Beautiful work as always, Larry! I am the lead tech at StickyNoMore. We absolutely love what we do & you have been a huge inspiration to us to always do better. Thanks big time for the shoutout! Can’t wait to watch your work for years to come.
The moment Larry pulled out the white board and did some explanation, it showed how enthusiastic and knowledgeable he is about detailing. Massive respect.
In 2005 I was driving up the Pacific Coast Highway on my BMW R100S motorcycle when I pulled up to a red light in Malibu with a light blue 355 next to me. Light turned green, the driver let it rip, and I followed suit. For about 10 minutes we flew down the most incredible road in the country, switching leads, just enjoying the ride. When we finally got to a stoplight in Oxnard, he leaned over and said ‘thanks for being able to keep up’. Like he was searching for a match. I’ll never forget it.
Hi, I'm from the UK. Window etching did become a thing because of car theft, but not of the windows. In the UK and Europe, a car has a registation number plate for life. If all the windows were etched with the registration, stealing it and just putting false plates on was not possible. However, I never saw etching that large.
Also from the UK, and +1 for this. W is the year 2000 though, so if they stopped making the 355 in 1999 then this example was either late registered as new, or imported to the UK from mainland Europe in 2000. If there is another etched number, it would be interesting to see what it was. I assume the service history will tell all.
Hard to believe the owner thinks it's for theftprotection of the windows themselves, but one shouldn't be surprised. This F355 was brought over from Europe and repainted, the owner claims the number is somehow part of the VIN. I wonder what happens if you run "AAU 87W" through Europols stolen veihicle database .
Thank you for the shout out and link. It’s important to note that cleaning parts doesn’t provide a good finish and often will result in loss of graphics. At Sticky RX, we do not clean any parts. We full strip them to bare metal or plastic and fully refinish with hard touch coating and laser etch all graphics. We use the best automotive interior coatings on the market and not generic materials.
My favorite part of the detail, other than the finished product, is the initial vacuum, it's almost a milestone and lets you see what really needs to be done to the interior of the vehicle without all the crazy distractions. I don't like inside windows but I'm a window freak who's always trying to perfect the craft of the "fishbowl effect" in every car I touch. It's going well lol. Great video, love the Ferrari!
completely agree with you, Larry, on the 355. I've been priviledged to own but one Ferrari and it was a 355 Berlinetta/6-speed. The styling is flawless and a 3.5L engine with a flat plane crankshaft, 5 valves per cylinder, titanium connecting rods make music (when a Capistro exhaust is attached) that is not unlike that of period F1 cars...especially at the 9,000 rpm redline! The every 3-years or 15,000 mile cam belt/water pump/tensioner change necessitated a motor drop and accompanying huge bill that did me in after 5 years of ownership.
355 is the greatest sounding and one of the greatest driving cars of all time. The engine is a true masterpiece with its 5 valve head, titanium connecting rods, titanium valves, dry sump and on. This engine and the F50 engine share much in their design and remain the only street cars to run a 5 valve design. 355 also had the record for specific power output at the time at 108hp/liter beating even the McLaren F1. The 355 will go down as an all time great Ferrari and they are even better in person than video. So special
My favourite part of detailing is also vacuuming! My least favourite is troubleshooting my underwhelming compound/polishing results after already spending hours doing prep and paint decon. Your videos are helping me learn how to improve this 😊 thanks Larry
I really appreciate the quality of your videos, and your work. As an older guy, I'd like to offer one simple suggestion: Put your tire cleaning apparatus on a table so you can clean wheels while standing.
This video is very ordered and yet interesting. We see not only what you are doing but the why and the cure to problems that others have encountered for years. Thank you and your team for the hard work and dedication to your ever expanding craft that gives us the answers for questions from long ago.
There is something so satisfying in seeinga a man do what he loves for a living and beeing so succesfull at it. I love your videos, they are not just fun to watch but are also super motivational. They remind me that if I keep doing what I am passionate about I can achieve a lot, and most importantly, be happy. Thanks for the isnpiration and the entertainment, keep it up❤️
As a detailer my favorite part of cleaning is when I do a buff or a polish on faded paint as it makes a really big difference or doing a headlight restoration. My least favorite is cleaning the interior as I had to clean some pretty grimy stuff that took forever and with a lot of elbow grease. But yeah i love exterior detailing, not too big on interior detailiing.
As an Accord enthusiast, I appreciate the jab at the end of the video. Accords have Jack Sparrow enrgy: "But you have heard of me." Also: Least favorite part of detailing: floor mats because I know they're just going to get absolutely wrecked again in short order. Most favorite part of detailing: glass, because when i get it just right my experience seeing out od my vehicle is *chef's kiss*
Another great detail Larry & when the wipeboard came out I knew we were going to get Larry's masterclass in-depth thank you great job for me engine bay& interior
Beautiful detail. I love watching your channel. Get to see cars ill probably never see in real life but you don't cut corners and do the job right. So many channels on here do very rushed jobs and miss a lot of detail.
Great video Larry, as always! Paint enhancement is my favorite part of detailing, but I also love cleaning engines and wheels:) As a side note, Larry please stop introducing new products…my wife is going to kill me….lol.
I would be willing to bet that vehicle spent time in Venezuela under previous ownership. The window etching matches 90s number plate nomenclature, and we did etching so large because when they stole vehicles, they covered small etchings with stickers. The etchings were made to identify vehicles with VINs and numberplates to avoid vehicle theft, not parting them put. People would, in fact, do full door or roof VIN number decals (20" long) and spray clear coat over them just to avoid their vehicles being stolen
Think the window etchings are from it's time in the UK. It was a popular security measure in the 80's & 90's to etch the car registration number onto every piece of glass.
This is one of my favourite videos you have done of a special Ferrari. What an unreal detail and polish job you did👍🏻😎❤️ The F355 is the only Ferrari I have ever actually gotten a ride in from a patient. It was red with tan leather inside and nowhere near as clean as this yellow beauty inside and out. I remember that V8 sound and how hard it pulled off the line…push you back in your seat kinda power.
My Mates think I'm mad, but my favourite part of washing my car is the under body. I'm not super mechanically minded, but am teaching myself a few things and learning new things, then seeing it under my car knowing what it now does, is an oddly satisfying feeling.
The best glass cleaner I've ever used on a car is technically for stained glass work. I do a lot of stained glass and also love detailing cars. The stuff I use is called "Clarity Stained Glass Finishing Compound". I've used it for years. I do an initial clean with iso alcohol, (if really dirty/buggy) then go over it with the Clarity. It dries to a haze, then you just wipe it off with a micro-fiber towel. No streaks, ever! Highly recommend giving it a try. Maybe other brands of finishing compound are just as good, that's just the one I've used. Love the videos, Larry. Looking forward to the day when you can work on an old C4 corvette.
Love the 355 but I so miss my F430 Spider. I have had a 488 Spider and Portofino M since, but back on the hunt for a super low mileage and flawless version of a F430 Spider. I am anxious to see the video on the F430 Spider...
The 355 was the first sportscar i had on a poster as a kid in the 90's, and it'll always hold a special place in my heart. All though im more of an American muscle car type of guy, the 90's Euro sports/super/hyper cars will always be special because i grew up with them. Most favorite places to clean a car/favorite process is always applying any kind of coating, be it ceramic/graphene, spray sealants or waxes. Seing the paintwork in all of its shiny glory after polishing and working on it and pulling the car out in the sun... Just makes me smile every time. Least favorite: Front windscreen on the interior side. It's just the worst. Super satisfying when it's done, but the entire process is just.... 🥱
My favorite part of cleaning is vacuuming or exterior cleaning. It's always so satisfying to get all the dirt and grim off and out. And yes, glass is the worst. I'm poor, so I can't really afford expensive products, nor are they worth really using on a daily/beater that is my 2017 Ford escape. It stays clean for a construction workers vehicle, tho!
In the UK you had the number plate etched onto the windows, insurance companies figured that the number plate itself was easy to replace if the car was stolen but replacing all the windows to get rid of the etching was a time consuming and expensive, therefore deterring thieves.
My very first professional detail was a disastrous "sticky dash" situation. Everything from A-pillar covers to entire dash, steering wheel, center console and door cards was covered in this mess. I did a ton of research and everything failed miserably until I tried IPA and steam. It did come at a cost though as some of the dye on the plastic was removed in the process. But this was a highly neglected barn find and we all knew it was going to happen.
Also my favorite Ferrari!! The sexy curves of the 458 Italia is number 2. The sound of the engine is without a doubt the best of a factory stock car PERIOD! Maybe some day I will get a chance to experience driving one
15:46 - cleaning my wheels is the best. My truck is all black and the wheels start to get a faded brown look when they get dirty. Once they're clean again they are a shiny black and Ammo Mud is the best looking tire shine I've used.
I personally LOVE to clean glass, from going from foggy, not cleaned, to crystal clear. Absolutely love it, I HATE carpets, especially scrubbing them, the sound is like nails on a chalkboard for me
I had the pleasure to be ripping one of these down the highway. Beautiful car. The owner said he was having issues with the gated shifter. I told him he needed to drive it harder. LOL
I think the best ones ever are the F12 and 458. Larry, I love the way you make it sound everything negative into a positive. The reason the Ferrari and a couple German manufacturers were doing this was to cut cost. It had nothing to do with feel, lower end cars, and user experience. Lets not mice words here. If by lower end cars you mean Honda and Toyotas of the same vintage,, their quality in electronics, buttons, gauges will blow the Ferraris out the door.
The 355 is definitely one of my favorite Ferrari's alongside the 550 Maranello. If I ever win in a lottery and decide to spend big money on a car, it will be difficult decision between Diablo, 355, 550 and 205 T16.
Least favorite part of detailing-door jambs and trunk jambs. Or muddy sunroof mechanisms. Messy, tedious, just feels like a chore. Nice work as always Larry (and Brodie)!
I have a love hate relationship with wheels. I’d have to agree, glass is the worst but i think detailing floor matts/pedal box is my favorite. Engine bay is right up there with my favorites as well
The window etching should match the number (licence) plate. If a car was checked and the two did not match the car might be stolen. Unusual to have a different number etched on though - possibly VIN? - and it was never usually that big so probably aftermarket on that Ferrari. Great looking car!
I dig your opinion of the 355, cool you like older Ferrari. My fav is the 348 TS red w tan, just love those side rakes......love newer Ferrari also but if I started with one it would be a 348.
Glass etching is a massive theft detterent. The cost to replace all that glass is high enough that many thieves would completely avoid stealing the vehicle.
Yeah, I didn't feel Dominic explained it very well. It's not about the glass being stolen. I think one of the etchings matched a UK numberplate style. It stops the plates being swapped after theft and the car being noticed with a missmatch
Correct. Ordering a full set of windows for a car is easy to trace, and expensive. So the thieves would have to order them piece by piece over months of time to avoid suspicion, but then they'd have to store a stolen car for that time. So the cost plus the traceability plus the risks involved, makes it a good deterrent. But yes, it's ugly, but also, it's very easy to check by police if the etching is off from the license plate.
Long time watcher of your content and I love it as I take away tips and tricks for my detailing here in Adelaide, South Australia.😊 Something I noticed.. You torqued the wheel nuts while the vehicle was on the ground. You should have the vehicle off the ground to torque the nuts as there is no vehicle weight applied allowing you to correctly apply tension. Your handbrake will hold the rear but the footbrake must be applied for the front wheels. Not criticising just mentioning for safety.👍
You can't do much once the 'halo' starts to show. You end up chasing it away and its just gets worse and worse. Its a no lose situation that only a repaint of the panel can fix. Good job finding it Larry.
25:36 not useless. Cars were stolen for parts. Everybody were marking them like this all parts in 90' because of insurance. Even my old Opel Corsa 1993 got those "insurance" tattoos. All parts which could be stolen have marks like that - tattoos :) what a gr8 part of history :) In Germany they use to tell "go travel visit Poland, your car is already there" ;) The same as we were telling that All cars stolen in Poland are already in Russia now ;) it's been 30 years, a lot changed - but even now those "tattoos" are visible on a European cars :) Greeting from Poland !
Larry, You can use a Rhopoint Optimap to see the surface or a DOI to measure it, you should contact them and maybe perform a Demo. Those are great instruments like Elcometer.
That plate is an old Venezuelan plate. Three letter digits at the beginning, two numbers and a letter at the end. Here we have this culture of etching the windows because car theft has always been a major crime. Maybe it's just my speculation about the license plate but the similarity resonates a lot with me, also because few people in Europe do that to a Ferrari.
Beautiful work as always, Larry! I am the lead tech at StickyNoMore. We absolutely love what we do & you have been a huge inspiration to us to always do better. Thanks big time for the shoutout! Can’t wait to watch your work for years to come.
Rob/StickyNoMore did the switch gear on my 355 and the work was flawless.
The moment Larry pulled out the white board and did some explanation, it showed how enthusiastic and knowledgeable he is about detailing. Massive respect.
That's true
Absolutely True

355 was perfection. Understated beauty.
My favorite Ferrari as a kid! Loved the look and sound of this car. Beautiful work!

This is absolutely one of my favorite cars. You brought it to a new level. Nice work.
I love a lot of your videos. The ones with the uniques cars is the best. I really love the barn find specialty car finds and detailing videos.
That etching was the number plate of the car at that moment, probably the rear glass was replaced that's why it has a different number

The way Dominic talks about the cars and knows about the cars ... He deserves every single one of them.
You’re riding too hard
Beautiful detail. I love watching your channel. Get to see cars ill probably never see in real life but you don't cut corners and do the job right. So many channels on here do very rushed jobs and miss a lot of detail.
That is my dream Ferrari. Perfect color, targa top, and the best sounding small displacement V8 ever made. Can’t wait to own one some day.
What a beautiful car!!! I love watching the cars get cleaned! Keep up the amazing work!!!
Dear Lord, what a beauty!!!
I do love the 355 its classic Ferrari styling, however, the 360 was the pinnacle of Ferrari designs. My favorite ferrari to date.
the attention on the paint is amazing, i didn't know about those "orange" effect. the sound of the engine is incredible i love it
Best Ferrari ever - Reminds me the famous car chase from the 1995 James Bond movie Goldeneye.
Great video Larry, as always! Paint enhancement is my favorite part of detailing, but I also love cleaning engines and wheels:)
As a side note, Larry please stop introducing new products…my wife is going to kill me….lol.

Nice work, really clean example. I had die back on an Alfa where there was a small amount of filler on a panel, I just left it and lived with it.

Long time watcher of your content and I love it as I take away tips and tricks for my detailing here in Adelaide, South Australia.😊
Something I noticed..
Larry, You should do a video on cleaning hockey gear both player and goalie gear.
All parts which could be stolen have marks like that - tattoos :) what a gr8 part of history :) In Germany they use to tell "go travel visit Poland, your car is already there" ;) The same as we were telling that All cars stolen in Poland are already in Russia now ;) it's been 30 years, a lot changed - but even now those "tattoos" are visible on a European cars :)
Greeting from Poland !
The 355 looks amazing, Larry. My least favourite part of a detail is cleaning the glass as well, and favourite part is applying a wax.
im exactly like you man, i love vacuuming and hate glass!
Larry, You can use a Rhopoint Optimap to see the surface or a DOI to measure it, you should contact them and maybe perform a Demo. Those are great instruments like Elcometer.
Sticky buttons is also common issue on MB W210. Dads 2002 E430 has ruined sticky buttons on the steering wheel.
We gotta see the daily shoe care routine! Interested to see a car detailers take on it.
Love asking the future father in law to marry his daughter!! Great story…apparently dad liked the ride! 😎. Thank you for the personal touch
