What's crazy about this compilation is that so many of these shots were in the clutch with the time running out, while averaging only 1.7 3PA per game.
Yes because those were the times were the coach will allow you Since it was considered a low percentage shot. Back Then if you were 10 points behind in last 2 minutes nobody shot 3's...drive and get fouled was the strategy.
The game wasn’t about shooting 3’s back then. It was about tearing down the defense and being aggressive towards the rim something that no one is better at then Mike. If he played in today’s game he would absolutely have no problem shooting 3’s at a high percentage. His best talent wasn’t the mid range. His best talent is becoming the best at whatever he sets his mind to.
MJ has many parts of his game that IMO are the best of all time. One is his footwork/balance. Look at how he squares up to the basket regardless of time/situation and gets his legs into each shot with perfect form - it's unreal. He really did have the best fundamentals we've seen - his footwork, handling, passing, post-game, speed, jumping, flexibility, touch, defense + IQ etc all were unreal. People don't realize just how rare that is to have that combo. We think we'll see someone that dominant, but it's so damned hard to be that good at everything. He simply dominated everyone.
Durning the first 3-peat, when MJ was in his absolute prime, he was shooting over 38,5% from the 3 point line in the Play-Offs, where it matters the most. That tells you a lot about his efficiency...
He made 55 in 58 playoff games over three seasons. That's not even 1 three per game. 0.9. LeBron and Durant can make 40 in one playoff. Curry can make 90. Jordan cannot compare to modern three point shooters - he's just not in their league and he doesn't have the credentials to enter.
Valentine Xavier so by your logic these player don’t have the credential for anything other than 3 since Jordan still out scored than in the playoff average.
Look at how many he hit late clock. He really wasn't being cocky when he said he didn't need to shoot that shot much. When he did need to shoot it, it looks like he was capable of hitting some deep range threes heavily contested. Wow.
MJ's 3p% actually increases in the playoffs, even w/o the seasons when the arc was shortened. The thing is, he wanted to distinguish himself from Bird & Magic, so he worked more on what they weren't known for: defense (ex: 200+ steals & 100+ blocks in a season, twice in a row). Bird was famous for his 3pt shooting while Magic was known for his passing. It's no coincidence that these are the two most criticized facets of MJ's game. Yet in '89 & '90, he set out to prove that he could've gone those routes if he wanted to. He averaged 8.0 apg (w/ 8.0 rpg) in the former and shot .376 from long range (Bird's career average) in the latter. By comparison, Kobe & LeBron shot a higher 3p% only once & twice respectively in their careers so far. That being said, MJ really shouldn't have tried to compete in the 3pt contest immediately after only half a season of shooting well from behind the arc. It would've been like Bird entering the slam dunk contest. lol! The fact is, the 80's/90's Bulls never had a good inside presence on offense. So MJ took it upon himself to provide the high-percentage shots.
"The fact is, the 80's/90's Bulls never had a good inside presence on offense." And this was the ERA of the dominant 7 footer. When almost every team had at least a GOOD big man, as you say, an inside presence on offense, on their team. Very true. Great comment. I'm glad you added "on offense" cause I was about to go off on a Dennis Rodman rant, lmao.
Not bad for a guy with "NO RANGE" and for a player who "NEVER MADE TOUGH 3s"....Whenever MJ needed to make a 3 he did ESPECIALLY IN CLUTCH SITUATIONS!!!!!
it seems he mostly took them in the clutch, the ones in this video are almost exclusively as the clock is winding down, game clock or shot clock, or toward the end of the game which means they were tougher shots in general and his percentage starts to make sense when you factor in the difficult spots he took them in.
They moved the line in for 3 seasons only. The seasons were 94/95, 95/96 and 96/97. All seasons prior and after the ones I listed above were and are at current 3pt measurements.
Here's another little known fact about MJ's 3-point shooting ability. MJ 's career high for threes made and attempted in a single playoff run is 28 of 72 @ 39 percent (rounded up from .389) during the '93 playoffs. That's a very good percentage even by today's standards. It should also be noted that the 3pt line that year was not shortened yet. Another interesting fact is that number of 28 threes made beats Dirk Nowitski's career high of 3pt makes in a single playoff run @ 27 of 61 @ 44 percent. Even though MJ shot 5 percent lower, it still shows what he was capable of doing at the 3pt line when he attempted more.
Nice compilation. People always say mj couldnt shoot threes but in this video most of the threes he made are in the clutch, end of quarters, shot clock running down etc when there is alot of pressure and still shoots 33 percent from threes in his career.
That's true - people forget about how much Michael improved his 3-point game in between his 5th and 6th season in the league - he was shooting no better than 18% durning his first 4 years with the Bulls, then he went to 28% the next year and shooting 37,5% of his 3-pointers by 1989-1990 season. If he would continue to work on his 3-point game, there's no doubt he would be a 37% shooter from that spot durning his career easy. But he chose to relly on his post game and driving to the basket more than standing on the 3-point line and just shoot from outside.
and in almost 200 games in the play offs michael jordan averaged better 3 points % than larry bird, maybe the greatest shooter ever... and im not talking about 1,2 5 or 10 games..im talking about almost 200 games, the most important games of the year against the better teams...
Look how many of his 3s were at the buzzer, end of quarter/half/game/shot clock. Those are all clutch shots and at least a bit rushed. If 3 point shooting was a focus in his day he definitely would have excelled at it, and probably averaged a few more points per game as a result.
Yes, he was. Michael got read mad @ Jerry Krause for trading Oakley for Carthwright later on... I believe it was in after the 1988 season. I've read somewhere that they traded Oakley when MJ was watching Tyson fight and he was pissed off they didn't told him before, that they will send Oak to NY.
Jordan played in modern era damn i think he known in his 3 point shooting not only mid range that he can fades away both sides and a little bit on dunks and he can score 80-100 multiple times or if not his assists maybe higher because of double team or triple team and in today's era most of the big man can shoot
Once MJ became a three point shooter in the late 80s, his career 3 point percentage was about 36%, well above NBA average. I'm not counting early in his career or with the Wizards when his knees were gone. He is indeed one of the best pure shooters ever.
F. Tyler Peck michael in his prime and first three peat was almost 40% from three. Hes very underrated at three. I myself didnt know he had steph curry range and also hit fade away threes like kobe as often as he did

It's interesting that most of these shots that Jordan took were only a last option when an offensive play broke down or the defense of the other team did a good job and there were only seconds left on the shot clock. These were not set 3 point plays or Jordan looking or planning to hit a 3 point shot. Many were last second shots of a quarter or half. That in itself is pretty amazing though. Can you imagine if Jordan had the mentality of wanting to shoot more 3 pointers in a game as a strategy? He had a great shooting touch.
Jordan so strong with double clutch 3's. Kobe has more range but Jordan better from 15-19 feet. Ppl just shoot more 3pters today than yesterday. It's seen more of a weapon. But look at the stats. 33.5% Kobe to 32.7% MJ. 4800+ attempts Kobe to 1700+ for MJ. wow. I'd say MJ's 3 is on par with Kobe.
I don't think Kobe has more range on his shot because Michael was able to shoot from the same spots way behing the 3pt line - he just wasen't doin' it that often, that's it. They got the same range but they game is different - MJ played closer to the rim and picked his jumpshot spots very carefully, that's why he was so efficient - Bean on the other hand is known for jocking waaay too many tough shots, which naturally lower's his FG% and his efficiency - even Phil Jackson wrote about it in his book.
Mietek23 Fair enough. Yeah, Phil said KB makes more high-difficulty job like 35ft jumpers. MJ was able to find easier shots. Some shots the defender couldnt even get a hand up or in his face. My other pt is KB put up more than 2X so he's gonna have more hi-light type 3's. MJ > KB
just noticed that like Mj I feel a lot more comfortable knocking down the three when my knees buckle and make contact. It's the closest you get from 3 feeling comfortable shooting that shot if you're used to shooting the mid range fadeaway J.

Are you speculating or did you actually see Jordan play. It's well documented Jordan didn't take that many threes and Kobe's only better by percentage points and has taken weigh more threes. Kobe is not a better 3 point shooter than Jordan in the playoffs, talk about that when it counts.
Id like to know jordans percentage on his "in front of goal" 3 attempts throughout his career. he seemed to always make that shot when he took it...not so good from the corner 3 or slight arc.
To put it in perspective Reggie Miller is just getting passed up in three pointers after all these years and he only averaged 4 attempts per game and is second best in history. The game wasnt about 3's jordan averaged one attempt per game.
in this you can see he hit way tougher clutch shots than kobe... I never seen kobe do some of them things I just saw from jordan with like 4 or 5 halfcourt buzzer beaters
I ain't taking away anything from the G.O.A.T cause he is the best but differing his 3 point shot game from Kobe's a lot different. Kobe Bryant was definitely a better shooter.

To put it in perspective Reggie Miller is just getting passed up in three pointers after all these years and he only averaged 4 attempts per game and is second best in history. The game wasnt about 3's jordan averaged one attempt per game.
1:50 try telling that to a nba player today
MJ is really a 3 point threat but he is not better than his teammate Steve Kerr when it comes to hitting 3s consistently.
underclassdamnriot lol
Jordan said in the video that wasn't trying to excel at shooting because he didn't want to take away from his game so that's he didn't shoot many 3's
Where was 4:14 at?
Utah
@@mrymidonproductions5154 How bout 4:10. The one before that on the line. What team was that in the blue. Couldnt tell..
in this you can see he hit way tougher clutch shots than kobe... I never seen kobe do some of them things I just saw from jordan with like 4 or 5 halfcourt buzzer beaters
Now make a video showing only the 3 pointers he missed.
How bout we make a compilation of LeBron air balling free throws ?
TELL THE TRUTH......
that i do it like Jordan with Chicago forever and ever..barry aka Hustle..Lord willing God willing..Hustle
He made 6 threes against Blazers, only one of em were contested😂 that sorry ass Blazers team,no wonder Uncle Clyde left hahaha
Did you see the rest of the footage ?
Here's the thing. Reggie Miller will destroy MJ when it comes to hitting 3s but MJ destroys Miller as an overall player haha
true
They say mj can not say 3 point
Black jesus is the best that ever did it
this is not HD. lol
6:46
Steph Curry who?
Nobody. Flight: Jordan has been watching Curry
Steph Curry who? haha
Don't.. just don't this is ametuer compared to Stephen Curry not even Larry Bird is a better 3pt shooter than curry
I ain't taking away anything from the G.O.A.T cause he is the best but differing his 3 point shot game from Kobe's a lot different. Kobe Bryant was definitely a better shooter.

Not at all
If I were to have MJ play in today’s era I want him to shoot more 3s and Deep 3s, be a more pinpoint passer and have more stats in the top 20.s.
You do realize he had no problem shooting the 3 even in the 90's right? Like you can rewatch the games we have youtube and ESPN it's not like they weren't recorded
@@leaveemfaceless9629 MORE attempts 😉
@@hastensavoir7782 bruh stop the bullshit. Do you even understand why he was so dominant during his Era? Obvious you can't tell what players can actually play you would be a terrible scout. Mike would of worked on the 3 like he did mid range if that were the playing style at the time. Yall delusional asf and it's annoying
Jordan greatest player of all time uncontested ,also greatest ball hog of all time too😂
14:40 is fake,if you stop video in right time you can see wrong direction of ball
Flight: Where’s Curry?
Stephen Curry better than Jordan at 3pt range😮
but is Stephen curry better than Jordan in the finals???
no one will be better than Jordan in a long time :L
+Alphonsus LFA L
+Patrick Robertson
it's not even hard to see you're a fuck head gsw fan since 2015 smh.
all you gsw fans hold the biggest L, and the golden L has been wrapped around the unanimous mvp, curry's neck :L
+Alphonsus LFA dude i'm not even a golden state fan
+EveryDayIsAGoodDay no excuse tho Steph is better from 3
You don't include 3s in every end of 24 sec as clutch shot.. If you do, KB, Harden, Curry, Dirk, etc got a thousand each.. It's just onrdinary minute in the office for them. But it is a miracle for all hail great king MJ.. Damn he finally made few 3s.. Haha
Jordan rarely shot 3's, a much higher percentage of Jordan's 3's were of this nature vs. those other clowns.
@@bwink23 Yah it's like saying a guy is a vampire killer cause he killed just one vampire..😁.. MJ is just a 2 point guy.. And he knows it
@@semi5alpha As a 2-point guy he's the greatest scorer in NBA history so who cares.
@@bwink23 Greatest scorer?? Paid media even say 'Assassin'! Haha! Assassins hit from afar not from point blank.. Media driven thought, I say..
@@semi5alpha Nope. Greatest scorer easy
He can drain all of those three’s but was absolute trash in the three point contest
KD once scored 6 points in the 3 point contest, just 1 point above MJ score.
Kyrie level finish mid range like kd dunk package like ja/Vince mix 3 pt like lebron (with more dazzle dazzle) and defense that exceeds kawhis 🥴🥴🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ and above average assist and rebounds!!! If that doesn’t scream goat idk what does
If he shot 10-15 3s a game I honestly think he’d be a top 20-30 3 pt shooter of all time and that’s crazy when you think about it bc Trae, dame, kyrie, and so many more are not even top 20 and.....nvm you get my point
cap
WTF. Lol Jordan is bad 3points. And now you edit almost all 3points of Jordan??? All shot lol
Ash Rafael you’re English is horrible
Yeah, they also edited the commentary and crowd noise.
