Different strokes for different folks. Honestly - I like MISC because it feels as though it's a natural progression from modern air/spacecraft. It's believable. I'm also not mad at the Airstream vibes, I've been looking for a space camper
Well presented! The only annoyance was, that you only offered the honest review, completely ignoring the needs of those who were looking for a dishonest review, for example, to convince the wife to buy this toothless camper.
Tell the wife I said "Not only is it a good idea.. it is, in fact, a necessary one. The possibilities presented by owning such a magnificient vessel are innumerable. Not to mention, authorizing such an acquisition would put you in great favor... which is something to consider as Christmas approaches with haste".
Looking forward to flying it myself, the MAX is an odd duck of a ship. I kinda like it that way though. It's really strange that for a dedicated cargo ship it has a dedicated vehicle garage, not an optional one. However you can easily slide more non-grid cargo. I appreciate the fact that while there are cargo ships that hold more like the caterpillar this ship allows max size 32SCU containers, an impressive 6 of them on grid. So while lacking a tractor beam you can choose less boxes but of larger size which is nice. The belly cargo bay is nice, quickly rising and lowering to swap boxes to limit your time on the ground and it prevents really sneaky people from getting onto your ship easily without noticing as they can not ascend into the rest of the ship from the cargo platform. Lack of a belly guns and a slow roll rate is a bummer, but the strong dorsal weaponry again makes it very will suited to defend itself while loading and unloading and being rather tanky doesn't hurt either but I agree it is a bit to slow even for a cargo ship. I happen to love the interior of the ship, not too industrial but not fancy. While it does border on almost 'too much space' I think its nice not to feel too crowded and I really enjoy having not only 4 exit points but 4 elevators and a ladder to move between the floors makes navigating the ship quick and easy.
Great summary - and I agree.. this ship is actually really exciting. It might be my daily until engineering comes out. And when it does, I might still try and find a way to make it my daily.
Dude, awesome video. Thank you for the detailed walkthrough. It feels like I'm buying a house XD. I logged into the PTU to check out the Starlancer Max :D.
@@VinnyYR4469 I have both pledged - I'm excited to see the performance of the TAC in ground assault scenarios. HOPEFULLY there will be more of that gameplay in Pyro.
I was pretty infatuated with the Starlancer MAX when I first saw it so I ended up getting it with store credit. I'm going to wait until I get my hands on it to decide for myself if I want to keep it or go with something else like a corsair. The interior is really nice and it reminds me of a carrack which I've always loved the concept of.
I think the greatest strength for the starlancer max is the ability to go toe to toe with ships of similar size if not bigger. For example, if it and a hammerhead are moving around the same SME speed, the full broad side capabilities of a tac would be hard for a hammerhead to handle. dual S5 and 2 dual S4 turrets just shooting would be devastating. Add someone with a Mirai fury to help keep smaller crafts from sitting underneath it makes it a great combat/patrol ship.
I started off with a few doubts about the MAX, but over the last couple of days my admiration for it has greatly increased. I love the versatility and accessibility and I think it has a very good role to play in SC. There’s also a homely atmosphere that I’ve picked up which, as much as I love it, the Corsair sadly lacks. I’m not comparing the two as they have their own place in the game, but I feel far more relaxed in the MAX to the point it will be my regular runabout. I would really like for the belly cargo bay to be better lit outside, and the radar to be in a better position, but they are only minor quibbles. What I have done is put a 1scu box in the niche were there is access to a component not in the game yet, next to the stair. It’s right opposite the elevator and a great place to store extra suits and weapons etc as you literally have to walk past it from the cockpit. Great vid and an excellent introduction to the MAX. Subbed!
Nice! I think the lighting in the cargo bay is an issue of it not being finished. Also, global illumination will help to fix that (hopefully). Thanks for the sub!
Let's be real, how many of us can call upon someone else to crew our ships when we log in? My bet is the majority play solo the majority of the time. Just stick to using the SLM to do cargo as it was intended for and you'll be fine. Nice to know its limits when it comes to RUNNING. As a cargo running you never want to get jumped to begin with. Thanks for showing us what it can take - even if you had to do it with someone else. This ship will mostly be flown solo. Without NPCs these larger vessels feel like a ghost ship. That said, I am getting the Polaris. hahahahahaa. Now that thing can take damage! A to C and then B, that's how it's done!
I upgraded from a Zues and have Connies with ingame money. The Starlancer feels much bigger and nicer. Also so much space they had to widen every room to use up the space.
The mirrors now work and the radar has been moved to in front of the pilot but itvreally needs to be bigger to be of any use. As a trader, what I like about this ship is that you can load 224scu in around 12 minutes though that does involve loading 8x4scu crates into a gap that barely works so it cab be quite frustrating. If you ignore those crates and just load 6x32scu crates then you can load 192scu in 7.45 which is very useful when unsure if pirates might turn up. Just loading 128 into the belly bay takes only 5 minutes even if the crates are in the freight elevator. Compare that to the Zeus which takes four times as long 😅 My only complaint is that there is so much wasted space. The rear bay could hold twice as much, literally, if they had just made the the grid cover the whole width and there would still have been room to walk through. Extra gun racks would have been nice too and the big empty spaces in the engine room and escape capsule room make me cringe.
@@ForgeCoreGaming Oh yes. I mostly fly solo so wont often have gunners but to be honest I have *never* been pirated in 8 years of mostly flying industrial ships. Even loading wont benefit much by having extra crew. When I timed it to the other day to see I could do it in 12 minutes someone suggested it would be even faster with crew but I thought about it and two people loading the rear would just get in each others way and having two people loading the belly bay from opposite sides would only save a couple of minutes as it only takes 1:50 each side. Extra security at outposts would be useful though :-) Not that it would not be great fun to take that ship out into deep space with three friends or a multi session, multi system trip to the other side of the verse bedlogging in between. My org has plans to take Moles & Prospectors and a refining ship out to the Aaron Halo when we get refinery ships and then stay there for a couple of nights bedlogging in between so the Max will be a great addition for living aboard and taking refined ore back to sell.
That's a great point - I always do these tests with soloing in mind though since it's difficult to reliably get crew members (even with an org). I also always like to see the viability of soloing a ship if I enjoy it.
It really seems to be a great ship, as well as a great progression from the Freelancer series. I hope that there will be some form of explorer variant as well, as that’d be a great competitor to the 600i Explorer!
Honestly - I think the MAX fits the explorer role really well. Particularly due to amenities it offers to the crew members. That's what I plan on using mine for - explorer/support ship carrying supplies for the fleet.
Nice review vid. Personally love the look of the SL Max, just wish cig would have moved one of the top turrets to the bottom… but pilot can just roll to bring top guns in line with pirates/npcs. The Baby Max still has a special place in my ❤, it was my work horse hauler when I first started playing SC.
I actually took the Freelancer Max out just 2 days ago to see how it performed during the Save Stanton mission. Honestly, not bad against NPC's. Glad you liked the video!
The low speed and turrets gives it a real battle barge kinda vibe. Feels like a ship designed around long single ship cargo runs into systems like Pyro. Especially with crew quarters that big. I hope they redesign the freelancer a bit with this things design philosophy. Especially the dropping cargo platform
Considering the Starlancer MAX is predominantly a cargo hauler and not a combat ship... yes the belly maybe exposed and undefended, but the top two turrets make for GREAT coverage of the skies and keeping them clear while while on the ground and allowing your crew to load up the cargo hold. While I wouldn't take the StarMAX into active dogfighting combat, as a large multi-mission, it's more than capable of being very useful in situations like Jumptown and selling narcotics at ground locations outside armistice zones.
Very small nitpick but I seriously hope the tac includes a large weapon rack. That's about the only thing missing from this version, really. Been thinking about upgrading my titan this IAE but it's become a hard choice between C1, Zeus, and now this. Either way I foresee a second upgrade to the tac in the future ...
Hopefully they will fix it, but I found this ship to be a real pain to load and unload with an ATLS due to the little invisible lip on the outside edges of the main cargo hold. For me, the 8+SCU boxes were just tough to get off the grid and they slammed into the ship like crazy putting them on (primarily because the ATLS just THROWS boxes around so I'm sure it would have been better, albeit slower, with a hand-held tractor). I really like the interior but after doing a decently large cargo hauling mission, I don't think it will be my main cargo ship and I will likely CCU it to something else. Maybe the BLD or a medium salvage ship if one is announced.
@ForgeCoreGaming nah I have extra store credit so I currently have one in the fleet for testing. Unfortunately been so busy I haven't had a chance to take it out in PTU as of yet. Related, suggesting the same type of video, but for the Polaris? I'm soooooo on the fence for one, just super hesitant to commit my CCU chain for one.
I like it, Its not perfect and it has alot of wasted potential space(upper floor gunrack by escape pods would have been nice). When AI blades become a thing this ship will be great for 1-2 people, pilot and engineer.
I’ve done the save Stanton protect hauler and cargo recovery solo in it a few times now. I’ve used fixed and gimbal mode and with gimbal mode you can stay on target la lot longer when a smaller ship is trying to pass you more so than a lot of ships because of the gun configuration.. I forgot to change my crosshairs opacity and still completed without getting killed so for now at least it can take a lot of hits.
@ yes it’s pretty decent. They’re taking the distribution center part out for now because of issues, but save cargo and protect cargo are cool. Looks like you’ll earn some laser repeaters for completing all phases, but they are size 2 and 3 from what I’ve heard.
The andromeda is a little bit faster.. so it would have an easier go at things. The Connies, in general, are pretty good at combat. I'd say it would do better, but I don't buy ships simply for their performance :)
I don't really care about gun racks and all that. It's the Max, not the Tac. What i do care about is cargo space. And while this ship is nice to look at, it feels more like an exploration variant and less like a full on cargo hauler. The sleeping and lounge area are excessive, and the rear vehicle bay could use a grid on that vehicle pad. Doing so would increase the overall cargo capacity. And to hell with stuffing boxes in that won't click to the grid. Long term, that won't be a wise thing to do.... The front cargo section could use an overhaul too. Being able to stack 32 scu crates 2 high on all 4 points would increase that area to 256 scu alone. Slap a sliding tractor beam along the catwalk and you turn your Starlancer Trek "explorer" into an actual Starlancer Max with roughly 400 scu's of cargo capacity. That's what I would have liked to see with this ship. She's not bad now but, for it's size and speed, more cargo was definitely in line.
Definitely needs more gun racks. Something by cockpit and a tool rack by cargo would be ideal. Additionally, the combination of offset radar with no flight controls for copilot makes no sense. The only way there could be a reason to have it in such an awkward position is to allow flight controls from either side. Overall a nice ship though.
Yeah - I was disappointed to see that the copilot has no flight controls. I figured since the (recently released) Zeus & Polaris had copilot controls - that this one would follow suit.
@@ForgeCoreGaming I have experienced being stuck in the co-pilot seat with a pilot that lost connection. Character still sitting there but no-one controlling the ship.
@@ForgeCoreGaming Well if they cant take onboard common sense, adapt/melt and except changes....no one cares, they'll just have to live out their tortured lives on youtube, and go back to building useless ships in Starfiels, or playing with sesame St characters in NMS. Man up or move on, anyways im off down the pub.
Yes foe sure... but if yiu hit key G, you activate the gimbal mode and then you can hit the target way better and faster. I did save stanton on ptu and i survived all those targets. They were shooting on me, i thought i will never survive that mess, after 10 minutes i was still there, my shild recovered back, my ship was damaged 2% ... that was interesting to me. But the origin 400i, that ship was hard to destroy, it felt like the ship have unlimited shield. The starlance max is a perfect camper, i got my ursa rover on the ship, still a lot of cargo available, nive resting rooms with kitchen, billard. Its a very good allrounder ship with good defence. Imagine you have 2 friends with you on the turrets, nobody could destroy you. Since 2016, this is the ship i want to start when 1.0 and work forward. I cant imagine, there will be a better ship, because i dont like small or too big shops, this one seems to be the middle size. My opinion, everybody can dissagree for sure
I think it's a great ship. I just fear that they will do the same thing they did with the Corsair once they have sold enough of them, and Nerf it to sell the next ship in line.
Doesn't get to me, either. I think people fixate too much on the view yet don't seem to have an issue with the Hercules line. Also, MISC makes the Fury (Mirai) AND Reliant which is pretty much a flying bubble cockpit. Lastly the Razor line has a large view (also MISC) area as well. I think MISC is probably the most diversified brand.
If you're focusing on raw stats, I wouldn't. But for almost every other reason, I would. But that's just me, and I'm not particularly fond of the constellation series.
@@ForgeCoreGaming Taurus, but i am still waiting to test the Max on the IAE to now if i really want to ccu to it, Taurus its a really a great ship, and i wanted to lock my price before it goes up
@@ForgeCoreGaming you loose 128SCU cargo indeed, you still have 96SCU of cargo.. but get lots of attack power and medical and jumpseats. Its not just getting one extra size 3 shield.
@@machoalright You said with only 2 people. I'm aware of the extra turrets and jump seats. But they're not really of any consequence if you're only crewing with 2 people. We just got out wires crossed.
@@ForgeCoreGaming with only 2 people you dont get obviouslly not the extra out of the TAC. besides the medical and you loose 128SCU for that. If you only have 2 people to board a ship, i think its better to get the ZEUS.
IMHO. this ship should be called Just starlancer. not with MAX. the habitation and mess hall just too big. for that ship. if the just reduce the habiation and main hall to smaller size. and change it into cargo hall so it can be more bigger room for cargo. so that name will correct Starlancer max. the interior more look like Valkyrie actually I understanding almost all MISC ship. the lower lever ship always put as cargo and armory and second and above for crew. this ship kinda mix bag
Again - I show my mistakes as well - I just picked clips at random. After about 5 minutes in the match, I started changing how I flew it. Good for you though.

@ yes it’s pretty decent. They’re taking the distribution center part out for now because of issues, but save cargo and protect cargo are cool. Looks like you’ll earn some laser repeaters for completing all phases, but they are size 2 and 3 from what I’ve heard.
@@luvit579 Yeah - those laser repeaters seem to be more novelty than anything else.
@@ForgeCoreGaming i agree, wouldn't mind having them but i won't be too disappointed if i don't get them
Still dreaming of an updated Caterpillar, done to the standard of the Starlancer.
Yeah - I wish they would go back and rework all of the ships that need it. Same reason why I abandoned my 600i.
if you threw on only size 4s for the pilot for an Andromeda, and did the exact same thing, how would it compare?
I think they purposely hold back features like the ones you're talking about so they can keep the price balanced.
Meh, we have enough boring pure cargo ships it is nice to see a change in concept for once.
@@JadedMantis13 Yeah -that's a problem that isn't unique to this ship. It happens with any ship where the pilot DC"s.
the misc astetic itself is pretty cool but i really dont like the small lid as main cockpit window. Just feels like im blind in too many angles
I was "on the fence" about it early on - but you really get used to it
I love the ship. I almost hate that so many people love it because, like the Corsair, everyone is going to own one until the nerf happens.
Let's cross our fingers they're using a bit more foresight into ship design now that the direction of the game has been hashed out further.
Rebalance......its rebalance. The Carrot was OP.....now its not, hense, REBALANCED. Rebalancing is why this game exists, without it..well.
@@davewills148 That's why I always call it a rebalance - but I do understand why many people just use the term "nerf"
@@davewills148 It's all good here, my friend. Have a pint for me!
Anyone else notice the kitchen sink doesn’t have a faucet or drain? Just a stainless steel basin.
We couldn't afford plumbing
It fights waaaaybetter than you made it look - other than that nice video.
My opinion, everybody can dissagree for sure
yeah its not to bad of a ship I quite enjoy it. thank you for the video!
Thank you for watching!
I think it's a great ship. I just fear that they will do the same thing they did with the Corsair once they have sold enough of them, and Nerf it to sell the next ship in line.
Ohhh that would be disappointing!
Yeah misc pilot view will always limit my enthusiasm for that brand unless it really is the bees knees.
The view didn't reall upset me while I was using it :)
What setup were you running? In pirate swarm
I just ran it stock
please add the topic markers (donno what they called) on the video, easier to watch the parts that one might be interested.
I'll look into adding chapters!
Still struggeling with the decision wether to upgrade from the taurus or Not :/
If you're focusing on raw stats, I wouldn't. But for almost every other reason, I would. But that's just me, and I'm not particularly fond of the constellation series.
I hope you didn't expect to be faster than a light fighter 😏
Sure didn't
i have ccu to Max already waiting in my hangar
What'd you CCU from?
@@ForgeCoreGaming Taurus, but i am still waiting to test the Max on the IAE to now if i really want to ccu to it, Taurus its a really a great ship, and i wanted to lock my price before it goes up
@@Wolf_Rayet That all makes sense!
if you dont crew all turrets or go with only 2 people like in the max as in the TAC the TAC imo has not much added value.
Just the extra size 3 shield! But then you lose all the cargo space
If you only have 2 people to board a ship, i think its better to get the ZEUS.
its a cargo ship not a combat ship
I state that in the video. Still needs to be able to survive when Pirates show up or during ERT's
Small crew Iol, I am soooo soloing this sh it
Oh I'm going to as well! It's the perfect bunker runner.
@ForgeCoreGaming heck yeah with nursa
Stats mean nothing, Solo or Crewed it will perform as well as the crew is competent.
IMHO. this ship should be called Just starlancer. not with MAX. the habitation and mess hall just too big. for that ship.
if the just reduce the habiation and main hall to smaller size. and change it into cargo hall so it can be more bigger room for cargo. so that name will correct Starlancer max. the interior more look like Valkyrie
actually I understanding almost all MISC ship. the lower lever ship always put as cargo and armory and second and above for crew.
this ship kinda mix bag
Fair - that would be more echoing the freelancer Max. But I think a big part of the appeal of this ship is the habitation considerations.
wonder if all of these appliances that are in the ships are EVER going to work my bet is NO lol
Lol soon(TM)!!
Dude you couldnt keep up lol, seen other videos who killed ai pilots a lot faster in the SL
Again - I show my mistakes as well - I just picked clips at random. After about 5 minutes in the match, I started changing how I flew it. Good for you though.
@ForgeCoreGaming I'm just talking sh it
This game is complete ass
I'd say a lot of people (simultaneously) agree & disagree with you. But, it certainly is not for everyone at the moment.
Yikes... some of the worst aim I have seen in a review video.
It's spongey to handle & and I am happy to show my mistakes
