  • The 5 way box wedge is my favorite to run on the ‪@EastonmadeWoodSplitters‬ 37D with attached conveyor, but there are a few things to watch out for. Here are a few tips to keep an eye on so the rounds can keep pushing through one end and split firewood out the other.

    Great realistic video. Not every round is best for every machine. There’s an experience gained every time you pull the lever- it’s an enjoyable pastime for the hobbyist (queue jingle!) but for us full timers, it’s worth watching a few of these videos to glean whatever wisdom we can to make our lives easier and less dangerous! Thanks for sharing Dan.

    Great video Dan. With my 22-28 box wedge I’ve learned the exact same things. It will be nice for new box wedge owners to see this video before they start using the box.

      Thanks....it's crazy how little things can have a big impact but if noticed can be avoided. It's also crazy when pieces do get stood up and then just get snapped right off...makes ya appreciate the power of what is all going on....lol

    Way overdue video! Not only does it give you better wood splits, it alleviates a very dangerous high-pressure situation! Amazing how many just let the splitter power through! You even get a lot less chaff, waste, sending the logs through straight. And it’s also a good practice when you’re using a single wedge , a four-way, any wedge. The easiest way to get that stuck wood out is lifting the wedge up!! Good info!! 😊

      Thanks! Yeah I've seen many situations where I would not have pushed it....something's gonna give at some point...I like to avoid those situations if at all possible.

    Great video. Most of the videos you see rarely show the reality of how each piece of wood is different. Thanks for the video, i ordered a 5 way box wedge for my 12-22 that should be here in a day or two. Will definitely be aware of the things you pointed out! BE COOL!

    Great Video Dan. Good to know those items that could go wrong. I have an Electric 5ton downstairs that does act the same way if it's not Striaght. Great item for Safety and Saving a larger headache in the long Run. Getting there slow in my Recovery from what seemed minor but almost caused me a Heart Attack. Hope to be able to join in Friday Night Live. Ron from the Woodyard in Duanesburg NY.

    Since i got hydraulics splitters, i can read the wood better than when i was using an Ax. Even with my 4 way wedge i can see if a round is going to have a problem 😉👍

      It's a little detail but can make a big difference, but how the log is laying and all sorts of factors can come into play so not always as easy as it seems.

    Good info. Applies to every splitter - this happened to my single wedge. I was holding the small round with my fingers on the bottomside when ram hit the bottom of uneven cut and drove it down on my finger (luckily finger nails regrow!!)

    So if a guy is thinking a box wedge style splitter is what his operation is in need of...His first step should be buying a Husqvarna saw because it is a know fact that the poor handle ergonomics of a Stihl handlebar will always cause crooked cuts! Thanks for the tips and tricks, Dan!👍

    Hi Dan I wouldn't force the Log to Split it if it looks like it won't Split it other than Maybe have a Peace of Wood behind it that won't Buck Up

    hi there i guess it is like all splitters in a way , READ YOUR WOOD , I am afraid the more i see and am around a box wedges and multi split wedges the more i like my good all single split . and not sure if it is all that easier on the operator or safer , i know after being at Brads they need some kind of support to get the wood away from the machine ,either a helper or a conveyor witch means re-handling. then there is the trash witch takes more time and effort to clean up not to mention you just lost 25-30 % of your wood to waist . i think all these new bigger better machines with all there thiss and thats are over thinking and over complicating.the basic splitter , they do split fast and easy if that is all you are looking for but in the firewood game the splitter is just one little part ,so one should research and buy what they feel will fit there needs best , if you find your not happy with it get a different one , did i go over board here , good show john Question for Friday night live , How many pieces of wood in an average face cord of wood ?

    • @Back40Firewood
      @Back40Firewood  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      All very good points. As far as how many pieces in a face cord....we'll need to hire out a consultant or someone that can count that high. Ha...hahahaha

    The cradle needs about 2 inches to be longer, and that will fix it the problem to much space in between. I have watched people with straight cuts, and the same wood dive happened....

  • @ericm4067
    @ericm4067 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You can fix that problem by grabbing a piece of split wood and filling the gap.
