I've started watching this show recently, and I'm up to the last 4 episodes of volume 5. I also started this show along side with One piece (11 episodes in) and Digimon adventure 2 (7 episodes in). Once tou get real deep into the series, it is REALLY fun to look up fan theories and ships for RWBY. Once everyone has been fighting together and grown to truly care about each other. The character dynamics are so beautiful, and the diehard fans make spectacular head canons for this show.
The milk joke is an USA thing. The reason for it is because the milk industry has a huge chokehold in the USA and advertized buying milk products like it was our god given right. US kids grew up with commercials and posters with the slogans 'Got Milk?' and tv ads constantly telling us 'milk will make your bones strong' etc. We grew up with the mindset that we need milk to be big and strong and healthy. Its interesting to see a non american react to that joke haha

Yeah the short episodes and shadow people are a result of V1 having like... no budget lol If you're enjoying V1 despite its rough edges, you'll be happy to know V2 improves on it in every way. Longer episodes. More detailed backgrounds. More fights. Better fights. Better jokes. More plot. It's a big step up. Still very low budget! But you can really see them gaining steam in V2
