It sucks to see so many people complaining about the instagram algorithm, and yet instagram is doing absolutely nothing to balance it. Im glad that Vero got advantage of that and gave us what we asked for. Can't wait for ig to lose a shitload of users and actually understand the power of the internet.
But people aren't _leaving_ ... that would equate to deleting accounts, which I don't think many people are doing tbh.
Right or wrong Instagram knows what its doing and in an extreme they can do without most pro photographers... it's not their core audience. They have all the numbers and stats at their disposal and will tweak the algorithm accordingly. Ultimately they will go after what makes them the most money.
@@soundscape26 I totally agree but since most photographers started to show their work from instagram - that draw even more people and in the longterm it became the number one platform for them (and not only) and to my honest opinion gave some value to the app. Now imagine a big number of them creatives (photographers or not) switch platform. What ig's worth will be then? Random dumb reels of people with no effort but views because of a viral audio. You get my point right? The algorithm at the moment is so broken it feels like cheating. Imagine you are playing GTA V and you enable a shit load of cheats and you have infinite money, you never die etc. In 3 days your interest will be over and the game will lose its value.
@@georgearmaos8906 Yes, I agree with you... I had to play a bit of the devil's advocate because I can only imagine a huge company like Meta know what they are doing. But of course they can also make some blunders, so time will tell.
IG won't lose anything because no one cares about us photographers. Its driven by models and influencers, not photographers. Thats why the photographer gets like 100 likes and 20 comments on a photo while the model gets tens of thousands of likes and hundreds of comments on that same photo.

This sounds awesome, and I DESPISE Instagram when they forced the update that just shows random crap and ads. It used to be ONLY friends posts and that's what I liked about it. Only problem is, I'm 31 now and most friends hardly use social media anymore, so trying to get them to start a new one is literally impossible.
Same. My circle probably the same. The same as tiktok. People are joining them cause of business. Rarely for personal reason. They probably stick with what they got. And for us, that era has probably went away slowly

Vero might win the battle for the photography nerds but it will never dethrone instagram as the default image sharing app. Casuals don't care about features they just go where their friends and celebrities are. Sorry but it's true. That said, I wish Vero well in their effort to defeat one of Zuckerberg's army of soulless apps.

Even if it won’t dethrone, the idea of vero give me envy to go into that and create content on that plateform. I did try pixelfed and peertube. But it’s to hard to use. If I can make something on vero with 1ksub, I would be so more happy than doing something on instagram. I really hope that the CEO of vero is really « vero » now ! Haha

You’re right. It will never dethrone IG. What it does is give, photographers, a platform where their followers actually SEE them. With no adds. No suggestions. Actual people. The folks engaged with Vero, also police the app. When trolls and bots do show up, they are quickly squashed. IG has a spot in social media. Vero is getting a bigger spot for Artists

Thanks to you I got into Vero…its such a breath of fresh air when it comes to photography…a platform where you can share your passion and love for fotography without being forced to engage in things you didnt sign up for…only been on it for a couple of weeks now and I already engaged with a lot of great photographers that take the time to give you tips and help you out when you need to do something you dont quite understand…love it and like you said to be able to see how long I am on the app is a great tool for me to control my daily social media usage

I'm loving my Vero experience so far, fast, friendly, and a great way of sharing my photos. The menus are intuitive, and have really cool features! I have been connecting with a lot of photographers, and great people, without the spam, scams, ads, and crazy algorithm that has caused very little engagement on Instagram. Great video!
I joined a few days ago, and my posts actually get seen and get engaged with by other creators. I absolutely love the community on there and how it runs, it seems like it lets every post have the greatest chances of being seen and doesnt favor one over the other and that helps small creators such as myself out A LOT!
I had to stop the video at 2.30 mark. It's a resounding YES! Having the chance to see content in favor of real state screen in every platform, operative system and device is a no brainer YES! As a Graphic and Motion Designer, this is a dream. Showing my work and share other's work in that way is the real deal. Thanks for advocating in this direction.
Signed up for it in 2018 posted a little bit then forgot about it. It's a really great alternative and I hope more ppl use it, only 2 of the 12 ppl I follow on Vero are consistently posting and one of them is you. Thanks for the video it has made me give it a second look and it's going to be much more useful to me now then it was in 2018.

It was pretty cool to see Vero come back into the spotlight. I joined up years and years and years ago but had no reason to stick around with it.
My recent experience was pretty awesome. I made a post on Vero, let it generate the hashtags, took those same hashtags. Used those on Instagram and that post was my best performing post in a long time.
What I absolutely love about Vero is the desktop app. It makes everything so much easier to post and see my friends posts.
Just finding out about it and what you said in the end is so true even for someone like me who's not a content creator, just an amateur photographer: it's a breath of fresh air that makes me want to go make new things to post. That's a feeling I haven't had in a minute

I agree with ALL of this. I love VERO and it's so nice on an iPad. I don't time myself while there because it's so relaxing and enjoyable to be in there. And when you mentioned it the first time I went over there and remembered I actually already had an account there from 2018! I had totally forgotten about it lol - and now Vero is where I spend my sm me time.
I absolutely love VERO, so easy and it lets creators be creators and connect

Hi@@nadiration yes, a couple years back or so, when Vero was just on the scene they were offering “lifetime” accounts to the first million people or so to sign up. Currently the subscription part of Vero is not active as of yet. There’s an interview in Vero with the ceo & co-founder that dives deeper into the subject.
Yes peter! keep it coming, you should also make a point of how ordinary people should use vero too, not just photographers, that's when the platform will truly thrive!

This is absolutely true. Peters original video inspired me to blog about how not only photographers, but bloggers and other creators should use Vero, too. The SEO on the post is hitting so hopefully it'll push some more people to Vero lol

I hope more creators like yourself with lots of clout and presence keep shouting out Vero. It really needs more attention. I'm having lots of fun with the app, it has a gorgeous design, and feels like a return to "norm"/the old days of instagram.

Vero definitely feels like a breathe of fresh air because it is so honest and genuine, while Instagram feels like it just wants to abuse you in every way it can. Is it perfect? No, but I think that as the platform grows it will get better with time.
This is so fake. Even Peter McKinnon does not follow more than 8 people on Vero. Half of them doesn't even upload pics.
There are hardly any users. I have 6 followers in a month because you can't share the photos with everyone, only your followers can see it which is useless. How are you supposed to get new followers?

I've noticed some big-name photographers join in the past week, which is great. I find the app a little clunky - it often scrolls back to the top when I'm going down and liking photos and sometimes doesn't show images at all, forcing me to restart the app - but the idea is great, as is the community.
I literally spit out my coffee laughing! "... when you're eating the main course, they come over and slap you and close the restaurant before you can order dessert." 😂

Been on Vero for a couple of weeks now and it's great, a complete breath of fresh air. Since I got onto Vero, I haven't bothered posting anything on IG.
As a creator, I completely lost the motivation on posting on Instagram, I'm not just talking about how hard they made organic growth, I'm also tired about the hysteria of people using Instagram, commenting, liking, following, unfollowing, all for the sake of the ALGORITHM... With Vero the game has changed! I feel like I connect with people, I REALLY interact with them, I can spent time writing a caption for my next post just because I enjoy it again, because I feel like people are really interested in reading and engaging with other creators! I don't know if Vero will replace Instagram but I just think that now we have a place to stay and share again for the love of sharing.
I've been so happy with Vero. I don't feel the need to post banger pictures every time. Just kinda fun shots I have. That I never posted because the algorithm wouldn't have liked it. It makes me very happy haha

I'm a Realtor in New Mexico and I shared this video with my friends and coworkers to let them know, yes, there's an alternative to instagram.... or just social media in general (not a fan of meta if you can't tell). I'm also a hobby photographer and I've been following your work for a long time. Thanks for all the cool tips and inspiration!
Love the app and the concept and I actually joined after your last video but my only issue with Vero is that it still lacks the casual users, you know, people who are not photographers or content creators. I mean, sure, say all you want about Instagram and I can agree on every bad thing you'd have to say about it but most casual users that, in my case, might become clients are on Instagram.
The situation kinda reminds me of Windows Phone back in the day. They had way better OS than Apple and Android at that point but still failed miserably because they were kinda late to the party and couldn't convince people to make the switch. I really hope I'm wrong on this and we start seeing more people joining 🤞🏼

The real problem for me is that now Vero is free for everyone, but it's been announced already that out of beta it will be a subscription service. I can't see how such a business model can work to replace Instagram, especially for "casual users". It could work now, much less then IMO.

VERO will never have casual users. Photographers just need to adapt to grow on IG. With the new paid subscription button on IG, there’s so much potential for sub only content like live street photography
@@Loqu4 yeah i mean there are subscriptions everywhere today. we never realised it but thats what the reality is. from adobe to microsoft to apple to netflix- its everytwhere. heck we now even have a subscription within a subscription- like amazon prime with its new mini subscription for different "channels" . and people are happily paying it. so i guess the subscription model wont be an issue for people who care about product quality. plus as long as the price is reasonable, say no more than 20-40 usd per year, i guess people wont mind paying for it. and since it is heavilyy photography focussed, it might be included as bundles, say for example, with adobe cc. or when you buy a new sony camera, you get 1 year free vero and such. possibilities are endless.
As a hobbyist photographer who is looking for inspiration and ideas to improve my skills social media is very useful and I've just downloaded Vero. I was not surprised to see you were the first user to pop up as recommended! After spending a few hours looking through the content I can say that it is so much better than Instagram and hopefully more people will sign up and I'll have an even bigger pool of inspiration to learn from

photographers set the main mainstream social platform for years to come - Very exiting to be honest.
Hoping to see Vero will grow outside the photography niche.

It would be great if you could sign up on the Desktop, at the moment you can look at Vero on the Desktop but if you try to interact with it, it wants you to sign up via the smart phone.

Been on Vero for about a week now and I'm liking it. Although it seems pretty difficult to gain followers for me right now. Just got my first one today, which seems a little odd after a week of posting. But still, my photos are getting interacted with more on Vero than on my 2700 follower IG account which is making posting fun again. Going to keep posting regularly and see what happens.

Wow, this app sounds like it was made by people who wanted to fix all the things that are wrong with Instagram. It looks soooo appealing. Vero is for Insta, the level of threat Vimeo is for TH-cam...
There are no tricks to it really, just about tagging content and building connections. Utilising profiles like RAW Pictas & Podium can help if you get selected. Getting your work noticed and recommend by a well followed person can also work....
... however I would say that actually building a big following isn't really the goal. It's about finding your tribe there and finding work that inspires you and people you want to get your work critiqued by
You can't, thats why its an awful app with hardly any users.
As someone that's been using Vero for a while now, I'm PUMPED that you're on it and helping other people find it as well! The more people that use the platform, the better it can become. Have you had a chance to check out the multiple profile photo setup yet? So you can have a profile photo that's for your close friends, friends, and acquaintances. I found that pretty neat. You can find it in Settings > Edit Profile > Use Three Avatars. That also helps me to know when I'm scrolling and see my own posts, what level I shared them on.

Two points of critique I have with this app: Theres no 2-factor authentication (SMS/phone is the weakest form and doesn't really count - implement One Time Password instead please Vero). Also, I don't like that I can't disable the "calling" feature entirely too.
The meal comparison between Instagram and Vero was the funniest and yet most accurate description of Instagram ever!!

@@TehBananaBread I think that the same way Instagrams beginning popularity audience that was mainly photograph oriented could potential transition to another platform if more and more photographers hear about it like I just did a few days ago. Except I don’t it could grow as popular because Instagram has multi purposes now and a lot of people seem well planted.

As always the experience for an established photographer/social media personality with millions of followers who will migrate with them is vastly different to that of a small hobbyist/beginner so it's hard to take this stuff too seriously.
Yeah thats my thoughts exactly for him it's great bc he can easily get the engagement on Vero but for me I don't have that following and its even less on a new platform so it's like sending photos into the void.. I also tried to give 500px a try but there just aren't enough users on those platforms right now.
I've had smaller photog friends switched then comeback to IG and get better at reels and have more engagement
Just gotta learn how to adapt or just not care

As a new photographer - my photos get way more engagement on Vero for way less effort and it's not even close.
I don't have any following and didn't really tell anyone I was switching. When I was still posting on both platforms, the same photo on vero got double the engagement and none of that was driven by bot accounts saying "share on [paid feature page here]"
Something I wish facebook would do is allow us to be able to group our friends into categories. Sort of like playlists in youtube. I could create groups like models, photogs, dancers, and only see them in the scroll. Click on models and only see the content they are putting out, click on close friends and only see theirs, click on all and see all etc...

Oh well… I will be still making my app specifically for photographers even though VERO is booming RN. I think that in this day of age apps need to be extremely specific/ niche-oriented. Vero seems so nice. Although for us Finn's it's a bit scary name since Vero means "Tax" in finnish
It’s a free app now, but once they get enough users hooked, the “Vero” will be coming.
Loving Vero so far, even just for the small wins like being able to post whatever damn aspect ratio you want! Got some landscapes and portrait shots in the one post? Yep it does it!! It’s one thing that drives me nuts about Insta so I’m so glad Vero got that, and so much more, spot on!

I've been using the Vero app to share my photography as well for around a month now, and I'm loving it. I find the options for sharing movies and tv shows great. I even got some of my friends to use it.
Can you PLEASE sell your pirate life hats?! I would absolutely love one. And a hoodie. I love all things you sell, and unlike other TH-camrs, you sell high quality things😂. Unfortunately that means I can’t afford them, but I’d definitely buy a hat
No explore segment is a big drawback. or if it's there, i don't know how to find it. The UI is bit stacked too, they should make it simpler. Vero is better for photography. But little complex. They should simplify the app so it becomes a breeze. The connect/follow thing is still bit confusing for newcomers. I am sure over time they gonna fix it. Vero is undoubtedly better for photos, but can they sustain this load?

After seeing this video I’m seriously considering to give VERO a try and revive my content creations now on hold since 2020!

I love the idea of an alternative to Instagram. Twitter fits a different mold despite being able to share photos and videos. But these companies having a monopoly on the creator's show space needs to gooo. Take your content where it looks the best and stop being nostalgic about places like FB, Instagram, and Twitter. They don't care about you. In fact, they have exploited most of the big creator accounts and just as easily buried anyone trying to make a name for themselves. Granted, Vero can do what it's doing because it's so small. Eventually, if enough people go to it, it'll encounter all the same problems. Impossible amounts of data usage from user uploads will hog server/cloud space leading to further "crunch quality" and less full res posting possibilities. The likelihood of a large investor coming along with big pockets looking to buy will be too good for them to pass up and the algorithm will go out the window. Ads will creep in more and more. It's happened with every social media platform, and it'll happen again. But might as well enjoy it while we can.
