  • Hello and thank you for being here. After watching @SigitaSigitascoffeestains. DIY stamp video she has inspired me to make this video showing you how I made my own faux gelli plate using household items. In one of her recent videos Sigita talks about her desire to make her own gelli plate and because I made my own when I began gelli printing a few years ago, I wanted to share this with her and with you. It is a great gelli plate hack that has worked for me for nearly four years! I hope you enjoy this video and find it helpful. My best to you and thank you so much for being here. Let me know what you think below. Thank you!

      Hi Lilian! Thank you so much for this wonderful hack. I had borrowed a gel plate from a friend and had not really got on with it, so put it away quickly. I got my back and packing material ready this morning and have had so much fun with it! I'm still not sure that I would buy a gel plate as I think that they are very expensive and why would I need to when this hack works so well?

    This is the first time I have come across so many unkind commentary on a creative channel. I live in the depths of Africa and a real Gelli plate is not only outside my budget but also unobtainable. Thank you, Lilian, for this great hack and trouble making the video. For the trolls: if you don"t like the chatting, use the forward button.

      Welcome from Africa! I'm so happy you are here. Thank you so much for your kind words. The negativity is overshadowed by amazing and kind people such as yourself. It also takes just as much effort to be kind...people can do better. I appreciate you being here and hope you give this technique a try. A plastic bag may also work with slightly different results. Thank you again! :)

    A while back I made silly putty from borax and white glue to clean my cars cup holder. I made some more with a little more borax (overactivated it) and used it to make a faux jelly plate! It wasn't quite smooth (tiny bit pitted) but it worked fine and was completely free!

    • @LilianGuerrero
      @LilianGuerrero  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How interesting is that! I'm sure the pitted surface added texture to the prints. :)

  • @00800su

    Thank you so much for your instant cheap effective gel plate! I went big! Bought a cheap yoga mat with no pattern on the surface. Cut it into a huge gel plate size! Covered it with tightly pulled and taped garbage bag, lo and behold... big gel plate! Then I needed acrylic retardant medium so my paint wld remain wet enough for long enough to pull a large print on large sheets of deli paper, tissue paper, A3 130g copy paper... and I used it to make gift wrap, collage fodder, greeting cards, limitless playtime! With stencils, stamps, mainly home made. Raid your recycling bin, pick leaves, feathers (for safety, soak in bleach for hours, then in soapy water, then sun dry), and even these long seal feathers can fit on my super sized gel plate! Thank you once again!

      @@LilianGuerrero I tried it out with fabric paint and sadly it did not really work, might have to do with the paints tho as they are very thin and dry out very fast (I used transparent colours.) The bag I used was also not new and it was a slightly different plastic than most ziploc bags I see, but I might try this again with acrylics and a different bag. The tests I did were on paper as I did not want to use a t-shirt for a first try

    I studied printing making in college probably took 7-8 classes but never came across this. I think gelli plates came out in 2010 many years after I went to art school. There was something about pulling editions after hearing the snapping from rolling the ink during a reduction print or lining up your image perfectly for a monoprint to be run thru the press. I think these methods make it more portable and accessible. I can only imagine my professors shock if I had pulled out a plastic bag

You can pick up the left over bits of color by adding a layer of wet paint over the "gelli" plate and while the paint is fresh, pull a print with your paper and that should help pick up most of the bits which were left over from previous pulls...those bits, however look great on a print.
