Love the videos so far!! You’re the man Mark.
Did I miss something... where is the video of how you actually do the plumbing. Got the planning and rules to follow, got the components and then right to examples...?
    THANK YOU

Same here. I still don't know how to actually build the mixing station...

Same here... its like he skipped the most important part of the "Tutorial". Why are there so many tubes coming out of it? What are their use cases?

Been following along with great interest, I used to have a mixing station years ago but didn't have room for it when we moved house, but now that we have recently bought a house I am eager to set one up again. One thing I was criticized about my old design was using a garden hose as they could potentially be toxic. Will be having a much better setup this time and valuing all the different ideas you are showing.

    Great series.
On your setup how do you prevent the saltwater in the line between the pump and your fresh water tank from contaminating the fresh water when you first open the valve? Isn't all of the water in the line going to backflow until you turn the pump on?
Wanting to know because I am building mine now😊

I like the aluminum stand with the drip tray where can I find one or get one made? I am building myself a mixing station in my garage and would like a set up like that.

Usually you can get the stands made locally. The drip tray is from planet Aquariums.

I'm about to copy this build and I ran into something that gave me pause. In this video, you used a water blaster 5000 and you state it needed to push 12 feet up and 60 feet out. This attracted me because this is my exact situation.
However, when going to purchase the water blaster 5000, it says "this pump is not ideal for second floor applications". I'm wondering if they're saying that because as a return pump it's not good for 2nd floor applications and will have a negligible impact on using it for moving salt water and ATO water. Obviously, I'm not expecting 1,300 GPH for a water change/ATO with 11 feet of head but I wanted to make absolutely sure this pump is appropriate before I drop $300.
When I click the link for the pump in the description, it doesn't appear to be the same pump, maybe an updated version?

What PVC Schedule and size did you use on your client's setup? Ball value size and thread/slip? Other say 3/4" is common: but your video appears to be Schedule 80 and 1". I know most pumps are 1" threaded. I like your setup.

my concern is in regarding the water that sits in the garden hose. Wont this water go stagnate and also take on a taint from the hose? I'm building a station in a space that is not very accessible and wonder how to best to deal with this standing water?
    Thanks for the advise.

Yeah I have 55g with 20 long sump freshwater that I’m gonna make it saltwater. Don’t have much room for more tanks.

Another great vid! Wait I thought Green Garden hoses leach vs Marine/RV hoses and silicone tubing?

    • @Saltwateraquariumdotcom
      @Saltwateraquariumdotcom  5 ปีที่แล้ว

MYTH BUSTED: Yea they can harm the water if exposed for long periods of time. If you think about it in this application water only really comes in contact with the hose lining for a very short period of time. Almost no chance to contaminate it. I wouldn't use it for my tank plumbing, but if your on a budget and need to use garden hose for short periods of time it's fine.

All I was saying is I would not recommend even taking a chance. I know Brad is a big DIY guy, but if we all know that there are TOXIC chemicals found in gardening hoses, so why would you even take that risk, even if it is for your frag tank. We all know that they can leach phthalates and BPA into the water which not good for humans let alone SPS Corals and Fish! Many thanks, Ken for selecting Mr. Saltwater for your new podcast!! Keep up the good work with the Videos, love them.

Or just the plastic fittings themselves to make my own garden hoses? Can't find either. Been using garden hoses with brass fittings, they're starting to corrode with salt water.

Not sure why you act like factory metal garden hose fittings are ok. People will watch this and think its reef safe. You should have said to get drinking water garden hoses and cut off all metal fittings and replace them with plastic ones.
