  • DIY Easy Hammock Knot 2.0
Knot Note: This knot is a variation of a Sheet Bend. I invented it, so it doesn't have a name...
The Loop of rope is made with a Double Fisherman's Bend:
    • Double Fisherman's Loop
    • Double Fisherman's Bend
This is the easiest way to make a hammock. Simple, easy and safe.
This video will show you how to make your own DIY hammock, easily, without sewing, and with materials you may already have in your own home.
Here you will learn to make a hammock on the fly. It's intended for a temporary hammock since standard bed sheets tend to rip after a while with use. For a long term hammock, you should use Nylon Fabric, RipStop Nylon is the strongest.
But again, this is for temporary, off-hand use, either for camping, or indoor use.
This hammock should be made with rock climbing grade rope or webbing. See my other videos on the many other ways to make your own DIY Easy Hammock,
It really is quite simple to make one of these Easy Hammocks, even if you don't think you are a handy guy or gal, necessarily...
No need to worry, because this video will easily guide you through the process, step by step.
Of course, this information is for educational purposes only and you take full responsibility for your own actions. I will not be held responsible for any damage or injury resulting from your own interpretation of this video instruction.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It feels goo to know that some people appreciate these videos. I don't post much since I only make videos that are unique and mostly my own ideas. There are so many videos of the same thing already! If it's already been done well, why copy and paste my own version of the video?
Thanks again for taking the time to send me a note.
      Peace.

I used this video to make a hammock in a pinch before a camping trip back in 2010.
The hammock lasted me about four years, and maybe 500 hours of my weight on it before the knot needed to be retied. Simple, fast, effective, safe and best of all none of those cadibaners that can eventually bend over time

I used this tutorial to make up a few hammocks for my kids. I tried a QS sheet and that was ok, but then I tried a painter's light canvas sheet and that worked like a song. It was as half as long again as the sheet and s little wider. I also used a few pieces of nylon webbing instead of rope to do the sheet bend. We used this as a lesson about the difference between the wealth disparity between a second world nation like ours and the poorer third world nations, which was a nice way to discuss these sorts of issues. It was fun and we now have a couple of great hammocks. Thanks for making the tutorial.

Great videos, Ray. I use paracord all the time, but I use two strands together because it stretches. With fairly regular use, I need to replace my cords about every 2-3 years. Otherwise, it's plenty strong. I just set up a little higher, and its fine.

@rayd888 Thanks. I've found a queen size bed sheet and am now using it instead of the ENO Double Nest. My issue with the ENO is that we have a poodle and they have long nails. I was afraid she would poke through and rip it. ENO is now regulated to travel and the sheet is the one in my office. I think the sheet is more comfortable. It is cotton and much softer. It was also cheaper (salvage from closet). I did not have paracord so I bought 400# cord from REI. TNX

I will say this is a very simple idea and I will definitely try this with some ripstop nylon this season. However I tried it with a king size sheet and hit more than one snag. One the sheet wasn't even close to long enough after knots were tied and two the sheet failed catastrophically. But the knots held. I used paracord instead of climbing rope though because it can support the loads at a far lighter (and cheaper) packed weight.

    • @CaptainKnots
      @CaptainKnots  4 ปีที่แล้ว

For that, you need to make Magic Glue by mixing equal parts of Fairy Dust and Unicorn Tears in a bowl made of Atlantean Crystal. Haha!
Seriously, the only damage to walls is a small hole that can easily be filled with spackle and painted over.
The only other rway is to use a Hammock Stand, but they are very bulky and meant to be used outdoors.
