    Ive made quite a few and here are my added suggestions - always start with cool water and add the gelatin to the water by sprinkling it into the water - not the other way around or you will have granules sticking to your container. A fork works just as well as a whisk so don’t sweat that. I added 10 tea tree oil drops and microwaved four times at 45 seconds each. I had a very clear solution with no bubbles at all. Walmart also has great value gelatin for half the price of Knox and its great.

    I used your recipe and added 10 drops of tea tree oil because it smells good and is antibacterial and antimicrobial, added bonus of no mold. It worked great. Have been using it so much for 8 months. Thanks for the hands on tutorial!

      Thanks I am glad to know that works. I love tea tree oil and I made a geli plate previously and it went mouldy even though it was kept clean, it got air and moisture in the fridge

    Thanks for the tut! I just made a huge 17”x15” - I doubled your first recipe & used 16 packets of gelatin. I don’t own a microwave anymore so I heated it over a pan of simmering water- worked like a champ. It’s in the oven (off!) safest place for it! Can’t wait to try it out. Thanks again

    Gelli plates have been around for over 100 years. I made them 30 years ago. All they are is a Hectograph. And they can be used with hectogrpah pencils, as they were used in schools and offices back in the 1930s and 1940s for printing instruction sheets, or art patterns. The hectograph was invented in 1869 and can produce up to 100 copies on plain paper. It is not a new idea. They can be made without the alchol. But they won't last as long. You can extend the life by adding 1/8th teaspoon of pure
    Tee Tree oil.

  • @RD9_Designs
    @RD9_Designs 4 ปีที่แล้ว +36

    To all the confused people, the final recipe is 1.5 cups water, 8 packs of gelatin, 3/4 cup glycerin, 3/4 cup alcohol. Double or triple as necessary. Whisk, nuke, whisk, nuke until clear, pour into mold, let sit for 8 to 10 hours... in the comments, she also says that the alcohol isn't necessary, so you can sub water instead... another comment suggests adding several drops of tea tree oil to deter mold or bacteria growth.
    I'm really not sure what was so confusing 🤔

    • @RD9_Designs
      @RD9_Designs 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@frenca2020 It may depend on the brand. Compare brands and go with the highest content.... I was actually thinking of adding extra packets to make it not so rubbery and bendy... has anyone tried this?

    Thank you so much, I just made one. It has a lot of texture on that side you don’t use, but the other side is perfect, I suppose it's because I've kept it in the oven while it's hot so the fumes may have ruined one side.
    I have never used a gelli plate, but the things I see made with them are so great, that I wanted one, but could’nt afford it, so thanks to you, I now have one, thank you so much 😊 I’m looking forward to see the video, where you use it (which I will do right now) 😃

    I followed your recipe (4 months ago) and made 2 smaller plates, 1 10" round and 1 5x7, and have used the heck out of them without any problems at all. I did have to melt and re-mold 1 time but only because I got water on the plate and didn't realize it so it weakened that section. I'm making myself a big one today! Gelli printing is so addicting! Thank you so much for sharing your process so I didn't have to try to figure it out on my own.

    I just wanted to tell you I have gelli plates in every size except the great big one and I just didn't want to pay that much money for it. I made mine in a jelly roll pan and I love it more than the bought ones. If you want different size ones just make a big one and cut to what size you want that will save you a lot of money. I all so found little round pans of Wilton cake pans and made small round ones. I all so found glycerin at a local health food store and it is a big bottle for I think maybe 10.00 might have been less but I can get at least 2 out of a bottle and some left over. you might want to try that. I didn't put alcohol in mine and I have had it for over a yr with no problem with mold so you can leave that out and use that much hot water. Great tutorial thank you for sharing a lot of new people will enjoy seeing you make one.

      +Nancy Vastine Thanks! The gelatinI bought was about 10 bucks and i can get a few plates out of it as well luckily. Mine is still good, although ive been sick lately and havent used it, but its still good :)

    Perfect recipe, we love PERFECT! I watched a couple of other different video recipes and techniques; yours has a few extra micro wave steps but it's worth it. Mine is the 9" X 12" size, I used an acrylic box photo frame as the mold. It set up in about three hours and came out like glass. I found that if I sprayed the top with alcohol just after pouring into the mold, the bubbles disappear. Being able to melt it down to reuse is very economical, don't know that you can do that with the commercial ones. Great job on explaining how and why you did it your way.

      @PinkPoodleCrafts  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Nikki Miller Thanks!! And thanks for the tip with the alcohol!! Brilliant! I am glad you made a successful plate!! Enjoy!! And no, you cant melt down the store bought kinds but they are a bit more sturdy and wouldnt need it likely however u will find that the homemade gelli plate is quite sturdy and will last quite a while (like months) before you might have to remelt it down.

      Pink Poodle Crafts Hi. Thanks so much for all of this. Just wondering if we could not add a few extra packs of gelatine to make it a little more sturdy. And also, if you’ve heard of people using the vegan version gelatine to do this? And finally, could I ask you for the whole recipe if I were to make it all at once please...I’m a little mixed up...Sorry. And thanks so much.

      @@chrystinelacaille9884 I was wondering the same thing about adding extra gelatin... just double her recipe for the total amount she used, or, add everything she said twice.

    I'm looking forward to trying one. Another video said to use a geli
    plate to apply acrylic gel medium to create a fixative for pan pastels.
    So this will hlep with that. I'm not sure I want it so thick though. how thin was it with the one batch? I'm thinking 3/4 inch thick would be better for me or even 1/2 inch.

    Thank you very much for sharing how to make the gelli plate. I would like to know how much are the gelatin envelopes, I write to you from Uruguay, the gelatine comes in two presentations of different quantities. Also, are there problems if I put too much jelly? Again thank you very much.

    Hi Stacy, I don't know if you will get notified of my post but I'm Hoping you do ... Love this Video & How well you Explain things. I have a couple of ?s for you ...
    1. Did you keep your Gelli Pad the size in this video or did you end up cutting it down? (Cuz I like ur suggestion of being able to do whole sheets of paper)
    2. What size is the Plexiglass sheet you have it on? How thick is it? (I'm asking cuz I'm disabled & can't get to Menards to buy a sheet of it, so a friend is going but I have to let him know measurements. 😉😊
    Thank You Stacy!! So Glad I found your channel. Love the Live Shows you do. 😉🤗😊

    • @PinkPoodleCrafts
      @PinkPoodleCrafts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I left the geli plate that size. The plexi glass is very thin, dont know the exact thickness but prob 5mm thick at best. As far as size, prob 12x18? maybe? but you will want to make it whatever size your gelli plate is with an inch of leeway around it. :)
