I was able to do this on my 13 Beetle! I didn’t have to remove the coolant hoses but it sure would of helped. Two bottom bolts were a pain but it was definitely worth it. I got the replacement cover and gaskets for 50. Dealer wanted 1k for this job and Glad I was able to man up and tackle this myself! Thank you 🙏🏽
Wow, this is a really high quality tutorial! Much better lighting and many more details shown than other videos I’ve seen on this repair. Thanks for making it!

Thanks for the video. It helped. Do you have a video on the valve cover re seal process ?
I got the same issue with my 2011 GTI. I already ordered the new cover from the dealership and with the help of this video I am gonna pull it off myself. Thanks for this DIY
I have this same issue on my ‘10 GTI. Little scared of doing it myself but this video is super high quality and detailed. Awesome work here. Cheers.

Just wanted to say thanks for this video. Literally just finished the job. Life saver.
+josh6pack Thank you for your feedback!
did you need to drain your oil for this?
Worked on my 2013 CC 2.0! Things weren’t identical but pretty close, definitely recommend taking that coolant housing off lol.
Thanks for Your explanation was that it was clear photography and outstanding performance. Your speech was calm and comfortable, and the soundtrack was also calm.. The truth is that you are very wonderful.. Thanks from Team Dealer Cars VW & Hyundai
Really good video. You show every step.
Hi, is it not necessay to oil the new gasket a little bit, with engine oil? The same what happens with o-rings? Thanks.
Thanks for the video.Do I have to empty the engine oil before the job?
Just did it. Thanks so much! Vid made the impossible simple. Really appreciate it.
Thanks for a clear video! Question, should I change the cover when I replace gasket? I heard they warp and that could cause the leak too. Or what are the odds of the warping? Thanks!!
This helped me so much! Got mine installed!

Great video, but that background music was enough to drive me crazier than I already am!
Thanks for video. Top far back screw seems to have broken on mine... I replaced all gaskets including o ring. Cover seems tight. Am I good or think oil will still come out?
Halfway done with this job on my 14 GTI. The bolt closest to the dip stick caused me the most trouble.
I did not fully need to remove the coolant reservoir, just detached it and moved it aside.
great video, think there is O ring inside cam that needs replacement also
Did you have to drain the oil to replace the seals?
i don’t see the parts listed on the 1A site. did i miss something?
Hello my friend. Do you recommend those gaskets from Elring? or only OEM ? what do you think?
Thanks for the video.I can do it myself.. Greetings from BOSNIA..
+BIH Ljiijani Thank you!
Isn't the "O Ring" you refer to in the reinstall of the cam sensor the cam sensor gasket you replaced in part one of this video or is that a separate o ring? thank you...
Do i need to replace also the timing chain even its no problem?
if you open and replace the upper and lower timing chain cover.?
What's the part name of the o-ring that you said it's recommended to replace as well?
Jetta tsi 2011!!!! Best video
+RJD Games Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
How many hours should I set aside for this job? 2-4 hours maybe?
Hi is this a fix for the oil leak that happen around the filter and filler cap i got 09 gti finding oil drops top of the oil filter near the oil filler cap i replace the filler cap. But keeps leaking. Thanks
I noticed you did not remove the engine mounts. I assume this is the same engine as the VW 2.0 Turbo.
How do you know if you have a timing chain or a belt on your VW 2.0 turbo?
Was any RTV sealant used around the gasket? Or was a thorough cleaning of the timing chain cover sufficient to ensure a good seal?
I would like to know this too because on mine we used a sealant and the gasket just popped out on one side
With RTV sealant at only $6 from Home Depot you should get some to supplement the upper timing chain cover gasket (Mahle part no. T33325). With all this tricky labor needed, you don't want too have to do the job again.
I have a 2009 mercury Milan premier V6 engine and it needs a timing cover and a front seal gasket do I have to have the engine out to do it?
Do you have a video of the lower timing chain gasket? Or is my mechanic making that up??
+Sports World Recap We do not have a video for this repair right now, but we'll keep this request in mind for a future video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Excelent tutorial
Great video 👍
50K service at the dealership today led me to a Google search after they said I need to have this same repair. After watching the video, I'm seriously doubting their quoted $533. Thoughts on that quote if I don't have the space/tools to tackle this on my own, please?
BK Nelson what did you end up doing. Just got the same diagnosis on my Audi with the ea888. I’m skeptical. Never saw a drop of oil on the ground and don’t have oil consumption.
@@RitterTX I asked on Nextdoor for local recommendations since I'm new to this area - got a number of names that I can go to, instead. Haven't done it yet, though, as my cover only shows a very minor leak and my oil level is fine. The same dealership also recommended another equally priced issue with my oil/air separater - have to get that one confirmed/denied, too.
i took my car to a mechanic with this and they said it was an 8 hour job that would cost $1000! Madness
Vw wanted a 1000 😒
Will this process work for a 2012 cc?
yes
Would this be the same on a 2009 gti with the TSI engine that came out about half way through 2008 and for 2009?
Do we have to remove engine oil prior to do this?
Great video! and what's the name or part number of the O'ring you reused?
Was wondering the same thing I would like to replace that also
WHT007212
Vídeo top! Vc tem que tirar óleo pra fazer isso? Ou não precisa? Top video! Do you have to take oil to do this? Or do not need?
+RJD Games Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
What's the smaller round gasket called? I didn't see it on your site.
Do you have to take this off to get the valve cover off? 2012 gti
+David Vilchez Yes
Will this be the same process for a 2011 Audi a4 2.0t as well being that they are the same motor?
+Ryan Renebome We don't have a how-to video for your vehicle right now, but the basic steps in this video should be enough to do this task. Buy this part for your vehicle on 1AAuto.com: 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
+Ryan Renebome You should not need to put on any new sealer, as there is an o ring that should keep it from leaking. The previous owner appears to have added some, but it is not needed.
that gasket fit like an aftermarket for sure
This is all after you've drained the engine oil correct?
What size are those cam sensor screws?
Great video
Exelente, más claro no el agua 5 estrellas
There is no link here for the part, and it's not found on the site. Boooo.
Can you also make or recommend a video about replacing the water pump on the TSI 2.0 engine thanks.
+Steven Brown We are always making new videos and may be able to have one for your vehicle in the future.
Seconded.
Steven, did you try this on your 09 vw cc? This is one of the many problems with mine I was hoping to avoid the huge mechanic bill I was quoted
anybody know whats that o ring called that he replaced along with the upper timing chain gasket?
I'm thinking it might have been a camshaft seal, part number 06H 103 483 D.
Great job. Make our work more easy. Good luck
Thank you!!! How long did this take you?
+LocalDevin Thanks for checking us out. I'm sorry, but we do not have that information available!
I never tried it with the dipstick in place. I usually popped the wheel off and removed it but ill try next time. its a tight fit but I think it beats taking off the motor mount and bracket.
Thanks for checking us out. 1aauto.com +Ryan Tornai
I got a torque wrench but I don’t know how to set it
The O-Ring that is mentioned at 14:44 what is the part number for that? I can't find anything! Help!
WHT007212
need help on changine transmission filter 2010 kia forte ex pllzz Emilio from La
No need to open mounting engine?
which gasket did you use a upper or outter???
+Jay Lee Thanks for checking us out! This video shows the replacement of the Upper Engine Timing Cover Gasket. Please let us know if you have any further questions, thank you.
how long did this really take?
+Michael Hord Realistically if you have never done it before, you should budge an hour to and hour and half. But take your time and refer the video.
@@1AAuto how likely is it that the upper cover grommet screws/ fasteners fall into the timing housing when taking the cover off. I have a rouge grommet screw that fell off. I can't find it anywhere! I bought an endoscope and had a hard time getting it into and down the timing housing (the grommet screws are bigger than the endoscope) to look and couldn't find anything. Thoughts...or should I just hope to f@#k that its not down there? Thanks in advance.
Also what is that inner o-ring called// part number (14:40)?
where can i find the gasket kit at

Could this same method apply to the 09 VW CC
It may be a different procedure on your application. We currently do not have an auto repair video for this particular year, make and model. Thank you for asking. 1aauto.com +Steven Brown
if you car has 2.0t tsi engine is same as well
@@aifix8671 Thanks it's a TSI
Could you tell me what was the torque pounds that was used again.
The torque pounds specification for this installation was 80 in/lbs or 9 nm. Hope this helps! +Steven Brown
do i need to drain my oil to do this?
No need to remove oil.
Tanks
No part numbers?
how much you charge for the work to change the gasket

No reason to remove the coolant hoses with the reservoir
where can i send donations for a ratcheting 10mm wrench?!? that was painful to watch even with the edit.
would have rather seen you blow it out with air instead of a paper towel...
Is the 0 rung hard the change if that’s bad also
