Great vid! I lived in Waldport and loved Winter Herring jigging in Newport. Herring is a great fish to fry up just like trout. The bones fall from the flesh easily after there cooked. I would make pickled Rollmops with slices of onion and jalapeno. Unbelievably delicious and under appreciated fish in our country, but if you know, you know!

I’m not sure if the crabbing is any good anymore but part of me wants to get back out and do some crabbing and then use the fishfinder and look for schools of herring
@@AutomagicAdventures I have never crabed there. We dug clams right below the bridge.. and did use the boat to jig for herring.
The marina behind the brewery is another good spot to catch herring

I didn't know that Pier was over their on the south side. I normally just visit old town Newport. That Thai Food place looks Yummy and next to a Premier Herring Fishing Spot to boot! LOL! Thanks for the video! Automagic Baby!

A lot of people try the entrance to the South Beach Marina, by walking out on those rocks, usually when you find the seagulls and the sea lions, you found the herring

Wow are they running this late in the year? Thought they normally ran in early February
I think hearing is pretty close to being over now. Last week when I went, I was probably catching the very tail end of it.
You were so close to where they all were!!! Check out the video I posted, they were spawning on the rocks in the marina
