Inspired me to finally tackle figuring out song mode on my rytm 🤛 Nice jam it’s different listening to a mono machine vid that is chilled rather than hectic. Sounds ambient but with a backbone 👍
I've sold all of my gear (inc Machinedrum and Octatrack) to purely focus on simply using one Monomachine. Really like your other videos so very interested to see what you put together for the Monomachine. Keep up the good work!
thank you! definitely easy to lose focus with these complex devices so I have been mainly rotating them in and out, but as I get deeper into them I'm getting more inclined to occasionally combine them for certain projects
YES!, been waiting for some MM love. I got one the other day (Mk2) and have been exploring it. It has some unique sequencing features (such as independent LFO, amplitude and filter trigs). Very impressed how much you coaxed out of such a simple pattern. I look forward to more MM vids (and Octatrack and machinedrum vids too :D)
hahaha thanks a lot man! Monomachine is a beast, and the LFOs in particular - love that the destination and shape etc. is p-lockable! Was tempted to run this whole thing through the Machinedrum for master EQ and compressor, maybe a smidge of reverb, but I decided to stay focused on MNM
This is excellent. I used to own a MD, A4 and RYTM now just have a Digitakt, which I love but nothing compares to these old silver boxes. This was Elektron at their peak imo. Really miss the MD.
it's kind of funny because on OT I almost never de-sync the delays from the sequencer clock, but for some reason on MNM I want un-synced delays pretty often but I can't get them :( would love for it to be able to go fully wet also (among many other things you can use a fully-wet delay to fake a pre-delay when using the reverb for example). It's still very awesome to have a delay on every channel though
Ive had a MnM since late october and that little metallic bastard surprises me everytime i switch it on! I borrowed a friends MD and it was such a beautiful pairing they really are meant to complement each other. One of my fav things to do with it is polymode on the ensemble mode to make really big complex chords with huge dissonance.
tons of ways to put Monomachine to work! I'm thinking to force myself towards 'single box discipline' for now with MNM in order to really learn it, especially since I am finding it the most challenging to do a track using only MNM as opposed to just MD or just OT
Awesome as always Max ! I would love your take on pushing the Mono into more generative territory as you’ve done with some of the other Elektrons.....if indeed it’s possible. I struggle with the somewhat rigid nature of the Mono so I’m hoping there are some advanced tricks out there....
thank you!! That limited aspect is a lot of what attracts me to Monomachine and Machinedrum, I can either stay focused on the more straightforward features to get to something I like, as I did when I made this piece, or I can get inspired by seeing how I can overcome their more 'square' architectures. I think MNM actually offers far more possibilities than Machinedrum when it comes to generative approaches, since it has much more powerful LFOs and an arpeggiator, but it will take me a while to really dig into that stuff - I want to re-visit a lot of those concepts for MD as well, felt I only scratched the surface
thank you! song mode is pretty useful and powerful but sometimes working inside it can be a little annoying depending on that machine's particular implementation - for example to save changes to a kit on MNM you have to exit song mode
thanks Bruno! I did this one a bit as a study in contrasts - I'd been having a bit of a tricky time getting a kick I really liked out of MNM and when I tried a new approach all of a sudden this really big sound emerged and I knew I wanted to try combining it with the more delicate sounds I've generally tended to coax out of the machine
Love your stuff man! Have you thought of trying a Digitakt? Just wondering if you had thoughts on that because I love your style and input on the MM, MD and OT.
thanks a lot!! The Digi series seems like very nice designs - I've been a bit more tempted by the 'tone than the 'takt tbh (huge FM synth nerd here) but I like my gear on the edge of complexity envelope so generally am only interested in the big boxes - for me using Elektron gear is a lot about being a sort of extension of my modular synth approaches
definitely plan to make some info vids on Monomachine, I am MNM newbie and still have a lot to learn about it but I have been thinking of a few ways to show off some of what I've found interesting about it so far
max marco yah , like you I have the octatrack , Machinedrum uw mkII, and monomachine . The monomachine is an incredible machine , very inspiring . I particularly love its singular arpegiator where s you can have a sequencer inside the main sequencer , and with the SID ARP, you can introduce mouvement in a live situation . I have tried to transpose your Machinedrum trick about midi loop back , but failed . Maybe you can begin a monomachine video by trying the same midi loop back exploration ? Need your help for this point , I am almost certain it is possible to obtain the same kind of results . Also , I recommend to watch NICHOLAS LEMM vidéos about the monomachine , this guy is truly a master with this machine .
extra MIDI features on MNM should make MIDI loopback even more fruitful actually. Will be a bit before I touch on those aspects though, I like to learn these machines patiently from the ground up and focus on internalizing fundamentals. I've actually had MNM since November last year but haven't spent enough time with it to really dig in More powerful and less headaches than MIDI loopback would be to simply use MNM to send MIDI to MD and MD to send MIDI to MNM - MIDI loopback is a bit more of a curious hack that can sometimes be interesting and useful than something I take particularly seriously
So how does the mono machine work, it's a mono synth right? But somehow you're able to sequence numerous tracks? Or are you sequencing some modular gear?
it is only a Monomachine in this track/vid. Monomachine is basically 6 mono synths+sequencers, but it is far more powerful and deep than that description allows
@@maxmarco and it has effects built in too? How is it on the bit crushing side? I'm just trying to wrap my head around how autechre did it, and how much gear they had to get that glitchy stuff
thanks!! these older Elektrons are tricky, the LEDs get washed out really fast in the bright lighting conditions that will get the screen looking really crisp before any processing, so it's always a trade-off. Haven't filmed any mk2 units except briefly at a music store so dunno if that's easier or not? probably just different challenges

Sounds ambient but with a backbone 👍
Wahnsinn! Kontrolliertes Chaos. Genial.
Yes! Looking forward to more MNM videos. I'm still trying to get to grips with this excellent machine.
it's a beast! to me it sounds quite a bit different than MD despite the similarities, which surprised me when I first had my hands on it
Sell it to me for 23k 😉
Excellent as usual. This is exactly what I need to learn to build a complete track on Monomachine, learning to chain patterns into song mode.

if I had to pick just one it'd probably be Octatrack, but Machinedrum and Monomachine both have a special charm
A small work of art! LOVE IT so MUCH!
:D :D :D Thank you!! Monomachine is super awesome!
This reminds me of flying fish. Absolutely beautiful.
thanks a lot man!! I'm glad I finally sat down and put the MNM to work - sine waves into delay is 👌👌👌 and Monomachine has a lot of delays!! :D
max marco Yes so much delay freedom, it’s a beautiful thing.

super nice jam Max
You're a wizard! Cheers

Great stuff!
thank you!
This is reeeally good!
thank you!
Great song dude! Inspiring use of the MM (don't have one myself, yet). Makes me want to use song mode on my Elektrons.

rich sound, overwhelming sometimes ... as a statement its pleasing to my ear... cool use of that machine

Yaaaayyyyyyyy
Are you gonna make tutorials for the monomachine , like the others for octatrack and Machinedrum? Just expect that !

Is that the standard screen for mono machine?
yup, I did some processing to make it more legible/high-contrast - lighting and processing can dramatically change how the screen appears in video
@@maxmarco quality photography :)

Just as I’d begged to borrow the money, I saw the prize slip thru my fingers at £1650! 🤦🏻
3:18 to much bro, rest is pretty awesome, carry one
thank you! Kinda scratching my head about what's remarkable at 3:18 though?
the audio is a bit loud for my ears,. not sure what you think,. could be better balanced between the bass and treble volumes,. or compressed,.
very Aphex Twin-ey.
I'll assume it's a compliment :D
@@maxmarco haha! yeah
