Hello everyone.
This is still my most popular video and the one getting the most views, so I thought I'd leave an update here.
1. Sorry for the lack of regular uploads, truth be told I've been busy with IRL shit. The stress caused by that would result in new videos not being as good as I'd like them to be so I haven't done much progress, but that's over now so I'm back to working on videos like I used to (so still infrequent but no half a year long gaps).
2. The outro of this video is now outdated. POSTAL 3 has been removed from Steam, due to the fact that (as far as I know) newly bought copies wouldn't launch. It's something relating to the DRM. Either way, if you want to get a legal copy, go to "Zoom Platform" (store similar to GOG).

4. I have no idea when the next video will come out. I've been working on and off on 3 videos, and I have no idea if I finish them. The one I'm working on right now (which is POSTAL related!) might come out later this month (June) depending on if I decide to turn it into a bigger project (not as big as this one, but still pretty big)

I have friends who like Postal and I didn’t really get the appeal- satirical edgy media is kinda hard for me to get into in the first place, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing (Comedy is subjective so on so forth), but I wanna know more about the things my friends like. And this video did a great job of doing so, holy shit! Two hours long, and I saw that community post. Awesome job, dude, I can really feel your passion for the series. I’m still fairly certain Postal isn’t my kind of thing, but I certainly feel like I understand both the series and the people behind it a lot more, not to mention the fact that *jesus* I had no idea the series was so expansive and had so much going on. I’m only about halfway done with the video, but I really wanted to provide vocal support. I’ll always be a sucker for superfans of any kind of fictional media voicing their thoughts, especially in such a concise manner, because no matter what I’ll find myself watching feature length videos of something I wouldn’t give a damn about otherwise. I better see this thing at 1k by the end of the week.
Also, the subtitles were great! I have auditory issues, Huge kudos for sticking through and doing it for a two hour video, ontop of, you know, *making a two hour video*. Fucking cheers dude!!
Edit: I hate to say it, but 1:24:25 actively made me laugh my ass off, because it’s true. I don’t think I batted a single eye watching the og ending earlier in the video. I grew up roughly a daytrip away from Uvalde, and a good friend of mine actually had to go into lockdown on the 31st because her school was under fire. I vividly remember comforting her about the fact that she just had a crappy Halloween, which is screwed up in hindsight.
POSTAL (and similar pieces of media) definitely aren't for everyone, and that's ok! I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed my video despite not being a fan of these types of games/movies/whatever. Subtitles are kinda a necessity for me because I know some people have trouble understanding my Polish accent (already got two comments about it lol), I even got compared to a phone customer service agent once, and I want everyone to be able to understand what I'm saying. I wish more people bothered to make subtitles, they're a great accessibility feature.

you sir are a golden underrated one. hope you get the recognition you deserve as an obvious indie/cult following game enthusiast and putting all the info for the ones who probably know all this stuff anyway, its great to know there is someone putting the full effort into these kinds of videos. its a media mastery to be able to make such a dive into this kind of controversial rabbithole of a series, but you pull the shit off well. cool accent too, love the content and keep it up.
16:06 actually those dogs arent invincible, they just have a looooooot of health, i used one of the miniguns in paradise lost and was able to kill one but it took like a full minute of shooting, which is a ton because it damages about as fast as the chainsaw
honestly that postal 2 alpha feature where your actions have consequences is much better than how postal 3 did it, because it seems to me you'd in a way be rewarded for going postal with more opportunities to go postal with the robbers and shit, that sounds fun to me. free ammo walking right up to you.

An idea occurred to me, how about a game that is set during the events of postal 2 but seen from the point of view of a different person (something similar to the expansions of the first Half Life) would be a person somewhat different from the postal dude but according to the player's actions his mental health begins to deteriorate similar to postal 1. the game would take place in that small area that we saw in Apocalypse Weekend (although we could also visit postal 2 areas)

I havent finished this video yet but I actually had a visceral reaction at the pathologic mention... i love patho i love postal. Hm.
Just got this video sent to me by a friend, and was surprised to see Marphys comment from my comment section in the video! His comment was really weird to read and it exposed how RWS think in relation to game development and criticism. My review was far from positive and it was quite harsh I admit, but I think the way Marphy Black responded specifically was nothing short of disappointing.
I was also met with rude comments by the community manager of the game, essentially telling me to not theorize or talk about how things could have been handled during development, mainly due to consumers not needing to understand all aspects surrounding development.
That was when I sent my video to them over direct messages before it released on TH-cam, and that day I also learned how they planned to bugfix the game, with the process I was told being:
1: Bring the game to a port house to port it to console
2: The Porthouse fix the bugs
3: The bugfixes get backported to the PC version
I shit you not. I am still really disappointed in RWS, they are active with the community, but if they are met with someone that isn't a yes man, they turn sour quick. It is sad really. Gonna give the whole video a watch later :)
I appreciate you leaving a comment, your P4 videos and the responses to them definitely influenced my video. I could always tell there was something wrong with some aspects of the game but I couldn't quite pinpoint what many of the issues were until your 2nd review.
I definitely agree when it comes to RWS, it seems like they have a strong "you're either with us or against us" attitude, which was fine when the split between fans and haters was clear, but now that a large portion of their fanbase isn't happy it makes them look like assholes. I can only speak for myself, but I assume a large portion of the people who critique P4 have no ill intent, they just want a better game. The game's quality would be laughable if it cost 20 dollars, but when it costs 40 it's just sad.
The sad reality is, a huge portion of the fanbase will buy whatever RWS puts out, and they will defend it because "Hey, at least it's not Postal 3!", even if the game is actually less enjoyable than P3. As long as RWS can get away with selling bad games that repeat the same 3 or 4 jokes, they will. More people need to realize that they deserve better, and that disliking a game doesn't mean you're not a fan of the franchise.
@@Botul1 I think what RWS did to have such fan loyalty, was building an incredibly appealing brand. They sell great merch, have an edgy and confrontational social media presence and they make sure to ride on Postal 2's wave of success and media reception as much as possible.
You also hear the same few lines from them over and over again, especially when they use Postal 2 as a positive example of their influence in the gaming industry.
"Look at us! We continually update a 20 year old game!"
Failing to mention that most of these updates are inclusions of mods that were community made. Not to knock them, but that would be worth addressing. Additionally, a previous game being in a good state, doesn't excuse subsequent games from being lackluster.
"Haha, our games DO suck!"
RWS constantly joke around about how shit and tasteless their games are, but genuinely, that is not true! POSTAL is a pretty good game and POSTAL 2 was an expertly crafted experience, however now they are talking themselves down pretending to have always been terrible for... no other reason I can muster up aside from doing damage control by "being self aware".
And the one I love the most "Man the Russian devs that worked on Postal 3 just sucked amirite?"
I love this one most because it is a deflection of culpability. Just deflect any criticism towards your company by stating that the russians fucked it all up, smearing ex developers in the process who in spite of lackluster game design on RWS's part and an economic crisis, actually managed to flesh out interesting environments and having done the best that they could with a project that was doomed to fail as it was only pushed onto market because RWS needed money... something they kind of did with the surprise release of Postal 4.
And this last thing BTW is something Marphy Black did in my comment chain as well targeting Postal 2, and it is something I do NOT take lightly personally. Think what you will about any of the games, but if the game designer of the newest game goes on record defending his baby by shittalking a vastly superior product that was worked on by his predescessors, it shows that the legacy that was left behind is not respected and that the game designer cannot burden the responsibility of crafting a game experience. I remember playing 1.0 vanilla versions of Postal 2 and all I can say to that is that unlike what Marphy Black has said, the game ran stable enough and the core of the product wasn't rotten. It is a game built on a solid foundation, with many emergent mechanics coming together perfectly.
If RWS cannot appreciate their past genius, actively tarnishing their own line of games simply as an excuse for their newest game sucking, I just cannot appreciate who they are as a company right now. It's sad, really.
@@Cheecken I 100% agree. The way I interpret RWS claiming that their games "were always bad" or that "P2 also sucked on release" is that it's simple manipulation. People enjoy P2 because it's a good game, many people don't enjoy P4 because it's a bad game. If the old thing you like is/was also bad, then hating the new thing for being bad is hypocritical. I genuinely can't think of another reason why they would keep saying that, especially if P2's launch issues were trivial when P4's launch issues are fundamental to the game and will never change. It's fascinating, really. They have to praise themselves for supporting an old game to this day (which is mostly a lie), while also pretending like that game was actually really bad.
I think the way they respond to P4 criticism is interesting, because something similar has already happened before. For a while after P3's release, RWS defended the game. In an interview, Vince said: "The good news is that Akella has been making updates to fix a lot of the problems so gamers getting the game now have a much better experience.". Sounds familiar, doesn't it? I 100% believe that if P4 was made by a different studio they would have shifted the blame to them. The only things I can think of that they could blame is them running out of money (which is 100% their fault) and COVID (which they can't blame, as they are a remote studio).
On a related note, Mike J once said on the I Regret Nothing podcast that Brain Damaged exists because Hyperstrange asked RWS if they could make P4, not knowing that RWS was secretly already making it. We could have gotten their attempt at a mainline Postal game, but instead we're stuck with No Regerts.
@@Botul1 Judging by what I have seen from Brain Damaged, I believe we could have gotten an amazing game! I didn't buy Brain Damaged personally as I am a bit burnt out from the spam of arena shooters we have been getting, but from what I have seen it is a competently made game. RWS could learn a lot from them!
And true, Postal 3 initially did see support from RWS, they had to support the game, but seeing that Akella was in trouble and couldn't really financially recover, they chose to save face and kicked them while they were down. I like most others believed RWS's side of the story, however now I am more sympathetic towards Akella. I also would encourage anyone to actually play Postal 3 if they can get a copy for free somehow (legit just pirate it) just so they can observe for themselves what the problems with the game really are. There are many problems there, and the game does suck, but I outright fell in love with the leveldesign at parts!

@@CheeckenIn my personal opinion, Brain Damaged is up there with P2 in terms of quality. The game happening only in the Dude's head gave them the opportunity to make pretty much whatever they wanted, and they use that to make really cool levels and enemies. I don't find everything in the game funny, but it manages a fine line between P4's "poop/sex funny" and P2's satire. I think the best thing RWS could do with Postal is get Hyperstrange to make P5, they've clearly proven themselves.
P3 definitely gets treaten unfairly. It's a bad game, yeah, but it's just that. It's not digital hitler, it's just a game with many issues. There's some enjoyment to be had here. People will repeat the "Postal 3 is the WORST!" dogma even though at least half of the people who say that haven't played the game. I'm shocked that most RWS tweets about P3 being bad get 1k+ likes, how many times can people see the exact same joke and still laugh?

EDIT: Forgot to mention, but I don't really agree with some parts of this video anymore, mainly the P3 section. I made it after only playing through both paths twice, and now I think I appreciate the game a lot more. It's still not good, but I don't think it's irredeemable garbage. I might make a separate video about it somewhat soon.

Tbh morality system in postal 2 at least sounds better than whatever postal iii did.
P3's morality failed because it was a binary good/bad system that only punished lethal gameplay instead of adjusting the game to fit whatever way the player is playing. It could have worked if it was handled differently.

You really hit nail in the head with postal 4 . I played around same version as you did and I was appalled at how bad the game was. Unlike you, I absolutely hate the game and think it's fundamentally flawed and no amount of patches will fix it. It's a complete disgrace compared to postal 2 and it's just the bad game overall. I really love how at least in that version, they dared to call it 1.0 but still have unfinished checkerboard models in houses with missing textures and stuff (i'm surprised you didin't point this out lol). But the ego of the devs for that game is just insane as well, I think it's a doomed project.
My opinion on Postal 4 has worsened a lot since this video came out lmao. To be honest, the whole "I don't hate the game" thing was slightly cope, it's like a sick dog that RWS refuses to put down.

W sumie ucieszyłem się, że mamy całkiem podobny gust co do gier w serii. Paradise Lost jest dla mnie naprawdę jedną z najlepszych rzeczy które powstały z Postala, a czwórka... no cóż, szkoda jej. Żadne śmieszne/ciekawe wątki fabularne nie zostały w żaden sposób pociągnięte dalej, bo po co - głupi twist z ojcem Kolesia który nie ma sensu, po prostu mają wyjebane. I to trochę boli. Bo gdyby poszli w bardziej ImSim-owe i otwarte elementy możnaby naprawdę zrobić coś nowego i dobrego.
Według mnie problem jest w tym że RWS nie rozumie co w poprzednich grach było świetne. Świat był mały, ale pełny ciekawych rzeczy. Postal 4 musi mieć duży otwarty świat, bo musi go mieć i tyle. Co z tego że nie ma w nim nic ciekawego. Zobaczyli że ludzi bawiło sikanie na ludzi w dwójce, to cały humor zamienili w żarty o szczynach, seksie i gównie. Wątpie że zobaczymy kiedykolwiek kolejnego dobrego głównego Postal'a od RWS, można tylko liczyć że spin-offy stworzone przez innych ludzi będą tak dobre jak Brain Damaged.

I seriously doubt that P4 will get a major rework, with how much effort that would take they might as well make a new game

Wish to see that top down mobile Postal game remade in Postal 2.
Brain Damaged is by far my favorite game in the series and has more interesting satire and jokes in it than POSTAL 4.
i do have faith that RWS can turn POSTAL 4 around tho. there's a decent base there, it just needs *a lot* more work, but i do share your concern with how much could actually be changed with the game now being "officially released". we're already seeing that they're not above overhauling entire parts of the map and adding requested features.
i feel there's at least a chance we could see some story re-works, but probably not anything too crazy.
I agree on Brain Damaged, but I doubt that P4 will ever be good, it might be a 6/10 if they polish everything up but it's a game flawed almost to it's core. I do hope you're right though
Postal 4s team is actually working on remaking a lot of the missions, fixing 3rd person, adding multiplayer, and making the world less empty so at least thats coming soon
Also Mike J has said a LOT that they didn’t want to go into 1.0 just yet but because they, again, needed the funding, they released it for consoles. I have faith that 4 will become very fun in the coming years
@@Kevin_Spencer I respect that Running with Scissors didn't abandon the game, but I think a lot of POSTAL 4's issues are fundamental, and changing them would require a complete rework of the game. Adding more stuff to the map only solves half of the "the map is big and empty" issue. Same with the missions, you can make them more fun to play, but that doesn't make them funny. I understand why P4 was rushed into 1.0, they needed money, but I think that's ultimately their fault, and they can (and, in my opinion, should) be criticized for it. I don't have the numbers or the full story, only RWS has that, but the way I see it they refused funding through things like Kickstarter or an outside publisher ("Working with a publisher this early on would have no doubt seen us having to hold back on some of the more outrageous ideas we have planned" I can't think of a single "outrageous idea" in the game) going with the path that would most likely give them less of a budget, they spent that budget, and then when they got money from a rushed (and shitty) 1.0 build they wasted it on unnecessary shit like Zack Ward which, yeah, it's cool, but there were so many better ways to use that budget. The game is mismanaged, not funny, and not that fun. That's all there is to it I think.

I originally wanted to include Eternal Damnation, but really I just ran out of time, and I really wanted to release it exactly on the 25th anniversary of the series. I included Corkscrew RuLes because it's more or less an official addon, it's also a quick and easy topic where I don't have much to say about it, though maybe in the future if I come up with enough stuff to say I'll make a separate video for it. Eternal Damnation is definitely something I want to make a video on because it's a pretty interesting mod.
@@Botul1 its understandable, either way your vid is really good, if you ever try eternal damnation i would reccomend the steam port over the original 2006 version since it doesnt have a lot of the issues and problems the original has
@@UnknownRedST I've been following the porting process of the Steam version of ED for a long time before it came out, and having played through it recently, I agree. I tried recording footage of ED for this video (before I cut the whole ED part out) and the original ED is so unstable I gave up half way through. Thanks for the kind words.

I hope that Brain Damaged proved to RWS that outsourcing the franchise to other devs is a good idea, Brain Damaged is the best entry since POSTAL 2.

@@arnon8906 To be fair Postal is very popular in Russia, Brazil and Poland, so when you hear someone with an accent like mine talk about it's basically a dice roll deciding which one of those the person is from. I kinda wish I had at least a basic understanding of the Russian language and culture to be able to make a more in depth video about Corkscrew RuLes, because it seems like an interesting time capsule

I did consider getting someone else, but that would just make the nightmare that was the production of this video even worse, especially with how many times I had to change things in the Postal 4 section of the video as the game got updated. I know many have trouble understanding my accent, that's why I make english subtitles for all my videos
