      Funny ! When I travel to Europe I often pass through quicker than my French wife. Also the EU is not the same as Europe. The EU is a smaller political dictatorship, Europe is a vast continent.

As your wife is French (which I doubt) I believe you are entitled to EU citizenship, it might be in your interests to pursue this right as it may save you difficulties in the future.

      The majority of Europe is NOT in the EU the largest part is outside. My wife is most definitely French, but I don't want French citizenship I already have British citizenship so it would be of no use to me. Especially as with the rise of anti EU sentiment in France and Le Pen the most likely French President I doubt whether France would remain in the EU either along with many other countries now desperate to follow Britains lead and leave.

      @@johnbrereton5229 There are 43 sovereign states in Europe or 41 if you exclude rogue states like Russia and Belarus, out of these 41 states 27 are already EU members with a further 10 either applicant countries or countries who immediately desire membership that makes 37 out of 41 European nations either in the EU or wanting to be in the EU, Iceland and Norway will ultimately join the EU as well when conditions are right for them to do so so that now takes our total to 39 out of 41 it is even possible that Switzerland and the UK may join at some point making a total of 41 European countries that are either EU members, will be members or potential members.
      There is no EU country even contemplating leaving the Union no matter how much this wet dream brings pleasure to brexiteers. In the unlikely event that Le Pen comes to power in France she has stated clearly and included in her policy for Government that France will remain in the EU and Maloney who is in power in Italy has no intention of leaving the EU and neither do the very right wing Governments of Poland in Hungary. The disaster that brexit is and the war in Ukraine have clearly shown that the only future for Europe is through collective cooperation and the EU excels at that.
      You need to reassess your views because you are clearly out of touch and I still do not believe that you have a French wife.

      Over the centuries many countries have come and gone in Europe, but there are currently 50 countries in Europe not 41 as you claim and as I said previously they only represent a smaller part of the European continent. Also you are deluded if you think that the UK would ever willingly rejoin your Recession hit dictatorship. Heath had to break our Constitution to take us in illegally in 1972, because public opinion was 3 to 1 against joining. Now after 50 years we are finally free and I doubt we will be the last to leave. With a convicted fraudster as the head of your Central Bank and an on going fraud investigation with countless arrests, it's no wonder that the Afd are rising in Germany and one of their policies is to dismantle the EU.
      Hopefully before the recession hit EU finally bits the dust due to it's fake currency that defies logic.
      Also dissatisfaction in Poland, Hungary, Italy, Spain etc is real. However I don't give a flying fig if you doubt my wife is French, only an idiot would dispute it, but I know she is and in any case, you have already shown you are a stranger to the truth and reality.

      @Garcwyn ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@garthtomlinson2570 first of all Germany is not the EU. There are other 26 countries on it. Some of them are thriving. Second of all shrinking by 0.3% and growing by the same amount is absolutely the same thing vis-a-vis what the average man feels. So recession is a technical term that has very little impact on the day to day of the vast majority of people.
      Let me tell you what does have an impact on people’s pockets: inflation. A country can theoretically be marginally growing yet people’s perception is that they are getting poorer due to inflation. Exactly like in the UK. So don’t be fooled by headline numbers.
      The UK has faced four things that no other country in Europe has faced. Draw your own conclusions re the causes:
      - foreign direct investment (fdi) has dropped substantially. It’s no longer the country in Europe that attracts the biggest fdi. And the UK is an economy that requires enormous amounts of capital to function
      - the pound has dropped and has not recovered which fuels inflation and makes large fdi more risky
      - the labour market is disrupted both in availability and price, given the end of free movement of people
      - exports have lagged despite the fact they they’re now cheaper in the international markets given the relative devaluation of sterling
      All of the above are interconnected of course. What’s going on in Germany is circumstantial to energy prices. Once that resolves (and I could agree that nobody knows when) the country will do as well as usual. The UK is facing structural challenges. They are not easy to resolve. No access to the biggest common market on Earth is a structural problem in the same way that a landlocked country is a structural problem. They are a permanent hit to the economy.

    Yes you can apply for dual nationality. However you raise the underlying question of what is nationality to a much higher degree. It becomes who is entitled to vote - local authority voting - general election voting - referenda - votes which may contain constitutional elements. Think the answer to each of these would be different. It is obviously unfair that a person with strong attachments to the EU and UK for example should be able to vote in a referendum questioning the relationship between the UK and the EU. Those whose total commitment to the UK -as displayed by having the right to hold only one passport - are the only ones that can legitimately make that vote. Where you pay your taxes is irrelevant.

      Nothing to do with discrimination. The concept is very simple. When you pay membership fees to be a member of a club, you enjoy the benefits of membership of the club. When you withdraw from membership, in fairness to all the other paying members , you loose the rights that membership gave you. Some British labour under the inexplicable delusion that because they are special, they get to keep the rights of membership even after they have stopped paying. So, nothing to do with discrimination. And to prove this, I am very confident that when the UK decides to withdraw from the Indo-Pacific CPTPP bloc, (and I am sure it is in the joining agreement) the UK will then loose any priveledges membership of that far away block might have given the UK.
