Hey, Jake! It’s great to hear that you’re taking care of yourself, and making steps towards improvement. I also wanted to thank you for creating this channel. I convinced myself for such a long time that there was something innately wrong with me, and I wouldn’t ever be able to improve my AvPD-related symptoms. However, you’ve given me a new perspective on AvPD that’s encouraged me to seek out therapy, get an official diagnosis, and start improving my own life. For once, the future doesn’t seem so hopeless. Thanks for sharing your struggles and triumphs-you’ve made great progress!
Thank you so much for sharing that, Brynn! I can definitely relate to how you were feeling, and it makes me very happy to hear that you have been able to start moving forward too. Let's keep it up :)
I've been taking ssri's for the past year and it has changed my life. I've actually been able to talk to strangers and coworkers. Before I was essentially a mute. Lol literally never talked
That's awesome :) I tried a handful of those and they didn't help, but other meds slowly have been. Hopefully eventually doctors will have a more reliable way of figuring out what will work for whom!
You are super photogenic, your dimples really suit you! You kinda look like Penn Badgley on the show 'You'. Thank you for continuing to share your story, it takes a lot to put yourself out there.
You look good Jake 👍 for a split second, I didn't understand why you were hesitant about shaving ur beard but when you explained why I related. For instance, I conciously wore baggy clothes to the gym today. Rather than wear workout clothes that flaunt anything because I don't want people to stare so I dress like a boy lol. On days when I wear make up and dress up I become really self-conscious when ppl stare. I totally get what you mean now. And congrats on the move. You're living my dream 😭😭. In the past my dad offered to help pay for rent too but idk. Not to be tmi but I got a complicated relationship with my parents, so I rather get away from everyone on my own but its difficult to. That's my avpd dream. Also, Glad you're trying out different things In therapy. Keep it up 👍 I've been thinking of quitting therapy lately tbh. Don't feel like my therapist knows how to help, not trynna shift the responsibility on her. Js. I'm really trying to take baby steps daily. Just wish therapy helped more. Maybe I should find another therapist? Who knows.
Thank you :) That's definitely not tmi, I understand exactly what you mean. I'm in a similar spot with my parents, and also feel really guilty to have someone else cover my living expenses as an adult. But I think it's really going to help me make progress, and hopefully I will get to a point where I can do it on my own. I hope you're able to live your dream as well sometime soon :) And I completely relate to how you feel about therapy. All the forms of therapy I've tried have really been focused on trying to help me be more conscious of why I am so anxious, and that it doesn't make sense to feel that way-but I do feel that way anyway, and that sort of leads to a dead end where the therapist doesn't know anymore than I do how I can change. I think baby steps are the right approach. I don't think it has to be therapy, as long as we're continuing to push ourselves to get where we want to be :)
It is very obvious to me that you're feeling better, you seem more confident Jake, and als determined as you say yourself! It's awesome to see and you look great. I hope you will find a good appartment. I think too that it is especially important because you can do things whenever you want to do them and are ready to do them. Sometimes it may seem to family that we are not achieving anything in a day but we might have suddenly gathered the courage to do something at night or achieved something within our own mind that is invisible to them. I also hope the clinic wil give you a response and that the group therapy will be a thing! Virtual stuff is indeed tricky because it can actually heighten anxiety and eventually feel fake, or at least not completely real, and might therefore also not help as much as true physical co-presence. It's cool that you're thinking about setting up your own group too. I think it would feel much more accessible to some people than the more formal therapy type talk. If I were in the area I might even have joined. I have purchased your book by the way Jake and will let you know what I think once I read it :)
Hi Jake! You are looking amazing! So blessed to have found your channel suffering from chronic and social anxiety all my life. I take Lorazapam every 2-3 days and that really helps me calm down and sleep! Thank you for being here for me! It will be cool having your own place! Peace- Jack
this channel & others have helped me in ways you cant imagine.
It makes me super happy to hear that :)
Hey Jake, thank you for sharing your story and I'm so happy thay you're making progress ❤
Thank you ❤️
Looking good! Your channel has helped me come to terms with this disorder. It sucks that it is so under researched.
Thanks man! It really does suck. I can only hope that people like us continuing to talk about it makes a difference eventually.
