I like to think Jaqen was super proud of Arya. I don’t think he ever planned on her becoming no one. He wanted to help her and train her, but knew she could never fully be a faceless man.
@Flexo actually He can be proud of her but still have the need to stay true and loyal to his religion and his order. She Did fail at her task, and she hadn't been doing what she was supposed to and proved that she couldn't let go of her past and all, so he Had to do Something, or else one of the other Faceless Men would have, so send the waif, but it was probably a test of his, just like everything else. If she passed (ie survived), then he might've felt his duty had been fulfilled and like a lot of others had said, the Many Faced God doesn't care so Arya killing the people on her list just provides more faces for his god. And also, it might've been a test for the waif too, as she had kinda shown that she Also couldn't really let things go and obsessive (in how much she seemed to hate Arya and all). That's my theory anyway :)
I find myself rooting for her about halfway through this season and I'm always like "wait, how did this happened?" I always love to hate Cersei, I enjoy a good bad guy. Not good as in a decent person. Joffrey was annoying and I wanted him dead, Cersei and Ramsey are the kind of bad guys you sort of want to stay around because they are entertaining. They are terrible people, but you know a story needs a "bad guy". It's kind of nice if that someone can also entertain you. With Cersei, I think it's kind of hard for me to criticize her because I have no idea what a world like that would make me become as a woman. I would hope that I would be a good person, but I look at Cersei and I could see myself very easily becoming that angry resentful person because of being a woman and being trapped in that world. Dany and Arya get this strange freedom, as much as you can call it that, but Sansa and Cersei always just seem to be pawns in other people's games. Cersei uses the faith militant as her way to get out of that but just ends up becoming a pawn in the high sparrow's game. She's really not as smart as she thinks she is lol. If Tyrion hadn't of killed Tywin, Cersei would have been forced to marry Loras. The only reason she didn't marry Loras is because of Tyrion. God that must piss her off.
@@iloveyourunclebob As much as I hate Cersei I would definitely hate it even more if she wasn't on this show. Unlike some other characters in which I just wanted/want dead ASAP! Lena Headey is SOOOO GOOD! I can't see anyone else as Cersei Lannister.🤔
Note that Jaime said a bunch of shit . . . that convinced Edmure to surrender so Jaime could keep his oath and take the castle without shedding any Tully blood (other than the Blackfish, who someone else killed outside of Jaime's presence and who probably forced them to kill him). I don't think we can necessarily believe that Jaime actually felt as vicious as he sounded - he was willing to use his bad reputation to convince Edmure that he would do just about anything.
no he wouldnt .... but to explain would have to much of a spoiler .... i also think Jaime threatens people .... but i dont think we would go forward only to proof a point. even season 1 Jaime wouldnt.
Yeah I don't think Jaime has ever really chosen to kill when it wasn't necessary. I don't know what he would have done if Edmure hadn't gone for it, but I doubt it would have been slaughter everyone just for kicks.
Took me a couple watches to realize that. I had initially been kinda peeved that they had done another backslide for Jaime and have him return to being a dick again, but then once I realized I was super impressed. Shows both how much Jaime's grown, and how downright smart he really is. He's far out-performing Tyrion in strategy. ("Call it tactics, not strategy." I'm really not sure, tbh) I initially hated this episode altogether when it aired, but it's growing on me. Aside from the logical leaps in the Arya storyline, there's actually a lot of great scenes. And the foot chase is at least fun, even if Terminator Waif is super cringy.
The waif was clearly jealous and disliked Arya, I’m not sure those feelings are acceptable if you’re “no one”. I believe Jaqen saw that and was satisfied with the outcome
The sparrows are fucking terrible at politics. If they played the long game, they could endlessly exploit the power and authority given to them by Cersei. But instead their first act is to IMPRISON THE QUEEN??? And what is their reasoning exactly for banning trial by combat? They seriously think Cersei is just going to throw herself upon their mercy? When you back someone into a corner, they tend to lash out in crazy ways. The sparrows were put in charge of basically the city, and possibly the kingdom, but instead of -- oh, I don't know -- looking after the poor and destitute, their priority suddenly becomes who the nobles are sleeping with??? Aside from being puritanical dickweeds, they annoy me for being so fucking stupid.
zammmerjammer the sparrows were playing the long game: Cersei is the Queen mother, Tommon is the monarch. Their plan was to get Cersei out of the way so they could control Tommon. They just underestimated Cersei Religious zealots always want a theocracy & when given an inch will take that mile ASAP
@@invisigoth510 But they HAD Cersei out of the way and they WERE controlling Tommen. She was effectively alienated from power and had no supporters either amongst the common people or the other nobles. Their real threat would have come from Margaery and I would definitely believe they were too stupid to see that coming. But what could have possibly given them the notion -- from everything said about her, from what Lancel had told them about her, and from their interactions with her -- that Cersei would simply roll over when backed into a corner? The Sparrows were colossally stupid and simply didn't know how to win gracefully.
@@zammmerjammer I agree with you, there was no reason to attack cersei, she was done basically. (Except for the mountain but that is still just one guy, even if strong, only one.) But i think they have backed themselves into a corner the moment they publicly shamed Cersei and told all the people about the upcoming trial. The people wanted to see how the new rulers dealt with the old sinful rulers. If they would have done things differently from the beginning they could have gone the "mercy" way. But instead they turned it into a projectile and started shooting. Now the people are all looking at them to see how the new justice deals with criminals. Sure cersei wasn't accused of crime but rather braking religious morals. But the people feared and hated her. The sparrows used that hatred, but once the stones started rolling they couldn't stop that any more. They HAD to deal with her somehow, and mercy was not an option. (maybe that was the plan after the trial, to show her mercy for tommens sake. After all she had no power any more. They would have never thought that she had the power to blow them all up. Now as to why they banned the trial by combat. This was the first big trial. Which would show how the new Justice works out. The city is watching, they can't allow her to be in control of the Trial by immediately demanding trial by combat. To claim that the Gods think of her as innocent because the Mountain won, after they publicly shamed her? They couldn't do that. So they publicly pronounced that Trial by Combat is no testimony to the will of the Gods. Otherwise the Gods clearly are on Cerseis side.
Jaime is hard core bluffing. He has a horrible reputation, and while he hates 'the game,' he is actually very smart and knows how it is played, so he uses his reputation to bully Edmure to yield the castle. Jaime won with minimal bloodshed, just as Brienne wanted him to. In my eyes, he did this for her, not for Cersai. Nikolai even said in an interview that wehen he tells her Oathkeeper is hers and hers alone, he in fact means his heart.
Rani Jenkins Wow, I always interpreted when he said “it’s yours, it will always be yours”, he was saying “I’m yours, I will always be yours”. He still loves Cersei too, it’s hard to turn love off, it has to sour and deplete. But ideally Brienne is the kind of woman he should be with, someone as kick ass as he used to be, but who can appeal to his better nature too. Jamie would probably say, if forced, that he loves Brienne but is in love with Cersei. Meanwhile we pretty have known since late season one or early season two that Cersei doesn’t truly love Jamie as he was barely out on campaign and she had taken Lancel to her bed. Also, you know that those men are safe with Jamie by surrendering. Bolton would have accepted their surrender and then had them flayed.
I think Nikki misunderstood what Jaime said to Edmure in the tent. He is redeemed but in the eyes of most people, he isn't. He's still the Kingslaying Oathbreaker, so he plays to that reputation. And as a result, Edmure yields the castle to the Lannisters, as Jaime knew he would. He perhaps wasn't serious but knew that threat would convince Edmure beyond doubt of the reason why he should surrender Riverrun to the King.
I was just about to write this. Jamie just SAVED all those people's lives. He was bluffing which was telegraphed by the scene in the last episode where he hits that dude with his golden hand for not being ready to follow through on a threat.
You truly possess the cunning of Longshanks. It's a blessing when everyone thinks you're an honor-less warmonger because it frees you to play on their expectations.
Plus, you switch Jamie for Ned, Cersei for Cat and Edmund with Joffrey and all of a sudden this is a grand romantic gesture of willing to do anything to get home to your love.
Yeah, when Jaime arrives to the siege he has the Freys clean up and feed Edmure because he knows what it's like to be mistreated in captivity. He can't go back to KL without taking back Riverun. In the scene with Edmure he attempts to be diplomatic but it doesn't work so he switches gears and makes the threats that will lead to getting the castle back with the least bloodshed.
Dang it!!!! I miss spoke off the top of this one and called it Season 7... jumped the gun just a little. please be easy and on me and the moderators and not post a thousand comments about it. Sorry y'all!!!!

@@brianrussell7369 If I had to guess I would say one of her lines from killing walder frey and house frey as a whole. Maybe "when people tell you what happened here, tell them the north remembers. Tell them that winter came for house frey"
I feel like Jaqen always knew that Arya was always going to be Arya, she just wanted the skills to become a faceless assassin but not really join their order.
I agree. I think Jaqen knew that, too. I also think he tested her to see who she would and wouldn't kill. He sent her to Lady Crane so she would see the reenactment of her father's death and realize that she was indeed Arya Stark and not no one. Jaqen was fine that she wanted to kill the people on her list. More faces for the Many-Faced God.
@@anafreitas1646 Arya may have realized who she really wants to be but by this time, she already "thinks" like one of the faceless. I think this was one of Jaqen's goals all along.
@@Lady_NightCourt_22 That would have been the right thing to do . But for a Lannister the right thing and the desired thing have to match , as the desire is most important to them , however in this case Jaime was bluffing and Edmure is too tortured by then to take the risk of not believing him he just wanted to go home . He was also fueled by his uncle's dismissal even though he did it for his own sake he knew they won't kill him he called their bluff but again as we all know Edmure wasn't the brightest of the letter and fucking terrible Archer as well I must add lol
Me too! But the funniest thing is when Thoros says "You're getting old, Clegane" and Sandor responds "He's not" and without warning kicks the stump of wood.
This episode spawned insane debate on various fandom sites: could Arya have survived her wounds? Even combat vets, docs, & surgeons weighed in. Answer: yes, it's possible. She had everything going for her: quick access to treatment, rest, nourishment, and most importantly, being young and very fit. My husband has been deployed 5X. He's seen people accomplish insane physical feats while gravely injured: lift heavy things/people, walk/run long distances, engage in combat. Young & strong people like Arya can take a lot of punishment and survive. In medieval times, someone like The Hound surviving a compound leg fracture AND managing to keep his entire leg is far less likely. But I love The Hound so I'll allow it. LOL
@@DumbPeopleIHate After hearing what my husband, father, and now son have reported about actual field injuries, I absolutely believe a person can do amazing things while grievously injured. I won't go into details here, but it is totally possible. Once that adrenaline gets pumping, all sorts of feats are possible - especially if faced with a life or death situation. The drive to survive is freakishly strong.
Robin Melendez ahh so that explains why robert baratheon, khal drogo, talisa, robb stark, barriston Selmy, renly, hizdar, roose bolton, jon snow, the mountain, lancel and tywin all suffered similar sort of wounds and all of them either died or were crippled and seriously injured for a long time while arya is perfectly fine the next day
@@DumbPeopleIHate We don't know how long Arya rested. Could have been 1 day or 1 week. No clear indication. Khal Drogo didn't rest or maintain his dressing (in books) and in show, his poultice may have been sabotaged or poisoned from the outset. He was also twice Arya's age. Robb suffered multiple penetrative injuries, and like Hizdhar, Renly, Roose, & Tywin a puncture wound to the heart/lungs. Talisa was pregnant and therefore pumping double the blood volume; no chance she wouldn't bleed out. Barristan suffered multiple mortal wounds and was in his late 60's/early 70's. Jon Snow did succumb to his wounds, including one directly to his heart. He was left to die. Not sure why you include him here. All things being equal, is it likely that every person injured like Arya would survive & capably evade/defend like this? No, it's not likely. Is it possible? Yes. Particularly when the only other outcome is death. To check out the discussions of this that I mentioned, head on over to reddit. Many medical professionals/veterans weighed in on this episode with gruesome (yet incredible) accounts of persons surviving all manner of horrific injury. Many did so while facing daunting physical challenges.
Stannis the grammar Nazi Well King Robert was old and severely obese. He was pretty much a few nice dinners away from a Heart attack. Both The mountain and Khal Drogo were poisoned. Jon Snow was stabbed all over his chest and stomach by a whole squad of people. Tywin was also old and shot by two arrows, which pretty much punctured his vital organs.. Robb Stark was shot by even more arrows. Talisa was stabbed in the stomach like 10 times and being highly pregnant, she definitely wasn't in the same good health as Arya. Most of those people also were pretty much left to die, while Arya got help quickly.
Jaimie doesn’t like bloodshed. He literally saved so many lives in the castle, and the only down fall of Jaimie is his love of Cersei. If Cersei wasn’t in the picture, Jaimie wouldn’t be so attached with someone, doing whatever for her. Jaimie is still a good guy. He has been a fan favorite for like 4 seasons!
That tiny nod and proud smile that Jaqen gave Arya is so great. I also love that he is actually taken a bit by surprise when he realizes that she is there. She was able to sneak up on him, and thus she has earned her place in the Faceless Men.
At the end when Arya said she was going home, JH had a little smile on his face. He seemed happy now that Arya says who she is and where she's going. Now that Arya said "I am Arya Stark of Winterfell and I am going home" the TV program officially finished off the books. Arya saying that finished her story line in book 5. Good reactions with the surprises, shocks, and worries. I enjoyed it a lot. I also enjoyed the live show last night. I am ready for episode 9 early next week. Enjoy the weekend.
What? None of that happens in _A Dance of Dragons_ or _any_ of the books so far, for that matter. By the time of this episode, her TV story has already gone past the books, as well as truncating and significantly changing her story from the books.
Sorry Ookamino, it did happen near the end of book 5. Arya's storyline in Bravos had come to an end with her saying she was going home to Winterfell. I'll try to find the exact chapter but all 5 books of the GoT are on one download on my Kindle and if you are familiar with those you know advancing to the end of a book is a time consuming evolution.
Two things we should take away from this show is... 1. Dont mess with the hounds chicken. (S4E1) 2. Dont mess with the hounds friends.(S6E8) LOL great reaction you two see you guys on the next one 😁
I concur. I'm a grown woman, and when I saw her I was like, I want to be her when I grow up. She'd make Chuck Norris her bitch! 🤣😂 That actress left such an amazing impression. I could have seen her and Arya becoming besties if The Starks had never left home. She's fierce.
I think you guys misread what Jaime did. He actually did what was right and saved many lives. As for the baby thing, i believe he was bluffing, using Edmure's Tully 'code' words against himself ( family, duty, honor), family will always come first for a Tully and he used that.
I think he would have to been forced to make his threat true if Edmure had refused. You can not make such threats without meaning it.Surely he hoped it would not be nescessary and it wasnt but he had done what has to be done. What other choice would he have had?
@@DutchDread you think Ned wanted to behead the Nights Watch brother in the very first episode? Or did he have to follow through with the threat that they established as a kingdom?
I think he probably didn't want to do it, and I think Jaime probably didn't want to kill Edmures son. But Ned did it, and Jaime would have as well. Thanks for proving my point.
He realized what a monster Edmure saw him as and knew that Edmure would believe his threats. It the book scene, he thinks "Must you make me say it?" -- he's being forced to make a threat he doesn't want to make, and if the threat doesn't make Edmure surrender, he will have to carry it out, so instead of making more honourable sorts of threats and risking that Edmure would take his chances against them, Jaime knew he had to make the threat so horrible that it disgusted himself to even think it, eliminating any possibility that Edmure would force him to carry it out.
Another Novel Note (Screw Spoilers): The show never touches on this, but Jamie's siege of Riverrun resulted in the death of his childhood hero, Brynden "Blackfish" Tully. When he was a child, Tywin Lannister was in talks with Hoster Tully to betroth Lysa to Jamie. Instead of spending the time to become acquainted with Lysa, Jamie spent his free time listening to the Blackfish's old war stories from the Fifth Blackfyre Rebellion (also called the War of the Ninepenny Kings).
Damn, I need to read the books. Seems like there's so much nuance that the show can't quite capture (understandably so, given the length of the books vs what they can fit in an allotted time slot for television)
Zvi mur The nickname came after he got back from the War of the Ninepenny Kings. Catelyn remembers in A Game of Thrones, Chapter 34, that her father and uncle were arguing and Lord Hoster Tully called him "the black goat of the Tully flock." When Brynden countered that their sigil's a fish, Lord Hoster dubbed him Blackfish. The showrunners penned an audio segment for the DVD's extra features where the Blackfish detailed the name came much earlier than the books. He recalled it was immediately after the War of the Ninepenny Kings that his brother had betrothed him to the daughter of another lord. Having just earned his knighthood, the show's Blackfish claims that he wanted to remain a bachelor. He later realizes that had he gone through with the marriage, his family would have been able to provide Robert with one of Westeros's largest navies during the Rebellion. Since this flies directly against the material from the books, George R.R. Martin declared the whole lot non-canon to the books, but allowed they can remain canon for the show.
I like Steven hands gesture after Arya cut the candle🤣🤣 And I think that's the right answer to Ja'quen when he asked who is she but she thought she has to be no one all long~
Not a spoiler, but a thought common amongst fans; JH was always impressed/intrigued by Arya, but knew she needed help. Inviting her to become "no one" was really all about helping her discover who she truly is, to find her inner strength after all the bullshit she's been through, and to give her the tools she'll need to get her revenge on those who wronged her family (giving the MFG lives along the way), and to help her help others in the wars to come. So yes, that look and nod at the end, was him proud that she stayed true to herself, because that's who she needs to be.
I think that no one guy already knew that she wouldn't be able to become no one, but he did say she was ready to become someone else, so maybe this was her test.
I was just curious if u hated Jaimie for that scene. What did u want Jaimie to do? Not try to threaten Edmure and just go and fight, risking to fight and maybe kill Brienne? Plus killing more people btw. Nikki whyyy😞 u gotta start hating Jaimie. Literally it’s Jaimie and Tyrion that aren’t the bad Lannisters. Hopefully Nikki sees the soft side of Jamie again. Which he keeps on showing throughout the show.
If there were 8 episodes decided right from the start, I am sure the whole show would have been cut, edited & presented in a different way. Who knows what it would have looked like...
I was thinking the same when he said that! But there will never again be an episode 8, 9, or 10! Good thing the last eps 9 & 10 they did were the ones upcoming - I wouldn't want to make new ones after that either.
This. It's literally history repeating itself, albeit on a smaller scale. Except this time Jamie didn't even have to do a dishonorable thing to save lives. He simply said some words, and yet so many reactors are repulsed by him this episode.
Jacquen always knew Arya would never become no one, because he knew about her list. He was "proud" that she finally admitted it to herself. Not to mention Arya also killed the waif, who was kind of a loose cannon anyways, and more trouble than she was worth to Jacquen.
I would agree if the end of the previous season hadn’t implied they were interchanged “no ones”. The direction this season seemed a complete departure from that and now the people that are meant to be no one have distinct personalities, hates, loves, desires and what not.
When Dany arrived back she was like a mother returning back to her kids. Dany: Explain! Greyworm: It was Tyrion. Missandei: It was Tyrion. Tyrion: It was... Shit!
What Jamie did was extremely honorable imo. He took the castle without killing anyone but the Blackfish, and that's only because he wouldn't give up. His speech to Edmure was more of a "I can do this, but only if it's my only option" thing. His "threat" led to no casualties and a peaceful solution. Season 1 Jamie would've just thrown his army and resources at the problem in order to take Riverrun, causing the deaths of thousands. He needed to say what he said to avoid that. Plus I love the callback to pushing Bran out of the window... "The things we do for love."
Let's not forget Lannister's interpretation of the right thing and the desired thing have to match , as the desire is most important to them , however in this case Jaime was bluffing and Edmure is too tortured by then to take the risk of not believing him he just wanted to go home . He was also fueled by his uncle's dismissal even though he did it for his own sake he knew they won't kill him he called their bluff but again as we all know Edmure wasn't the brightest of the letter and fucking terrible Archer as well I must add lol
I believe Jaime has always been honorable ever since he was a child. It is why he joined the Kingsguard at age 16, forfeiting all titles and land ownership. It enraged his father who didn’t understand why he would give up everything just to be a bodyguard. It is why he killed the Mad King, to save an entire city from burning alive. Ned and Robert only saw that he stabbed the king he was supposed to protect in the back, labeling him Kingslayer, not Savior of the City as he should have been. It is why he was mad when his men stabbed Ned in the leg. He wanted a fair, honorable fight. It is why he gave Brienne Oathkeeper, to keep his word to Catelyn Stark. The bad things he has done he did for his father after Tywin had rebuked him and played on his honor and obligation to defend his House. And for Cercei, whom he loves. He doesn’t want to love her, but he himself says we don’t get to choose whom we love. And even in carrying out her wishes he finds the least dishonorable way to do so, (pushing Bran out the window notwithstanding, he did that lest someone find out about him and Cercei and thus bring him and his House dishonor). How many times, when told to do some bad thing by Tywin or Cercei has he said “But I gave my word” or “I took an oath” or “I swore a vow” or “it is my duty”, only for them to say “Your duty is to your family and the continuation of your House. You are a Lannister. That is all that matters”. He has struggled between honor and loyalty and only chosen loyalty when to do otherwise would bring dishonor. Jaime does not need redemption. He needs to be free to make the choices he knows are right and to be recognized for the honorable man that he has always been. Only Brienne sees the honor in him and that is why they have the bond they do. But then, maybe I just see the good in people. What do I know. P&L. Dann.
I completely think that Jaqen is proud of Arya. Giving her the skills she needed to finish her list. I think that he knew that she needed to accept that she was Arya Stark and didn’t need to be NoOne. Her power is behind that.
Jamie was bullshitting Edmure. He didn't want to do any of those things he threatened, and he wouldn't have. It was a bluff, and it worked flawlessly. He threatened bloodshed so that they could arrive at a bloodless outcome. He didn't want anyone to die. You can tell he's even upset when he learns that the Blackfish perished. It's sort of like Tyrion when he went off on Shae; he said horrible things to her that he didn't want to say, yet he had to.
The reason the Kindly Man (aka "Jaq'uen Hagar") allowed Arya to leave was because a life was owed to the Many-Faced God. They planned on it being Arya's life, but since Arya killed the Waif, the life was still paid. So there's no need to pursue Arya at this point. Ian McShane is *not* a fan of Game of Thrones, and didn't want the part, but they effectively backed a dump-truck full of money up to his door, told him he wasn't going to be playing a bad guy but rather one of the nicest guys the series had ever seen, and that he was going to get to ham it up as a corpse, and it convinced him to do one single episode. That's all he'd do. So that's why we got the awesomeness that is Ian McShane being one of the nicest, coolest guys in the series for one episode, followed by a shot of him hanging in mid-air with a purple face and his eyes all bulging and his tongue sticking out. I agree with you, Nikki. The man-bun? Not a thing. If you're planning on wearing a man-bun, you should ask yourself a simple question: Is my name Toshiro Mifune? If the answer is "no" then DO NOT WEAR A FREAKING MAN-BUN!
Also, another reason Jaq'uen Hagar (The Faceless Man) let Arya go was that she was able to sneak up on him without being detected. If you notice at the end when Arya sneaks up on him there is a brief moment of surprise in his eyes. If she was able to sneak up on him then he has nothing further to teach her.
I'm sure by the number of comments saying this that you realize that Jaime was bluffing for minimal bloodshed LOL. I don't think the Faceless Man ever thought Arya would be no one. Throughout her entire time there, he was pretty much like "ummm are you sure you want this?" and Arya stubbornly believed that she did until he asked her to kill a decent woman and it turns out that she could never be "No one" because she's still very attached to her family. Arya is fueled by revenge and it's less about becoming some cold-blooded assassin. Sucks that it took her this long to realize it but she's a Stark after all and there are plenty of other slow learners beloved on the show.
Love your reactions, you genuinely enjoy and are excited by what you watch. It's refreshing, especially compared to the reactors who just whine and nitpick.
Soup and sleep heals major stab wounds, allowing Arya to run all Assassins Creed style through the city, lol. Too bad Talisa, Robb and Luwin didn't have it on hand, lol.
Lady Crane is played by Aussie actress Essie Davis, great actress, she’s also in “Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries” and the horror movie, “The Babadouk.” 👍👍👍
That final scene makes it pretty obvious that Jaqen knew she would never be No One because she was driven by rage and vengeance, which are personal motives. She doesn't want to kill just to kill. She wants to kill to balance the scales of justice. When Arya reclaimed her name, I think he was satisfied that she figured out who she was and learned the lessons she needed to learn along the way.
I think Jaqen was totally void of caring what Arya did. Lady Crane life was paid for by that actress, she had to die either way. He also promised the dead god Arya because he sent the Waith to kill her. That promise’s payment was delivered by the life of the Waith. Arya has no debt to pay and Jaqen said that she would never be no one, I think the “finally a girl is no one” was a test to see if she would finally admit that she didn’t want to run away from hardship and she wanted to return to do her Arya Stark things.
Redemption of Jamie still stands because doing what he did forced him to surrender peacefully hence no violence. Old Jamie would’ve killed everyone AFTER they surrendered.
Jaime has to play the part of a Lannister to convince Edmure to surrender the castle. He’s still a good guy who’s forced to do horrible things. There was no way the siege would end up with no big losses which is why he has to commit to his “dishonorable” name to achieve an honorable end. And there was barely any casualty in the end (RIP Blackfish though). Also, he called the Freys’ bluff in front of Edmure previously and he knows that Edmure will believe his threats after that hook, line and sinker. He has to make his threats extremely believable to drive the point through. And yeah, Edmure is a wuss. Edit: I think Jaime is internally conflicted while talking to Edmure like “don’t make me say this dude” or “say shit for honor again and you’ll see how shitty i can be.” Or something, lol.
Semi book spoiler...The blackfish was one of Jaimes hero’s while growing up. He super respected that guy and never imagined he could be on the opposite side of a war from him.
Age Of The Witch I think it’s a spoiler in a sense that if you haven’t read the books or if you’re not at that part Driver is referring too maybe??? 🤔🤔🤔
I can't get mad at Jaime. In a land full of men like Ned who start a war in order to keep their honor unharmed or men like Littlefinger who wants to be on top of everything crushing everyone below, Jaime is by far the only one who put the peace of the kingdom and the lives of people he does't even know above his own honor. He is not a hero or a entirely correct person, he almost killed a innocent child, but he is quite better then most of other characters, in my opinion.
I agree completely. Jaime is the one who has been vilified most, yet the only one who has conducted himself correctly in what the Hospitaler in "Kingdom of Heaven" called RIGHT ACTION. Jaime has never felt he was entitled to anything. He loved his brother unconditionally and was torn between his sister's hatred of Tyrion. He has always been the man in the middle.
Jaime may seem like a bad guy because he's not on the right side. He threatened a good guy, but to him Edmure is a bad guy. You can't expect Jaime to act like he's on the other side when he's never given anyone cause to think he would do that. He's still fighting for his sister, but not everyone who fights for Cersei is a bad person. Take a look at Dickon Tarly.
No he wasn't, stop pretending Jaime is suddenly a nice guy, nothing in the show or books tells us he is. Hell, he even mentioned last freaking episodes that you shouldn't make threats you're not willing to back up.
@@DutchDread yeah, conveniently right in front of edmure who he then threatens the next episode. Almost like he wanted edmure to think that he was serious about 🤔
Be easy on Jaime. He wanted to take the castle without bloodshed. He laid the groundwork for Edmure to think he means all of his threats. Then threatened him with something he wouldn’t actually do. Yes, he loves Cersei and wants to get back to her, but she is his family. She’s all he has left in the world.
just wanna say, this has been amazing for me to catch up on the show whilst waiting for the final season, cant believe i've been watching you guys since s1, dont even remember how or why i stumbled onto the channel
The Waif death paid for the one owed because Arya did not kill the actress. After that, Arya was basically free to go. I think Jaqen smirked because he liked Arya and was happy when Arya (by saying her name) was finally telling the truth. Before that, she was lying to Jaqen (until she got blind) and to herself (after she got blind).
@@TheMaskedChef7 I don't think so, the meaning of becoming no one is to have no emotional attachments whatsoever as GRRM explained, and Jaqen's decision to let her go because he liked her didn't make sense at all
@@lemonpi318 Read what I wrote carefully first I said THE MEANING FOR ARYA!! I didn't say that's the purpose of becoming no one , I think for arya's journey it was a must to get to know her self and be honest with her self that's what he was most happy about that she was finally Honest with her self therefore she is finally both No one and Arya Stark depending on what she needs .
I absolutely love watching y’all’s videos as I work on my small business! Y’all are so entertaining to watch and I look forward to watching more of your stuff!
I like Jamie in this one. He tried to make a deal with Edmure. But he start to talk about how evil is his family. Jamie seen affected (is his problem, he cant escape the gravity of his family acts, and his own acts), by at the same time, he get a plan thank to that. "You say that we are awful? Ok, this awful Lannister have your baby, and will have the life of your men. An i am not a pathetic Frey. Choose well." Not matter if it's true or not. We know not. Jamie offer him a good deal, and didn't harm the Tully soldiers when they surrender. He even wanted to take Blackfish alive. A clean victory. Better than what his father or the Frey would have got. Jamie play the cart of the evil man everyone thinks he is. He is not. But the people believe. And in comparison with the Frey, he has some real authority. He play well, he made a credible threat, and got the most clean victory in Games of Thrones history. One man dead (and because he wanted to fight) to take a castle? I will say that Jamie did very good here.
I really Don’t think that Jaime meant those words he said to Edmure about catapulting his baby boy into Riverrun. Jaime just said that to Scare Edmure into Surrendering Riverrun. But If Edmure never Surrendered Riverrun I Highly Doubt Jaime would do that to Edmure’s Son anyway! GoT would Not make all of the Fans start to really like a character that everyone Hated at First just for him to mean to do an Evil thing like That! It was a Smart move that Jaime did because it worked. Jaime was trying to be Fair with Edmure at first offering him a new life at Casterly Rock with his Wife and Son but Edmure made Jaime turn to Shit Talk!
This episode is a great example of what I was talking about in our earlier interaction. Jaime capturing Riverrun with almost no loss of blood seems like a dishonourable thing on the surface, but when you actually think about it, it’s a very clever act of command which kept his soldiers alive (which is something a commander always wants to do) and also kept the bulk of the enemy alive (a humane outcome) while securing his objective. Traditional SF/fantasy always wants fights to the death, heroic bravery etc, but in actual medieval warfare this was the kind of result everyone was actually looking for, and shows Jaime’s skill as a commander and strategist. This is why GoT is so damn clever it’s forcing you to look behind the obvious or the expected and to think about what is really going on. That is why it’s so damn good. It’s not just the mostly great cinematography, the rich characterisations (almost to the end) and the shocks along the way, it’s the constant ambiguity in the whole story and what occurs. Another example is the trial by combat situation. Trial by combat is absolutely the worst legal process ever invented. It was a ridiculous way of achieving justice, so on the surface its removal is actually a just, wise act of kingship on Tommen’s part. But the sparrows are dangerous religious fanatics (as much as I admire their lower class cred), though on the other hand, Cersei is totally amoral and the Mountain was a psychopath even before being Frankensteined…. So what is right in this case? Is there a right? Genius stuff
You cant really hate jamie for that once again " ruin " his honor to save thousands of people, i think its way better to make a threat to edmure than attacking the castle and killing thousands of people. Just like roberts rebellion jamie ruined his honor by killing the king everybody hated him even tho it was all to save thousands of people ... jamie is a hero
Arya was so chill walking through town because she wanted to be seen and pursued. She had Needle waiting and while she may not have expected to be stabbed so much, being able to leave a blood trail to her chosen battleground was a stroke of genius. Oh, and Margaery can't believe it's not butter. That is all.
I was really upset after watching this episode when it aired. How the Blackfish was killed. Their words is "Family, Duty, Honor". In that order. He should have gone North. He was Robb's best man. This will probably be deleted by the mods for some unknown reason.
@@CraigKostelecky His men wouldn't, but his strategic capabilities and experience would help Sansa. Also his option was to get out Riverrun quietly with Brienne on a boat, so no captivity by the Lannisters.
Nikki, you were spot on when Daenerys showed up. The look on her face was like that of a parent who comes home early just to find the kids threw a party that has gone out of control.
Well what is sad is that Nikolaj wants Jaime to hate Cersei as well and tries to play him that way, but is forced to go with writing obvs. Since he didnt know what would be happening Nikolaj really tried to show Jaime being done with Cersei in his acting many times only to find out he is still with her. I love the work Nikolaj does with him and hate that the writers have him still so devoted to her... >.>
Jaime read it in the window seat, bathed in the light of that cold white morning. Qyburn’s words were terse and to the point, Cersei’s fevered and fervent. Come at once, she said. Help me. Save me. I need you now as I have never needed you before. I love you. I love you. I love you. Come at once. Vyman was hovering by the door, waiting, and Jaime sensed that Peck was watching too. “Does my lord wish to answer?” the maester asked, after a long silence. A snowflake landed on the letter. As it melted, the ink began to blur. Jaime rolled the parchment up again, as tight as one hand would allow, and handed it to Peck. “No,” he said. “Put this in the fire.” When I first read this, I shouted the loudest "YES". Jaime is one my fav POVs, so I was really mad with what they did to him in the show.
May not like Jamie, but you have to understand him. Loves Cersei over anything, but wants to be honorable. He may have been dick to Edmure, but considering they are at war, you have to do and say and threaten your way on top. Jamie was smart to use Edmure's impression of him against himself. "Yeah I'm not decent, so you'll believe me when I say your kid is going for a ride" Love the grey in this show!
So, while everyone's talking about Jaime and Edmure, here are my thoughts about the ending. If you notice, there was a blood trail leading to the pool where they give the Gift. If you remember, it also restored Arya's sight. Her wound reopened in her chase, but she is all right now. Jaquen said "If a girl is truly no one, she has nothing to fear" about drinking from that pool. Jaquen noticed she was healed and therefore knew Arya had become No One. Which to me just means letting go of the Self. Now that she has become No One, she can truly become Arya Stark. This is the purpose of the training. And why Jaqen approves.
As to what Jaqen was thinking, even the actor doesn't know. He asked what his lines meant, what the his character was thinking, and he wasn't given an answer. So, he not even acting in that scene, he's just reading out the script. Apparently, Arya only acted injured during that scene at the insistence of Maisie Williams.
Let's just take a second here to thank Faye Marsay for her Perfect impersonation of the Waif and that awesome T1000 shot 👌😆 Now that Arya can officially Fight in the Dark and the light and knows herself better she is ready to go home . I call this scene the Blood 🍊 scene lol
Age Of The Witch if she hadn’t have been stabbed then it would’ve been more believable, while its true she could have survived there’s no possible way shed be that athletic
Yes, as ludicrous as dragons, a woman who is completely non-flammable, people who directly project their minds and will into other creatures, an army of the dead controlled by frosty necromancers who were created by plant people, and a man who gets prayed back to life six times by his drunkard friend (in at least one instance with his armor being "healed" as well). And to top it off, Melisandre, Melisandre, Melisandre. Arya, however, gets her "Not today" going on, and it's the height of ridiculousness? GTFOH. Yes, I wish they had done better, and they could have, but it's not the worst thing I've seen.

I like to think Jaqen was super proud of Arya. I don’t think he ever planned on her becoming no one. He wanted to help her and train her, but knew she could never fully be a faceless man.
Yes he wanted he me to know
the meaning of becoming No one for Arya is to be come her true self 👌🙏
right, he was super proud of her and ordered the waif to kill her... that makes looooots of sense.
Maybe he is Syrio Forel and wanted to fulfill his duty/promise to her father as to train her.....
Yeah same
The other girl though just seemed like a crazy bitch
Jaqen was probably trying to get rid of her when he sent her after Arya lol
I absolutely HATE Cersei but when she says "I choose violence" It puts a big smile on my face every time.😁
I find myself rooting for her about halfway through this season and I'm always like "wait, how did this happened?" I always love to hate Cersei, I enjoy a good bad guy.
@@randycooper3428 she is perfect casting. I honestly can't tell if she's even acting or if she just *is* Cersei.

Exactly since Robb defeated him, he gets better and better as commander. He's one of the smartest, if not smartest commanders left in my opinion.
no he wouldnt .... but to explain would have to much of a spoiler .... i also think Jaime threatens people .... but i dont think we would go forward only to proof a point. even season 1 Jaime wouldnt.
("Call it tactics, not strategy." I'm really not sure, tbh)
I initially hated this episode altogether when it aired, but it's growing on me. Aside from the logical leaps in the Arya storyline, there's actually a lot of great scenes. And the foot chase is at least fun, even if Terminator Waif is super cringy.
What other choice is there? He can't leave Riverrun in Tully's posession. He'd have to storm the castle.
The waif was clearly jealous and disliked Arya, I’m not sure those feelings are acceptable if you’re “no one”. I believe Jaqen saw that and was satisfied with the outcome
It is all the same to the Many-faced God...

I think the Sparrows figured Trial by Combat was problematic when they saw Cersei’s bodyguard rip a man’s head off with his bare hands.
Yeah, that was a huge factor.
They just underestimated Cersei
Religious zealots always want a theocracy & when given an inch will take that mile ASAP
(Except for the mountain but that is still just one guy, even if strong, only one.)
But i think they have backed themselves into a corner the moment they publicly shamed Cersei and told all the people about the upcoming trial.
Rani Jenkins
Wow, I always interpreted when he said “it’s yours, it will always be yours”, he was saying “I’m yours, I will always be yours”.
Jamie is a really good strategist and commander, I think he did learn some from his father.
Rani I didnt even think of it that way. Wouldn't surprise me.
He said that on the cast commentary for the episode, I think.
Yes, I have always believed he did all that for his love for Brienne, not because of Cersei.

The way she ran and her passion to kill immediately reminded people of T-1000 in Terminator 2. It was the first thing that came to my mind too
Haha I called her the Terminator when I first watched this too 😆
I think Nikki misunderstood what Jaime said to Edmure in the tent.
Great explanation of this scene

LOL
Robin Melendez yes it is possible that she could have survived, but its 100% not possible that she could’ve ran jumped and fought while in that state
@@DumbPeopleIHate After hearing what my husband, father, and now son have reported about actual field injuries, I absolutely believe a person can do amazing things while grievously injured. I won't go into details here, but it is totally possible. Once that adrenaline gets pumping, all sorts of feats are possible - especially if faced with a life or death situation. The drive to survive is freakishly strong.
Robin Melendez ahh so that explains why robert baratheon, khal drogo, talisa, robb stark, barriston Selmy, renly, hizdar, roose bolton, jon snow, the mountain, lancel and tywin all suffered similar sort of wounds and all of them either died or were crippled and seriously injured for a long time while arya is perfectly fine the next day
@@DumbPeopleIHate
We don't know how long Arya rested.

I'll be looking forward to finding out which part of the book that is then.
shes still blind in the last book..
Two things we should take away from this show is...
1. Dont mess with the hounds chicken. (S4E1)
2. Dont mess with the hounds friends.(S6E8)

Oh my
I concur. I'm a grown woman, and when I saw her I was like, I want to be her when I grow up. She'd make Chuck Norris her bitch! 🤣😂 That actress left such an amazing impression. I could have seen her and Arya becoming besties if The Starks had never left home. She's fierce.
Samwell Tarly why thank you Sam
Sam! The white Walker slayer! Beast mode!
I think you guys misread what Jaime did. He actually did what was right and saved many lives. As for the baby thing, i believe he was bluffing, using Edmure's Tully 'code' words against himself ( family, duty, honor), family will always come first for a Tully and he used that.
Jaime didn't mean that threat to Edmure, he said what he had to say to get the castle without bloodshed, just like brienne asked him to
Oh please, you're insane if you think Jaime wouldn't back that threat up.
Pretty sure the nickname was for swimming prowess. He swam under a not fully lowered gate.
Sadly Jamie has had to kill or watch his heroes die way too often
Crescentknight8189 Sadly, it's commonplace in the real world. We outlive our heroes.

I like Steven hands gesture after Arya cut the candle🤣🤣
And I think that's the right answer to Ja'quen when he asked who is she but she thought she has to be no one all long~
Davos n lyanna mormonts conversation is the best thing ever!
Yes, the Iron Islands are part of Westeros.
"It will all be over soon". "On your knees or on your feet". "That won't help you".
The Waif what a great character.
I WISH there was an episode 8 in season 7🤣🤣🤣
LMAO! RIGHT? ME TOO! Steven is a little excited😉🤪
I dislike Season 7 partly because fewer episodes meant they needed to compress time, sometimes to a ridiculous degree.
Jaime saved the lives of thousands yet again, simply by threatening Edmure's family and baby... The man gets such little recognition!
Shit!
I always feel like I can never get my day started until I see your GOT reactions
I always thought it was so clever how Arya dealt with the Waif.
MFBloosh Jaime just wanted to get home quickly.
P&L. Dann.
Didn't the mad king place jamie on the kings guard as a punishment to tywin? I haven't read the books but I always thought that was the case.
Interesting book backstory: when Jaime was a kid, Blackfish was one of his heroes.
Next week can't come soon enough! Best last two episodes of a season in the show! Also the music in the season finale is just STUNNING!
Nikki made five notebooks to inform TH-cam viewers. But in secret, she made one book; one book to rule them all.
The hound had been chopping wood for months. That axe was his best weapon at that moment.
If you like Ian McShane, you will LOVE him in Pillars Of The Earth.
It's also referred to as Top Not ! 👌😂
Ian will always be Al Swearwegin to me. Deadwood is still one of my top 5 tv series's of all time.

The kindly man is not Jaqen H‘ghar)
The acting, the drama, the story line, the unexpected, the monsters and Dragons make this the greatest cinematic work in world history!!!!!!!
The blackfish was a legend! He fought alongside Tywin and the mad king during the war of the ninepenny kings. Jaime grew up admiring him

Jaime said to Edmure “The things we do for love.” He said that too when he pushed Bran from that tower.
I think Nikki and Steven have no idea what a legend BLACKFISH was!
And how could they? The show never did make an effort in showing it.
Edit: I think Jaime is internally conflicted while talking to Edmure like “don’t make me say this dude” or “say shit for honor again and you’ll see how shitty i can be.” Or something, lol.
the waif's terminator run was great, it's the expression aswell into the running.
Semi book spoiler...The blackfish was one of Jaimes hero’s while growing up. He super respected that guy and never imagined he could be on the opposite side of a war from him.

M3 Driver agreed
Love your guys reactions! It’s amazing to see you react to the first episode and to watch you see the characters develop. 💕
9:23 Cersei's composure and "I Choose Violence" gives me chills all the time.
Jaime was just bluffing when threatening edmure. He was insulted so he just played the part of the kingslayer to get what he wanted

My favorite scene ever with the Hound is when he is arguing about how many of the guys he can kill and all upset when he can't even chop off his hand!

The Waif death paid for the one owed because Arya did not kill the actress. After that, Arya was basically free to go. I think Jaqen smirked because he liked Arya and was happy when Arya (by saying her name) was finally telling the truth.
I think I just smiled from ear to ear throughout that whole reaction. Great job guys! That was great 😉👍
I really Don’t think that Jaime meant those words he said to Edmure about catapulting his baby boy into Riverrun.

@@CraigKostelecky His men wouldn't, but his strategic capabilities and experience would help Sansa. Also his option was to get out Riverrun quietly with Brienne on a boat, so no captivity by the Lannisters.

OMG, what a pleasant surprise!
"Hide your Chickens Yal" The Hound is on the loose. What a great T-shirt that would make.lol
The sad truth is that Jaime redeemed himself in the books. He hates Cersei since he returned from the captivity.
Books aren't canon beyond a certain point with the series. Kind of obvious given the series overtook the books.
The books are the only canon. The show is pure fan fiction.
I love the work Nikolaj does with him and hate that the writers have him still so devoted to her... >.>
That's so sad.
Jaime read it in the window seat, bathed in the light of that cold white morning. Qyburn’s
words were terse and to the point, Cersei’s fevered and fervent. Come at once, she said. Help me.
Save me. I need you now as I have never needed you before. I love you. I love you. I love you.
Come at once.
Vyman was hovering by the door, waiting, and Jaime sensed that Peck was watching too. “Does
my lord wish to answer?” the maester asked, after a long silence.
A snowflake landed on the letter. As it melted, the ink began to blur. Jaime rolled the
parchment up again, as tight as one hand would allow, and handed it to Peck. “No,” he said. “Put
this in the fire.”
When I first read this, I shouted the loudest "YES". Jaime is one my fav POVs, so I was really mad with what they did to him in the show.
Just what I need on a day that is too rough to go swimming in the ocean, house sava and nikki and Steven reactions!
I think Jaime was just using his reputation to get results. Guy just can't escape his past so he might as well use it.
The Blackfish is one of the main people Jaime admired while he was growing up.
Johan Pacheco doesn't matter if he wants to be honorable, he still does horrible things in the name of love.
Remember when they first met, and he was her "genie"? Now she (finally) can be her own genie and we all couldn't be more prouder! 😍
Second time Jamie saves thousands of lifes and people hate him for it.
MattH It’s a bad sign when the actors have to run around picking up pieces for the show runners
love the last line going home
Let's just take a second here to thank Faye Marsay for her Perfect impersonation of the Waif and that awesome T1000 shot 👌😆
Now that Arya can officially Fight in the Dark and the light and knows herself better she is ready to go home .
I call this scene the Blood 🍊 scene lol
Age Of The Witch are you serious, that whole terminator chase was ludicrous from start to finish
@@DumbPeopleIHate
That's your opinion , I enjoyed the level of realty Athleticism she brought to her role !!!
0okamino are you actually serious, anybody who uses the “it’s a fantasy show” excuse do not deserve to watch tv, those things you mentioned have been established in the universe to be real, wolverine like regeneration has not, it’s like saying that it would all be fine for the hobbits to grow wings and fly to mordor in lotr simply because it has magic in it, what a pathetic argument
