• The War of 1812 - Behi...
The War of 1812, sometimes seen as a second war of independence for the US, is often overlooked. But here I do my best to simplify it for you and explain its importance! From Impressment, the Quasi-War with the French, the war with Tecumseh's confederation, the Burning of Washington, and the creation of the American National Anthem, this video covers it all! Let me know your thoughts!

@@Randohandle55748 thank you, it took me a long time to draw!
love the video why is join the navy backwards.
@@ThingsICareAboutyo, White House lore is that for decades for it became the official name that’s what everyone already called it, so Teddy was like ain’t just call it that officially
You like to talk about Native genocide huh? How about next episode you explore the Chilean colonialism over Patagonia huh?
Yo your channel started of with oversimplified inspired videos but now you’ve grown into your own thing which is AWESOME
Better than oversimplified as they state facts instead of silly jokes, while still being funny
@@Dill_Dude9211when does oversimplified lie bro he just makes a lotta jokes
I miss the oversimplified characters. We all know oversimplified barely makes videos anymore and is stuck with the Punic war series that a lot of people are tired of already.
Not true imo. It seems to me that it is the other way around. Was more unique and now isnt.
And he isn't like other youtubers blinded by American and west propaganda
27:06 You're Chilean? I've been enjoying your content without realizing you were one of our brothers. Congrats on your success, keep it up!
I always thought that @ThingsICareAbout is German. Now I hope that one day I'll see episode about South American Wars of Independence here.
@@maced_ Chile has a large Germanic influence to it. He might be German-Chilean.
@@declanfeeney7004 He is. Used to have a reaction channel. He's a German Chilean physicist.
i aint ever hear of a chilean with that accent lol definitely thought he was german, as in, from germany and speaks german lol. Chileans usually have a typical hispanic accent. very interesting
¡Long live Salvador Allende!
The French ships being shaped like baguettes was a nice touch.
Longtime watcher of this channel, first-time commenter. But I learned more about the War of 1812 from this video than I ever did in any of my school history classes. And I was born and raised in Buffalo, THE major city of the Niagara region. I also made many visits to Fort Erie and Fort Niagara growing up, and saw battle recreations. So that's saying something, because elementary history classes there do put a little bit of focus onto the War of 1812. But most of us have a hard time remembering why it started or what happened. And lord knows they tend to omit the parts about us trying to invade Canada.
As it happens, not only was this video very detailed, I also found it very fair and even-handed.
it isn't even minded at all. he left out some major events and context to why things went down the way they did. If you are interested in this topic please do your own research into it. From down playing American war justification to down playing the New England suggestion crisis in the beginning of the war to completely leaving out the burning of Buffalo carried out by Native American and English forces which the predates the American burnings in the Toronto area by weeks.also he up-played the New England crisis after it would have been put down and the english had invaded what is now Maine which kinda brought New Englanders back in the fold to repel that invasion. also New England thought about succession for a second and quickly realized it would hurt them more then anything and they wouldn't make it by themselves. also a point should be made that succession talks where biggest in Connecticut and not New Hampshire. The actual state that has the right to succeed and that the rest of the New England states to get on board even more so then Massachusetts. If they wanted any sort of legitimacy. BTW it has that right due to them being the last state need to ratify the Constitution. they end up with the right of succession due to them ratifying it a day before New York though New York got their the day before with the vote needed, plus they have the coolest slogan... "Live Free or Die" which is a quote from General John Stark. “Live Free or Die; Death Is Not The Worst of Evils”. he sent this in a message to his men when he couldn't make it to the reunion for the Battle of Bennington in 1809 due to old age. the guy is an absolute legend where I am from. but anyway if you are interested in this topic please do your own research. this video came off as a bash America piece to me much like some of his other videos. some things he is dead on about and other things he flat out leaves out. much like his video on the Korean War where he completely leaves out atrocities committed by North Korean forces even down playing them, while majorly up playing atrocities committed by the South Korean government and US occupation. in my view he is biased toward Eastern Ideology and doesn't fairly or accurately present the facts to these conflicts. He misses much of the context from the western perspective or even the perception of the time. something that kinda offended me as a inhabitant of New England. also the blockade wasn't that effective was there wasn't much down in the Gulf of Mexico which is why the british attacked New Orleans. Strategically this is a nice play as it cuts the last vector of supply and trade to the US. unfortunately at that point Colonel Jackson stopped them cold and routed them.I say unfortunately because I'm not a Jackson fan. after this he gets promoted to General invades Florida during peace time and slaughters the Seminole tribe. after that he really starts planting seeds of Southern Succession and instigating the civil war while President. Well he did kill the british banking system in the US and helped pave the way for the US banking system to be set up... so that is one good thing he did in retrospect. Matter of fact one of his last quotes before his death and one of his most famous. when asked what his greatest accomplishment was he said "I killed the banks." also I've never seen a documentary about the War of 1812 where the invasion of Canada was omitted. Are you thinking about the Revolutionary War? there is an invasion of Canada in that war which was more successful but largely forgotten due the failure to seize Montreal and the heroics of Benedict Arnold in the capture of Toronto. most documentaries I've seen and accounts I've read on 1812 depict the Canadian front as being rather bloody and brutal on both sides not just on the American side of that front. he kinda left out what the British and Native American forces did to build up to the atrocity the Americans did. by conveniently leaving out the atrocities committed by the Natives and British. while we where invading the lakes Region of Canada the british forces where raiding and burning US settlements while the natives would come in and slaughter every man, woman, and child all over the southern shore of Lake Erie which is often sited as what brought New England back to the "Union fold". that and the invasion of what is now Maine when that happened I can imagine most of New Hampshire screaming "Live Free or Die!" as a rallying cry to throw them out. more so when they tried to actually invade northern New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York through Lake Champlain. plus they underestimated Champy there on that one... LOL I had to make fun of that stupid Champy the Monster of Lake Champlain gag that Vermont started.🤣🤣🤣
You know... it'd be really cool to have the hussite wars, they are unknown, but they are really cool.
Feature History did a great video on it - damn I miss his videos so much th-cam.com/video/jHJHtvMcBKA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=18TjcmLAgI5tnUIw
CZECH MENTIONED RAHHHH
Finally a smooth Animation
That's great improve mate 👍
Oh, my... this conflict was so much more messy than I thought it was. Glad to hear multiple sides of the battle as someone who isn't American or Canadian (I usually hear the American side). Thank you very much for this video!
Really this war is never talked about here
TBH, what I remember from my elementary school history about this war was just the torching of DC, the victories of the US fleet at sea, and the battle of New Orleans. It was a two year war but covered very quickly. We spent more time covering the Mexican-American war, I suppose because it was more significant in the formation of the nation.
This is awesome! Welcome back Tica! Glad to have this with breakfast
Im not even American, but the part with about the siege of baltimore.. it made me shed a tear🥹🥹🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅
Lol
Same
As a baltimorean, I forget about the battle all the time
My favorite of your videos so far, for sure. Lots of good laughs and nice to see an unbiased take on this weirdly contentious topic.
Oversimplified's got major competition, keep up the great work!
I wouldn’t say competition, id say a partner
@@nursestoyland lol u r out of ur fucking mind....
@@nursestoylandI prefer competition. Maybe it'll cause the episodes to churn out faster instead of waiting a year. Having two channels is better than one.
If he works on his vocal delivery, Comedic timing and cadence...maybe. Oversimplified has a much more engaging line read style. These videos are not bad at all though but OS is in his own league.
I tip my hat to you your humor has gone to new heights.
Compared to your other videos this is one is pretty unbiased towards both sides and accurate good job!
Sadly not the case. It ignores a ton of context before the war including the justification of the war and the burnings by the Indians that happened before the burnings mentioned in the video.
@@benpage11 That's because they weren't relevant to the war.
The indian wars were a separate fight, and the use of the indians by the British was simply a footnote in this war.
Unless you're gonna make some absurdly stupid argument like "the indians deserved what happened to them", in which case that's so incredibly and comically dumb it's not worth engaging with. The indians were waging a war against an ongoing invasion and genocide. Atrocities happened, done by indians and to indians, because it was a genocidal war of replacement.
As a Canadian, I really appreciate this video. Funny and informative as always!
I love the animation style and the jokes certainly hit the right spot!
34:51 I got goosebumps from that - woohoo Francis Scott Key!
This war was wild...awesome video!
3:24 bro flamed himself. You ain't even bad though
The part where you fused Key's observation with the American national anthem was awe-inspiring
fun fact, the building where the peace treaty for the war of 1812 was signed is now a clothing store
That's... rather undignified. One of the most important and yet most overlooked wars in American history ended there, and now it sells T-shirts.
ngl, i think your animation is somewhat better than oversimplified, keep up the good work!
Finally, some quality content that's not only fun and pleasant to watch but also super educational!
I love the oversimplified vibes you bring, along with your own unique touches.
You've quickly become one of my favorite history channels on TH-cam.
Keep up the awesome work!
"IN 1814 WE TOOK A LIL' TRIP, ALONG WITH COLONEL JACKSON DOWN THE MIGHTY MISSISIP"
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans and we met the bloody British in the town of New Orleans
36:38 who all noticed that the date for the treaty of Ghent is 1914 and not 1814
Ah yes the war of 1914, where british tanks took control of New Orleans.
Love this channel and the humor. Keep moving forward. We are behind you!
Dude, how could you leave out Capt. Jean Lafitte and his pirates!? They were pivotal to the Battle of New Orleans!!!
Things I Love is underrated! I love the long videos!
Very good at drawing maps, keeping making good vibes.
24:33 I can’t believe you just completely glossed over one of the most badass battles of the entire war. Stoney Creek was a master class in psychological warfare.
0:40 the comparison between the early USA and a young adult is funny I don’t know why
I love the animation, the history and the video. Awesome video. Please keep it up.
Watching you grow from your Oversimplified era was impressive.
Really enjoy these videos, much prefer them to the oversimplied ones as they're less silly but pack a lot in them with solid animations and narration.
Only mistake is the British flag keeps ending up upside down, like on the ships at 10:27 or the army at 37:15.
Look forward to the next one!
I'm not entirely sure if the "Trafalgar" pronouncation relaxed my ears or completely battered them 💀
It’s actually correct

Keep at it, you're doing great and people will quickly know it!
9:49 they weren’t republicans. The Republican party was made in 1854. And it’s essential to continue calling them Democratic-Republicans to continue to differentiate the parties.
I noticed that too. Small mistakes can creep into a long video, but he did mention the "Democratic Republic" party earlier, so it's a strange miss.
I've been in his live streams. He's a progressive from Chile. He dislikes the right wing and calls Trump "far right". He's a good guy but has TDS
I have been watching your vibes since the German Revolution, I love how your vibes have improved throughout the months.

In 1814 we took a little trip,
Along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip'
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans
And we caught the Bloody British in our town of New Orleans.
Chorus:
We fired our guns and the British kept a'comin'
There wasn't as many as there was a while ago.
We fired once more and they began a-runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.
We looked down the river and we see'd the British come,
There musta been a hundred of 'em beating on the drum,
They stepped so high, and they made the bugles ring,
And we stood beside our cotton bales and didn't say a thing.
(Chorus)
Ol' Hick'ry said we can take 'em by suprise
If we didn't fire our muskets till we looked 'em in the eyes,
We held our fire till we see'd their faces well,
And we opened up our guns and really gave them hell.
(Chorus)
Yeah they ran through the biers and they ran through the brambles,
They ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go.
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em,
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.
We fired our guns till the barrel melted down,
So we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round.
We filled him up with bullets and powdered his behind,
And when we touched the powder off the gator lost his mind.
We fired our guns and the British kept a'comin'
There wasn't as many as there was a while ago.
We fired once more and they began a-runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.
Yeah they ran through the biers and they ran through the brambles,
They ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go.
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em,
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico!
“Force march!”

I really like your work into these videos like they make me entertained ❤
This video was amazing! 🤯 I've never seen the War of 1812 explained in so much detail! 😂 The part where the Americans were all like "Give me liberty or give me death" was hilarious! 🤣🤣🤣
And those animated maps were awesome! 🌎 Especially where you showed how Britain and France were blockading each other! 🚢💥
One question: Why did America even want this war? 🤔 I mean, they just became independent! 😜
Can't wait for your next videos! 💪
The battle of Lundy's Lane would have been a bloodbath for the Americans but it was Major General Winfield Scott (then a brigadier general) led a heroic charge that caused the stalemate, Scott was badly injured during the fight. The guy was great and sharp until the civil war. One of the greatest generals in US history period
I really don't like American history but you're keeping it so much fun i might learn something, ty
Did not know that the war of 1812 inspired the American National Anthem, great job!

I care to disagree.
agree to disagree, but his channel is still really good
I think even he would agree to disagree, but I'm serious. This guy straight up yields alot more potential. Give him time.
@@RiffArchives meny of his videos seem to have an eastern skew to it. I understand when oversimplifying history can skew it one way or another... I just find it disingenuous to talk about the atrocities committed by American forces but don't by the other side... He did this in his Korean War video too. He needs provide context the americans were not the only ones burning cities the natives and british forces would do the same thing to American cities in that area. Also the New England crisis there were riots in Connecticut and they wanted to succeed but the two states that they needed to actually succeed. New Hampshire (has the right to succeed) and Massachusetts (biggest port Boston would probably become the capital or Concord in NH) they looked into it during the first year of the war and quickly saw that they wouldn't make it a year...

This is mean but hilarious
Oh how the British are always everywhere in history, Animator here, hope you all enjoyed!
I guarentee you it would of been the Chinese a thousand years before since they invented the compass and had a massive fleet, but refuse to colonize as they saw lands away from China as inferior and less important.
I’m so impressed by this video, I learned a new word today😮
Erie Pennsylvania actually has a replica of the ships Perrie commanded in the bay. They used salvaged peices of the orginal for parts of the replica. Also if you head towards the beaches you can find Perrie Point that is where the ships were finished in construction. Also used to spend my summers in a small town that was rebuilt after the war and the burning you mentioned after Fort Niagara was reclaimed.
