    Thanks for a great video and for taking the time to show how clear Gesso works rather than just posting the recipe. So much more useful. You have a great personality and humour, a lady after my own heart. Xx

    Thank you for this awesome tutorial . I live on an island called Rhodes, it is in Greece . You can imagine how hard it is for me to get stuff for my junk journals. So this is so fantastic. I am very happy that I can make gesso myself. You are amazing!!!!! Kisses from Greece.

    Thanks for this informative presentation! Btw both chalk and talc are white calcium carbonate. Chalk "dust" is used for marking athletic fields and is super cheap in bulk.

    How to make Elmer's glue at home"
    The same glue that is used in school. I found the recipe online.
    Pour 3/4 cup of water in a saucepan over medium heat.
    Add 1/4 cup cornstarch, 2 tablespoons light corn syrup and 1 teaspoon white vinegar.
    Whisk the ingredients together until they're blended well.
    Stir the mixture constantly until it thickens.

    • @PinkPoodleCrafts
      @PinkPoodleCrafts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      while I agree you can make glue that way, it is not elmers glue. Elmers glue is made with polymers :) Youre just making a basic homemade glue... or a faux white glue :) I dont know how it would hold up in a homemade gesso recipe because you need the polymers from the elmers glue :) But thank you for the homemade glue recipe :)

    How generous of you to share your time and expertise with us. I love all things DIY, and wondered if I could use gesso with fabric, but I found the answer in the comments. I'll be trying it with portraits. I've made one with middling results but am gathering as much info as possible for my next attempt. I live in Oshawa so we are not that far apart. I am subscribing to your channel because you are the cat's meow.

    • @PinkPoodleCrafts
      @PinkPoodleCrafts  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      aww thanks!! And yes you can use it on fabric however you might not be able to wash it like you would regular fabric. I use it on fabric all the time tho, just for mixed media projects...it turns my fabric into like canvas! I have live streams every Monday night at 9:30pm central time and on fridays (sometimes saturdays instead) at 10pm central, here on youtube, hope you can make it sometimes, we have a lot of fun!

    Can i use plaster of Paris as a substitute for marble dust when making this? I'm starting to hate mod podge because of that glossy "matte" finish and there's no tooth to hold color once its dry. It tints but not that bright vibrant color I was going for.

    I am About to try my 1st paint by number kit. I read that I should put a clear gesso finish over the printed canvas before I begin. Any tips other than what I saw on your video? Thank you

    Just wanted to tell you I went looking for recipes for clear gesso and yours is the best. Everyone puts too much water in the mix! Thanks.

    Im so on this! My cart gets clicked tonight. I will not buy Gesso again. I can make small batches in any color I want this way. My first and only jar of clear Gesso was 12.00 on Amazon. I unkowingly bought the most expensive brand! I love your video, and I am sharing it.

    Have seen quite a few DIY's on this, the baby powder can substitute for the calcium carbonate correct?

    hi quick question. in making this. your tostitos jar is a 15oz? I am using a 7 Oz Jar and I cut the recipe in half. but half a cup barely filled a half a jar after I added the other ingredients. I don't want to use too much though do you think it's okay to add the rest of the glue? also a 7 Oz bottle. and double the rest ?

      +torresxrocks yes that should be fine :) the recipe isnt an exact thing so if you are off on some of it, it really wont make much difference. :)

    Hi! Thank you for sharing your recipe! I did a little bit research about calcium carbonate and I found out that it is actually an alkaline and antacid which means it can neutralize something acidic. I think its good because if the glue that we use is a bit acidic then the calcium carbonate can neutralize it. I just dont know how much it needs to make a ph neutral mixture. Good to know right? Haha. I just have a question regarding this homemade gesso, have you tried using this on regular paper around 85-120gsm and does it warp? Im planning to use gesso as primer to regular paper before putting glue on it. Paper usually warps because of glue but someone said (in youtube also) to use gesso to prime the paper so it wont warp. But for this homemade gesso, Im not sure if it will work the same with gesso bought in art stores.

    I can't find Fredrix marble dust anywhere. Are you still able to find it and if so, where? If not, what are you using instead? Thx‼️🥰
