The three fighting factions in the war of Black Mesa
- The American Military Force And Black Ops Unit
- An entire army of technologically advanced alien soldiers and slaves.
- A scientist with most of a hazmat suit and a crowbar.
- Black ops sent to nuke the place
- Race X
- Barney
- Adrian
@@somethingenthusiast The black ops I mentioned. Race X is part of tbe alien army. Adrian Sheppard is part of "The american military force". I supoose Barney and the Black Mesa personnel count as a faction, but they don't win against literally any of the above lol.
Not only scientist with most of hazmat suit and a crowbar, there is 2 more!
@@oomfoof7294 race X is a different thing j believe, they just don't bother with the aliens
*Most of* a hazmat suit. Imagine what Freeman could do if he had the helmet.
"The facility must be under complete military control"
the whole facility is a war zone between you, the aliens and the HECU and i love it
Surface Tension is the best chapter in the game
It's also long as hell.
@@EvilLordCanas It's long but most of it has fun and not tedious unlike a certain interloper
@@semaj00 Tbh, I'd say both Surface Tension and Interloper are one in the same, in that they both have their ups, downs, and epic finales to them. I can say for a fact that there were parts of Surface Tension that I didn't enjoy at all, much like how there were parts of Interloper that I didn't enjoy either, but other than that both chapters had great moments to them.
@@the_furry_inside_your_walls639 You make a very good point , there were parts in Surface Tension which I felt dragged on the same as Interloper however both chapters did have good moments , even Interloper. You gain a like from me , nice comment.
@@semaj00 interloper's fine in black mesa
That metallic beating sounds were probadly Gordon's crowbar.
Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang
Having played through the game recently, I'm getting metal floor-banging giant tentacled monstrosity-related spicy dejá vú.
Gordon beating on the side of the chopper he just took down
It kinda reminds me of a heart beat
Sounds like someone slamming their oven hatch shut so hard that it hits the rack against the back
Man the fact that this song starts to pick up as soon as you hop a fence and get stormed by like 6 soldiers is so perfect
adaptive music :D
I nutted the first time I experienced this when I played thru a few weeks ago
I love how three music themes, tied to HECU encounters (We've got hostiles, surface tension, forget about Freeman) represent how HECU is doing at the moment. We've got hostiles is badass, bold, daring, it's like they arrived and are ready to kick ass. Surface tension is very tense, stressful and hard, they're fighting hard to kick the aliens out of Earth. And then forget about freeman plays like a farewell to the force that fought well, but had to flee and escape.
Roman. S. Couldn't have put it better myself!
i think hecu is just some stupid soliders which sit on their own grenades sometimes and also so scared and weak so they die from one shotgun shot.
@@ИванК-к4ц They would've kicked Gordon's pale ass if he didn't have that HEV suit. Also those guys are brave af. Play this on the hardest difficulty and you will get killed.
@@infamousfalcon588 already did on old versions on medium. dies alot cuz of them. shotgun is my saviour.

-> music starts
-> runs in
-> gets killed by soldiers.
pretty much how most fights go in black mesa
Maybe for you
For me, most fights involve the music starting, getting me super pumped because it's so exciting, then realizing I'm fucking everything up and not looking in the right places and the music is gonna end before the battle is over so I just let them kill me out of shame so I can try and make the most out of the music
Aka early generation combine soldiers.
*quicksaving every 3 seconds*
The soldiers are definitely broken still. This is something that's been an ongoing unfixed bug for years and it has yet to be fixed.
Dying on a part that plays music just means I get to hear the awesome music play over again.
IKR? lol 😂😂😂
Too true.
Some games cut off the music when you die, dunno about Black Mesa, never played it.
Reason why i save before the music starts, so it doesn't cut off
You don't die on a part that plays music, its just not possible.
There are some songs in Black Mesa that I found would not be fitting in a *regular* Half-Life game, only Black Mesa. This whole song was pure Half-Life. And yet it fit Black Mesa perfectly. One of the BEST songs in Black Mesa. Before Xen, of course.
Black mesa feels like a different game to half life itself ofc it would fit black mesa more
There is no physical way not to get pumped the hell up listening to this
"Squad, he's here! It's Freeman! Open fire!"
previously on hunt down the freeman
"THIS IS THE WORST RESCUE OPERATION IN HISTORY!!!"
"GORDON WE MUST STOP THEM COVER ME"
the whole military: AHHH HES GOT ME! OH AHHHHHHHHH!
@@hunglubao1643 Hunt down the freemen is a game now
Defeating the helicopter with this music is truly epicly.
Was i the only person who shot down the helicopter with the tau cannon, i used it in this whole section in fact
@@LeadintheHead before 1.5, we have to shoot it with the tau cannon, but since v1.5 add two m2 browning(for gun nuts: dont mad at me if I'm wrong) its so much easier
@@crl55inzi was playing after 1.5

You can’t get me wrong at this, Joel Nielsen is a good composer. They should hire Joel to the next Half Life Game (I think people said Valve is making a game called Half Life Citadel.)
Is it looks like half life 3
Half Life 3 is being worked on, however it has an *EXTREMELY* small dev team.
@@abnormality3345 AYO
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
We don't need Half life citadel, we need Half life 3 or episode 3.
Oh my god.
Guys.
Y’know the part in Surface Tension where you have to sneak out the hangar with the security guard? If you look in one of the offices before you meet the guard, there’s a poster that says *_Communication. Enhancing ideas is a two way process_*
Cleverly done, Crowbar Collective.
Cleverly done.
thought it was "exchanging" ideas, i may have read wrong
i just got past that part on my 3rd playthrough, god it's such a good game
Guys, I don’t get it
@Luvsantseveen Tovuu I’m pretty sure the joke there is that the guard wants to try and stealth his way out of the hanger, but Gordon (aka the player) can instead choose to fire on the HECU grunts. Hence why it’s a “two way process”, the player can either agree with the guard and attempt to sneak out, or go loud and fight the HECU soldiers in the hanger.
@@rhysthereddragon1326 Thanks!
@@rhysthereddragon1326Bruh I thought it was a stealth only mission because when I tried they would just kill the guard and that's it, it goes dark
This song is the definition of "How it feels to chew 5 gum" such a beautiful masterpiece.
The beginning of the song sounds like something from a terminator movie...I love it
A mix between Terminator, Matrix and Predator. Killer!
I actually didn't expect Black Mesa to be THIS good...best mod and game ever created.
Absolute facts.
It’s not even a mod anymore
@@jorgegames7066 that comment is from 11 years ago
Shit didn’t see how old it was
The music design for the big encounters is so well done! Most of the game just has low ambient music while you crawl through the facility but when the music kicks in you know shit is hitting the fan, it's like go juice before the fight
You know, I'm that kind of guy that saves the ammo to use in the critical situations. I hate taking damage so I use the most optimal positions and tactics. But THIS MASTERPIECE makes me go berserk. It's like my inner doom slayers awakes and takes control. This particular soundtrack makes me going all-in. Thanks, Joel, you are a great composer
Yeah same
One of my favorite video game soundtracks. PERIOD! This was awesome!!
Scratch that! One of my favorite all-around soundtracks. Period!
I was pinned down and then said" Wait, i have a uranium powered energy weapon." Charged it, and flung out of the door and yelled, "SPECIAL FUCKING DELIVERY!"
And then it flew off with a flaming wing and a crippeled rotor
Me too. I saw the heli copter, thought "I just got all this fancy TAU ammo, let's put it to use!"
You did such a good job with this soundtrack. It set the entire mood when we first saw the military and the aliens engage in a full-on war. Bravo!
Truly an amazing piece of work. Say what you want about Black Mesa, its soundtrack is definitely one of its best qualities. I’d say it’s up there with the original Half life games, and maybe even Halo.

Back in 2015, I was looking for different TV channels and I saw one with a scam TV advertisement. That advertisement was playing this theme, LOL. I was like, 'WTF! Isn't this from the Black Mesa soundtrack?' That was the funniest crossover I have ever witnessed.
Yeah, I think I remember that one. I also remember a TV news channel using a HL2 soundtrack for a breaking news moment.
You can already tell a chapter will be chaotic when a awesome theme like this plays and a attack helicopter attacks you during the literal beginning of it
Good Question👍✓
HECU marine: I fear no man. But that thing..

The perfect music for the perfect game, your soundtracks are incredible
I love the hammering noise mixed with the fast-paced music, very good
Probably one of the best soundtrack i've ever heard

Saving Scientist Freeman
when I first played this, I remembered a meme that said Gordon Freeman is Doomguy with a PhD, grabbed the shotgun, and went ham on the soldiers with this playing. Best moment playing the game so far
Wish i could do that.
Feels like if I tried that I'd spend more time dying attempting to sprint at them in a way that didn't get me mowed down than anything else. and that's assuming the shotgun will then actually kill them in 1-2 hits with it's pisspoor fucking spread and damage. Super shotgun it is not.
I like how 3 different versions of it played at the dam in Surface Tension, felt much more fitting.
I absolutely love the sound of metal smashing against metal, bring on the judgment day vibes any day
This theme slaps so fucking hard
No song in a game has ever caused this much of an adrenaline rush, and it was so damn exhilarating.
Surface Tension is one the best levels to ever be featured in an FPS.
I could definitely see a soundtrack like this being used in the Matrix. Really captures that early 2000s science fiction vibe. Good stuff!
Youre a legend joel
I remember hearing this soundtrack playing, that damn helicopter was hard to shoot down.
ikr
Try dying over and over at that part and quicksaving until you get to the autosave right before the ladder that triggers the jets when you get on top. Then, die again and go up the ladder and trigger the jets as fast as possible, while the music is playing.
i just ignored it
@qwerty Yeah. The Tau cannon can kill the helicopter. that's why one of the 50cal nests gives you 100 Depleted Uranium.
@@Tenorite77 fuckin genius
No other OST has made me want to play the bass as much as this one.
Playing through this section again gave me goosebumps, just had to stop by and give props 👏
This track is the first time Black Mesa truly blew my mind. Surface Tension has always been a fun chapter to me in HL1, but the music buildup in Black Mesa was perfect. I saw six guys over the fence I needed to hop, threw two grenades and ran straight towards it and the music kicked up as I started BLASTIN
I cant get over how good this song is
Everlasting banger.
This sounds like it belongs to the original Half-Life OST and I love it.
This one is my absolutely favorite.
I always liked how the chopper was your nemesis for a bit
OST:3 minutes
Game:three seconds of music, take it or leave it
This perfectly describes the year 2020
Still can’t get over how damn good this game’s soundtrack is
Just INCREDIBLE!! This version is something.....magnificent!! Congratulations!!

Quicksave is the only option for anything. So instead of restarting the game every time you die, which just wastes a fuck ton of time: just. quicksave.

You hear that banging in the beginning? It hit your head back to shape.
This track reminds me of Adrenaline Horror from HL's soundtrack.

The helicopter fight near rockside armory. Went in blind on hardest difficulty. MOTHER OF GOD what an epic fight with this music.
I KNOW, RIGHT?! I played on Normal and it was still tricky. I had *several* occasions when the game froze right when I was at 1 health. It was quite funny.
Another great one, this amazing game's got an amazing soundtrack :)
"That's him! That's the guy!"
I love the moment in Black Mesa, when we first get to the surface after the horror in the complex, and with the hope that everything will be fine, but on the surface we are met by a bunch of soldiers, armored vehicles, fortifications, helicopters, a mortar... and we are forced to go back underground in a panic and under fire from everything.
Literalmente black mesa es bueno en todos los escenarios, y es un juego hecho por fans, ahí se ve como es un juego hecho con amor y pasión supera las expectativas y se va más allá convirtiendose en uno de los mejores remakes hechos por fans
if you killed enemies with the revolver perfectly synced with this beat we are instantly friends
Such a good game. They absolutely nailed it.
A good song that gets the adrenaline running.

The nice part of the songs is if you quicksave when the song is playing, then reload the save, the song starts over. Then you can keep the song going far past it was supposed to (even having two songs playing at once)
I know I am 10 years too late but this drop... Honestly this one has to be my favorite combat song in the game as it fits the area really well the song it self is a banger and it doesn't over stay it's welcome! For a mod this feels very official!^ ^

Love that distorted bassline!
This really got some big half life 1 vibe to it and i love it
I seriously love how the drums turned out in this track.
One time I walked into one of those massive firefights and saw a large number of alien grunts for the first time. I immediately went into cover and was like "I'm not supposed to be here. There's gotta be a way out." and then I looked at my weapon toolbar and went "Wait, I have a rocket launcher. I _am_ supposed to be here!" then went out and blasted them all.
The music that gets me excited the most. Gordon's crowbar sounds also remind me of Terminator music :D
I was listening to this while I drew the Black Mesa logo out of boredom. Awesome
