    Supreme Commander Leonard has doomed the earth since day one, Admiral Hunter should never leave earth.

    • @PointReflex
      @PointReflex 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The guilt is in Excedore who was convinced that no more attacks would be directed to the earth, from that point he got the idea to grab all the weapons aviable and stock them in the SDF-3 leaving the earth with barely any significant defense. Leonard himself told to excedore the futility of this manover and how he would be left with a barren army in order to defend the planet.
      In this series Leonard is a brutal commander yet there is an origin for his madness.

      @@PointReflex Agree, Leonard is a hard no B.S. commander, but even with the sdf3 and the rest of the fleet, Earth would of gotten trashed, those motherships are massive compared to the puny sdf3 which was the biggest earth had then. At least they had a chance to regroup outside of the system and rally against the invid which were far, far inferior to the masters in comparison.

    The true tragedy of the Second Robotech War is it didn't really have to happen. Had the Pioneer mission not been launched over six years earlier then the United Earth Government would've had far more effective support, not to mention the means in which each opposing fleet traveled ensured they wouldn't cross paths. Unfortunately the REF had no way of knowing the Masters were already heading to Earth at impulse speed and they'd completely miss each other due to the SDF-3 taking its fleet to Tirol with a space fold.
    Then when the Robotech Masters do get to Earth the entire conflict kicks off due to misunderstandings on both sides, understandable paranoia on Earth's side, plus maddening desperation, lack of battle experience, and gradually dwindling ethics on the Masters' side.

    this confused me....they call this RObotech but...where are the Veritechs? it boggles my mind that the Earth Defense Force would abandon such a versitile machinery. Why would they even consider fixed wing fighters anymore?

    • @levioch
      @levioch 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There is actually a good explanation, remember the expeditionary force was not only the SDF-3 but a sizeable fleet that took all the best equipment and most of the protoculture left to face off against the Masters including the captured Zentraedi factory satelite. Thus the Southern Cross had to rebuild quickly and most vehicles had a conventional powerplant instead of a protoculture powerplant. The Southern Cross did not expect an alien invasion, its function was to put down insurrections like the zentraedi malcontents. That is why they went with fixed wing aircraft much easier to make, and cheapened out on the veritechs that they did have, like the logan, which looks like a cheap mass produced knock off of the veritech. Remember this is post holocaust earth so mass producing complicated veritechs probably wasnt viable.

    • @BrooklynRedLeg
      @BrooklynRedLeg 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Ummm, the Earth is still using Veritechs in the 2nd Robotech War: the VF-5 Sylphide, VFA-8 Logan and VFH-10 Ajax. They are, in fact, far more advanced Veritechs than the VF-1 Valkyrie, considering all 3 have predominantly switched to Beam Cannons over the slug-thrower GU-11 and nose/head lasers of the VF-1 Valkyrie.

    • @BrooklynRedLeg

      @@levioch - "Thus the Southern Cross had to rebuild quickly and most vehicles had a conventional powerplant instead of a protoculture powerplant."
      Sorry, that is not the Tv series. That is the novelizations. All post-1st Robotech War mecha exclusively use Protoculture. Hell, the UEG is sitting on a gigantic stockpile of it. The Narrator and Scott's commander in eps. #60 The Invid Invasion specifically say it was the buildup of active Protoculture during the final battle of the 2nd Robotech War, so eps. #50 Triumviate to eps. #60 Catastrophe, that draws the Invid to the Earth.
      "That is why they went with fixed wing aircraft much easier to make, and cheapened out on the veritechs that they did have, like the logan, which looks like a cheap mass produced knock off of the veritech."
      Looks have absolutely zero to do with capabilities. Logans and Ajax are shown taking multiple hits from enemy mecha before blowing up compared to VF-1 Valkyries taking 1-2 hits before exploding. There was a radical increase in the Earth's armor capacity following the 1st Robotech War.

    • @levioch
      @levioch 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@BrooklynRedLeg Oh, I would need to rewatch that episode, see how it fits in. And I never thought about the durability and sturdiness of the Southern Cross, you are absolutely right. Considering the Bioroids Drum gun should be more powerful than the standard regult particle cannons. Those valkyres were delicate, overly complex and needed a lot of maintenance compared to their later counterparts.

      I don't know your knowledge on this series. But Carl Macek combined different mechs anime from Tatsunoko to meet American syndication standards for a minimum 65 episode run, although Robotech has 85 episodes... fulfilling weekday syndication requirements.
      In the story, Rick Hunter and company took most of the machinery leaving the earth practically defenseless. But in the 3rd saga they seem to have veriteche reminiscent to the 1st saga.

      Hyperspace Fold Drives don't work that way. They work on an entirely different principle compared to Star Wars FTL. About the closest you could do is get part of the enemy ship in your Fold Sphere Bubble, then jump. But this has the problem of not ensuring that the enemy won't take evasive maneuvers once they've figured out what your going to do, or tear your ship apart with weapon fire.
