 since WRC does not support VR.

I don't understand why anyone leaves bloom turned on for DR2.0. Looks infinitely better and more realistic once you turn it off.
It's entirely up to preference. To me, having a good eye vision with bloom/god ray/sun flares turned off seems kinda immersion breaking for taking advantage of being able to see the road clearly.
I personally like the bloom on dirt rally, but i get your point maybe ill take of the bloom effect on my future comparisons.
Dirt quite a bit ahead still but cant they put in a extreme realism mode, Dirt does not give me the same felling of momentum like Richard Burns rally does.

I love both games, WRC 9 and Dirt 2.0!! I wasn't a fan of the previous WRC titles due to the physics, but this one, well... it's owesome!
Right now I feel that FFB in WRC 9 is way better, the stages are way better (by miles), the dynamic whether is really good, the physics are also great....trust me guys, the game is really good! It's superb in everything that Dirt 2.0 isn't!
On Dirt 2.0 I like the car behaviour on gravel, also the weather effects on the windshield, plus the RWD an manual gears cars, they are great!
I give equal value for both games if you ask me!

Pretty much this. I pulled the trigger and got wrc9. played dr1 and 2 a bunch.. and in Wrc9 the driving model really is on another level 👍👍the tracks are epic..!!!! very happy with my purchase.

They’re both good but in my opinion wrc9 is significantly more accurate in regards to track realism, vehicle handling and response just overall physics which makes it more fun to me but dirt is still good thanks to having a lot more car choices and actually racing on track with other cars is a nice change of pace.

WRC 9:
Superior weather FX and nighttime darkness outside car, but seems to have a tad bit washed out colour scheme and poor daytime lighting. Judging by the video it seems that the sense of speed is not quite there yet. Sounds are OK, but they are too refined and almost seems muted. The way the crowd makes different noises and FX (flares, campfires and tents etc) depending on the location is a nice touch though.
Dirt Rally 2.0:
Superior in overall graphics: lighting, FX(inside cockpit), colours. Nighttime driving from cockpit gives a clear and enjoyable watch with warmer front lights. The sense of speed is way beyond WRC 9 even just by looking at the video. Sounds are spot on making you feel like a rally driver *ehem* IGN 10/10 *ehem*
WRC 9 devs, you don't have to be so reserved and stiff in your approach to your game. If you really want to compete with Codemasters and challenge their superiority do as Oliver Solberg and "just have fun!" with the process :-)

Ever since my bro gifted me WRC9 last month, I’ve been playin it every night after work. And I love that WRC9 is difficult. But graphic and sounds in DR looks crisp 👌🏽 I feel if ur after physics, it’s WRC9, graphics/sound then its DR.
Don't know why people are saying wrc has better night lighting, in dirt you can see the rocks, people and sponsor signs casting dynamic shadows when the headlight shines on them, the only thing casting shadows in wrc are the little rock walls and those striped tape things

WRC did better with rain and darkness while DiRT honestly surpassed in every other aspect. IMO
Wrc has WAAAAAY better driving model physics so it wins if you ask me. Plus it has better stages and wrc cars. Dirt has better sounds and more variety in car content but asphalt physics is what kills the game for me, the car feels like you are driving on ice even with 4wd car with new soft slick tyres.

Tire model does the job and grip is everything in rallying. DR2.0 fuck up in that department.
Only downside of DR 2.0 is that we on PS4 dont have the VR support - please make it for us! Finally some great driving skillz here!
And one BIG difference between those two is in replays - DRs track-side mode is as excellent as the sound is.

I think if WRC9 had more settings for controller that would pull a lot more players. Along with more car settings and explanations on what does what, cause I swear WRC settings say the opposite of what DR2.0 says for certain things.

Still can’t believe how much better DR2.0 is compared to the WRC games.
I prefer WRC9 for modern R5 and WRC, better forcefeedback, more challenging stages for that cars, they weight something and better codriver.
Dirt Rally 2 is my choice for historical cars, especially RWDs are so much better in DR. And the sound of those classical cars is just sooo good.

The problem is that the WRC does not work in VR. I now only buy racing games if it is in VR. With VR everything changes.
Yeah, no question DR2 has the better sound - I don't know how much processing was done, but there's more audible details and more boosted lower end to give the car's the feeling of more oomph, but not so much as to be ridiculous arcade-y. CM should be proud of the amount of effort they put into the sound and graphics for the game - really important details for any kind of sim racer.
Only good thing about WRC is licensing, wich means better liveries. MIss martini and ford rallye sport :(
I have both of them and enjoy both but I find dirt 2.0 feels quicker in the sense like better frame rate speed ... might be my imagination but I get a greater sensation of speed
I love both games, but even if the tracks from wrc are very good done, I prefer the realistic tracks from dirt. Alone the Sweden tracks, narrow and bumpy , snow flying away is just another level. I want to drive the wrc cars on theses tracks

Don't know why WRC9 looks more realistic to me and there's something different with the terrain design in WRC9 and the narrow roads which resembles the actual WRC tracks, makes it more realistic to me. DR2 terrains looks more like Dirt 3/4. I think they pretty much re used those maps and terrains in DR2. Sound is better on DR2 though. But look at the night comparison, the reflections on the car looks more realistic in WRC9, the car in the DR2 has some weird reflections on top it that shouldn't have been there. But rain on night looks better on DR2.
I find the physics on the WRC game better made for the most part than it is on Dirt. The Dirt franchise improved very much from their earlier games where the driving gameplay felt quite elastic, as if everything were made of rubber. Dirt 2.0, on the other hand, improved a lot but still doesn't have that realistic feel to me. WRC have some bugs on its physics and sometimes the car can make movements quite unrealistic, to the point as if the game was still not finished, as if it was a game still in beta. But despite the problems, I think they still get closer to what driving in such conditions would be, with the driving physics (in general) being better in the WRC games. This is my opinion, of course. Another problem to me is that Dirt also feels very fast paced. In Rally videos we see that the pace isn't that fast.
For the graphics and terrain, I think they look much more beautiful, believable and realistic on the Dirt game. WRC again feels like they didn't have all the care to make the parts, forests and everything else with the detail they deserved, so it also feels unfinished to me. On the other hand, I appreciate very much some effects they made in WRC, like being blinded by the sunset, how the rain covers the windscreen and also the night conditions. Those effects are better made there despite having worse graphics, so WRC feels harder and it is much more difficult to see the road ahead and get a picture of what's in front of you than it is on Dirt.
Meanwhile, sound effects on Dirt are just absolutely superior to the WRC. No comparison. WRC loses on every aspect on this regard.

don't agree, when you hold the handbrake it looks like the car does the turn for you, that doesnt happen in dr2.0
@@pdrombs on the other hand, when you make a regular turn, the car goes off not even close to the terrain under it on Dirt. Gravity works as if the car was in the moon, no weight whatsoever.
And in any case, hairpins are much less common than regular turns in both games..
@@pdrombs I drove a real rally car and what happens when you pull the handbrake in dirt is simply wrong. In that aspect WRC 9 is actually close to real thing.

Awesome video! Both games look incredibly good, and I notice DR 2.0 has a bit more saturation and vibrant colors. DR 2.0 definitely wins in the sound category but both game's environments look amazing.

I love both games but I'd say that dirt rally is a bit better.
It's almost impossible to drive on the asphalt stages with a controller on WRC9 and that's why I prefer Dirt rally.

If wrc 9 was 60 fps i'd buy it in a minute. (ps4)
There is a 60/120 FPS mode now on PS5. It makes a difference but i noticed some stutters at a few points in some of the stages.
I have samsung tv and if i turn on motion plusin settings, the game looks 50-60 fps.
I dont how its possible, but all games are so smooth

Problem with WRC 9 is there are no sounds beside engine sound. Like, sliding tires in contact with gravel make such a noise, but you can not hear it at all.
