Join us as we journey through a rollercoaster of emotions in our latest gaming recap!
Over the past few months, we’ve dived into a multitude of games, experiencing the highs of victory and the lows of defeat. From epic adventures that kept us on the edge of our seats to a few that… well, let’s just say they didn’t quite meet our expectations.
In this video, we’ll be sharing our thoughts on each game we played, highlighting the ones that truly stood out and had us coming back for more. But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows - we’ll also be discussing the games that didn’t quite hit the mark.

I think there's Shovelware on any console so I'm more than others. I like the switch for its portability but it's not a console for everyone which is fine

You guys always have the coolest video ideas! There are countless games I've played only half of, and I still liked them... sometimes there's just way more attractive games on that specific day for me.

See that's something I just can't do. For some reason it just gives me anxiety to have too many half played games. I don't know how people play multiple games at once too. Apparently my attention span is not that good lol 🤣
Dude I love this video, I’d love to see this as a reoccurring series throughout the year. The collection cleansing idea at the end is a great idea as well….. something I should probably do a bit more of lol. I loved State of Emergency as a kid, but it definitely has not aged well at all. It’s over the top fun, but there’s really no point to the game at all, it’s just chaos for the sake of chaos lol.
Definitely going to make this a reoccurring one. We wanted to do it monthly but we play more games some months and less in others.
Yeah I wasn't sure about state of emergency. I get how it was probably a blast of just sheer chaos and fun when you're younger, but the three of us just ran around in the world yelling at each other, "What's the point of this?" I think we've aged out of this one 🤣🤣🤣
I loved Papers, Please! A total masterpiece game.
I've never been able to get into FF2... the grinding drove me crazy.
The only Ys game I played was 7... it wasn't enough to get me into the series. But I've been firing with trying it again.
I was able to 100% Darksiders and Fable 2. I really enjoyed then at the time, but that was a million years ago.
As for the games you quit.... seems like a good decision to me 😂
Papers Please IS a masterpiece. No matter what Scott says since he hasn't played it, he has no opinion 🤣🤣🤣
That being said, I'm not sure I would love the Ys games either so to each their own.
I have since finished Darksiders but that damn big ass spider took me 5 hours to beat.
You definitely don't need to play the terrible games we listed, unless you want to make a video about more terrible games than those are great ones to choose from 🤣

Cosmic Star Heroine and beat on the Switch 2years ago. And I LOVED IT!! I don't what people are talking about not being able to get into it. I also did what you did and looked for out titles. The have a Sailor Moon inspired RPG like this one called "This way Madness Lies" and I cant wait for it.
Damn!!! I missed This Way Madness Lies on limited run. I was able to pick him up Cthulhu saves Christmas though for his birthday. He knows cuz his birthday was 2 days ago so this is not a spoiler 😂
I played through FF2 on the PSP release a number of years back, can attest to Scott saying that it's such a grindfest. Definitely on board with the idea that if you just aren't enjoying a game after sinking some time into it there's no need to feel guilty about putting it down. Sometimes I have to run at a game multiple times before it really pulls me in enough to finish it.. looking at you BioWare, I must have started the first Mass Effect 5 or 6 times before I finally played it all the way through. Most recently I gave up on Kid Icarus: Uprising. Just can't wrap my head around the control scheme in it and I found each level was frustrating me more and more.
There are too many great games out there to play rather than spend time pushing yourself through a game you're not enjoying.
Admittedly, if it's a game that got good reviews, I'll probably give it a bit more time but Jericho was not one of those games 🤣🤣🤣
Don't blame you for giving up on Kid Icarus uprising. Terrible controls would have me out too!
I recently did a small purge of a few systems by doing the same thing. Pop them in and give them a play. If it wasn’t something I was having fun with or engaged with I moved them to the trade pile. I have Jericho on my backlog. I like a good FPS myself though so maybe I will enjoy it. 🤷♂️ YII’s Origins looks magnificent!
It's something we're going to keep doing because the idea that games are going to sit on our shelves and never get played is the exact opposite of why we start a game collecting.
Good luck with Jericho, I went into it with a very open mind assuming I was going to like it and really really didn't. But then again like you said you like first person shooters and I prefer a third person view for sure.
Nice list of games! Papers Please is awesome and I need to play it again since you gave me some tips in your review video! I also have Cosmic Star Heroines but it's digital and since I can't see the game on my shelves, I forgot about it lol! Will definitely need to play it! A full review of it sounds awesome and I can't wait to watch it! I'm a Clive Barkers book fan but that game was terrible! So I can't blame you for abandoning it! I always try to look up tips and tricks to get the best experience out of a game before I start it. Food and heat every second day make a big difference. I had enough money at the end of the game to make lots of mistakes.
That's the problem with digital games right there lol. I know I have more than a few and I couldn't tell you which ones they are off the top of my head. I bought a game on steam almost a year and a half ago and still haven't played it. I have no mouth, and I must scream. Much like the Clive Barker books. I want to read that one too before I play the game.

I played Darkstalkers back when the 360 was still current and I THINK I liked it? I remember enjoying Mark Hamill and the shop keeper guy, but I also remember thinking it was too long and tonally inconsistent. Curious to hear what Jenn thinks of it afterwards.
TMNT Battle Nexus is I think a forbidden game on Captain Algebra’s channel 😂
Lol I played Darksiders not darkstalkers 😂😂😂 It's my east coast Canadian accent. But now I kind of want to play darkstalkers.
Yes, Captain Algebra has voiced his disdain for that game. He played through it on a live stream 😂

I love the Darksiders series. You guys should try Darksiders genesis it 2 player coop. I think Mary would enjoy gauntlet. That papers please game sounds very interesting. Lol now I think I know what Mary is thinking when I am talking about a game.

I have always loved RPG's and I am the type of person if I start a game I finish it, but the time commitment is just so great. I am in the middle of persona 3 reload right now and I will finish it as im like 80% done but it is such a long game. I could beat like 3 games in the span of time I will have played this one game. I may need to change and start playing rpgs until I get what I wanted out of them and just watch a montage of the ending of the last like 20 hours lol.

A good 15-20 hour experience is the sweet spot! Even better sometimes if it's 8 to 12 hours lol 🤣🤣
Last of Us, I gave up, starts me off in a city I’ve lived in 20 years but I don’t know where my own apartment is, game is escort mission which I hate, Hey let’s go to Bob’s for gun deal, who’s? Bob or whatever his name was, where am I going, how come I don’t know what’s going on? I’m a lone wolf, I want to be alone in a game, me against the world like real life.
Oh dude!! You're missing out on such a great game. I get it though, If it's just not jiving with you then definitely move on. As much as I'd love to tell you to push through you have to play what you enjoy no matter what. That's why they make so many different kinds of games and genres. Would be boring if we all enjoyed the same thing.

I was worried I wasn't going to finish Darksiders because of one boss but I plugged in about 5 hours at it ripping out all my hair and I got past it.
Yeah I'm not sure papers please is going to come down and price but you never know you might get lucky and be able to pick it up for pretty cheap. It's worth the experience
Wow on Fable 2 I had 5 husbands and 5 wives and ended up sacrificing them all to that Cult.

Great stuff, Jen and Scott! I think you both are right, why keep games you don't intend on playing? I'm not an RPG guy so I probably never play those RPG games. Lol man, that State of Emergency game was such a let down when I first got it back in the day. Sucks about Jericho. I bought that but haven't heard too many good things about it.
It's crazy cuz it's still hard to get rid of games even if we're never going to play them. I think I have the memories attached to hunting for them to begin with and then also this feeling that what if they go up in value and we could have passed that down to our son and then he could sell it if he wanted to.
As for Jericho, that consensus seems to be unanimous that it's not a great game. Who knows though maybe you'll have a better time with it.

I have to be harsh to Scott to keep him in line but don't worry, then I buy him RPGs and 60-80 hours pass and then he forgets that I was mean to him. It's a process.

I tried a demo i think back in the days and it was disappointing which sucked cause Clive Barker is one of the best horror writers ever! Or you know i haven't actually read his stuff but movie versions have been great.

All of the games on that switch cart were pretty fun. $40 for three games I couldn't go wrong.
Hot take, not the biggest final fantasy fan.... At least the older ones. The remake of 7 is amazing and I'll be excited to get into rebirth after I finish the games Scott is making me fly this year.
Yeah I really wanted Clive Barker's Jericho to be better too. I am not disappointed. It is in the trade pile though. Terrible game!

I gave up on the Famicom Final Fantasy II back in the day. It was such a grind! I waited forever for it to get translated. It finally released and I was sooo disappointed. I'll have to try the Pixel Remaster version.
The pixel remaster really makes it at least tolerable because it's four times to speed. So grinding to get where you need to get is a lot faster. I'd say if you do decide to try it again, that's the best option.
While I've heard good things about Papers Please, I've been told to avoid it due to how work-like it can feel (something I try to avoid in games; I work enough in real life). FINALLY got my copy of FF:PR and I hope I can carve out time to get into some classics. I think Sega Head was fiddling around with an Ys game, but I can't recall if it was Origins or not.
I've long been curious about the Fable series but have yet to dive into any of them.
Longtime fan of the Gauntlet games, so I'd be down to give this one a go.
Don't worry Tom Scott feels the exact same way you do about Papers Please he doesn't want more work when he's just trying to enjoy a game.
I probably would have gotten around to fable at some point, but the fact that Sam loved it so much kind of propelled it forward. Very happy I played it.

Cool game pic's ,and Scott every guy would buy that A.I game if it got us off, lol some of these game's look fun to play, but I don't own a switch, or an X box, or any x box consoles. That Gauntlet game looks awesome, I love the Gauntlet game's, this one looks interesting, and if it is a remake of the original game I used to play back in the day,I would hope to play a physical copy, as I'm old school and prefer physical copies to digital

We're old school too and would prefer a physical copy but when it's $6.... We'll make the exception. Now if it comes at physical will definitely be picking it up.

Hey guys, why don’t you play any online multiplayer? The older I get the more online just feels like a waste of time.
We love multiplayer games but it's so much more fun to play couch co-op, at least for us. If I get mad at someone while we're playing, I like to be able to know I can tell them off in person 🤣🤣🤣
FFII is probably my least favourite of the first 6, and the new Gauntlet is on my radar, just as soon as I can get some friends to play with me 😭🤣 Editor Scott, nice 👍

Scott gave up on persona before he even started it. There's something about the trailers for the games that is not hooking him. Are we wrong? Inquiring minds want to know if we need to be more open-minded on this one?
@RetroRivals I rate Persona 4 and 5 very highly. The combat, art style, and music are top tier 👌 Some people are put off by the diary game progression, but for me, it really grabbed me. It makes you think about every decision. And the people who are put off because of the fact you play as high school students, well, it might have been 35 years ago, but bloody well was a high school student, and I was happy to role play that particular era of my life, but in a much cooler way 🤣
P5 Tactica, feels like a phoned in Mobile game, though. I'm really not getting absorbed by it 🤷♂️

Papers, Please actually sounds kind of interesting. It has to be better than a shitty RPG (sorry Scott). Darksiders is great! I really need to get to the second game in the series. I played so much Fable 2 in college! Did you end up being good or evil? I'm glad you gave up on Battle Nexus. That game sucks! I beat it on stream but that games pissed me off so much. At least you can unlock the original TMNT arcade game. I haven't tried the 3rd one yet, maybe this year.

It is nice to hear that it is ok to look at a game and thing... this is just not worth my time.
It's something I've had to really make peace with. I feel like if I start something I have to see it all the way through in games and in everyday life situations.
It's actually very freeing and cathartic to say this is not for me and move on passed a game and be happy about it.
For anyone that says "Canadians don't have an accent", please listen to her and report back to me....... It's like all the maritime accents got rolled into one and I can't stop listening to it.
I even notice how thick my accent can be when we watch our own videos back 🤣🤣😂

Well with that being said I'm definitely happy I quit it! I typically will play a game even if it sucks. I was wondering if I gave up too early so I'm happy to hear many people in the comments agree.
