In todays' video I replaced all the Spark Plugs in my 5.4 3V motor, the last time I changed plugs I used Champion One Piece Plugs so I knew I wouldn't have any issues with them breaking.
If you are reading this the best method is to use a impact on low setting while the engine is hot. When the 5.4 3v engine is hot, the metal has expanded allowing the spark plug to come out easier. Plus the carbon is softer and less chance break the plug.

HI--i have an '06 F150 5.4 3v Triton. Really a shocker when first changing spark plugs. 7 of 8 broke and 2 would not come out even with the Lisle tool. Rip off shop charged $3000 to fix it. Since then I change the plugs every year about, use Motorcraft, dab on some nickel antiseize. It's that time again and so I still look at tons of videos just to build up the courage to tackle it.
You have a nice video...good camera work. Thanks for putting this out here for us. Jesus bless.

Thank you for showing the startup. Not good when videos show a fix but not the result and a test drive

Whenever I'm looking at buying a vehicle the first thing I look at is how hard or easy the plugs are to get to. If they're buried down deep, I pass on to the next vehicle. That is one reason why I love the LS in my Chevy Tahoe daily driver. Easy-pesy to service. Those are some crazy looking Ford plugs for sure. They should fire that Bastard-Johnny-Engineer who designed those heads! lol

Isn’t that the truth it is a stupid design for sure and I thought the new plugs would have been a one piece design but nope

Engine looks good (clean clean). Some of these videos on TH-cam sure frown that you wash these engines nowadays.

    • @TestDontguess

A person should wash the engine before you do any major work if possible

@@TestDontguess that's right. I wash all my equipment. I guess what I was getting at was TH-cam videos say not too wash these motors with all the electronics and electrical. A lot of corrosion will happen if you wash the engine with pressure washer. I disagree!!

Not to change anything about how you did this but my friend and I just both did our 3v 5.4's mine on orig plugs at 203k my gap was like 1/4 inch it was way huge his was second set of plugs at 160k he did his with the special socket and wrench like you did here and Six of his broke well spun off the threaded part, I gotta say I took the risk and on mine I used a snapon mg31 impact and a normal deep craftsman 9 1/6 and I inserted a piece of 5/16 evap hose which made the plug fit way tighter then the special socket. Call it luck all 8 of mine removed perfect and no thread damage. Also as a side note both were operating tempature engines when removed

my first video I did on removing the spark plugs years ago I used a impact on low torque with engine hot to remove all the plugs

Didn't see that but yes impact best for old ones I added copper antisieze to them so next time likely a ratchet, wonder if this has80k left in it original engine trans and cam phasers , only things done bug are oil pump and transmission valve body/mechatronics

I just went back into my 5.4 3v because I did pump and guides and no tensioner. About a month ago I just went back in and did the steel tensioners and one guide which had been destroyed in about 9 months. I’m about to do the spark plugs and thanks for the tip

The spark plugs replace is just about a day job in 5.4 3 valve. I had a miss under load . Replaced with motor craft platum. Every thing good now.

5:24 LOL I only use Champions in lawn mowers and Chryslers (pretty much same thing now that Fiat owns Chrysler). Mechanic shops have made literals fortunes on those Triton engines. When one pulls in, they see dollar signs.

2010 F250 SuperDuty… What are the best plugs… I have a misfire on Cylinder 8 of which I don’t know which one that is..🤨Should I change the coil too ?

So the SP546 is the redesigned plug but it's still a 2 piece? Doesn't that make the champion one piece plug the best plug to use? what is the one piece champion plug item # ? I just read the champion one piece plug run so hot one person had a plug melt down to the threads...anyone else had this happen. I cannot believe how hard it is to find out what is the best plug to put in my truck.
