To clarify the confusion Mikey was right. They went after him because he was trying to defect from the White Fang. They were using the “book” as a cover up. Him not having that certain book, despite claiming “to have every book under the sun”, was the symbolism for him leaving the White Fang despite being sworn in. Hence the “Don’t make promises you can’t keep”
It's possible that "The Third Crusade" is a book about Faunus revolution and is somewhat controversial, which is why he'd get nervous at the mention of it.

Kind of like modern Christianity not liking the idea of bringing up the crusades.

@@johnnygnoneeded I've heard that in a couple of comments but really I think its still best summed up as one big pull just to give that ideology of keeping promises. Sure the idea of lore adds on to it but I think it works fine in the context without the flavor text.
One of the books Emerald asks for "The thief and the butcher". The thief (emerald) and the butcher (mercury).
I always thought Tukson stole something from the White Fang and Emerald and Mercury were the butchers.
The reason why the baguettes were not easily broken is because they can transfer their aura to their weapons so that it doesnt easily break.

Yup, the creator Monty Oum did Lie Ren's voice in season 1 and 2. After he passed away, his brother Neath Oum took on the role from season 3 onward.
Also, the lady in red named Cinder Fall is voiced by the famous cosplayer Jessica Nigri. She's been a fan and close friend of Rooster Teeth for quite a while.
It took me a long time to realize that she was based on Cinderella. I was always wondering why her heels kept making those distinct clinks when she walked. Because they’re glass. Duh.
Just say Cinder for now, they haven't said her last name yet.

The book and "false advertising" thing was just for the drama to be honest, like she says right after, "you shouldn't make a promise you can't keep", it's about him trying to leave the White Fang.

The music is honestly REALLY important in this show, to know who they're about to really know the lyrics and stuff... you guys could do like with the Naruto filler episodes and post it separately?? i don't know. Honestly just really looking forward to the possibility, and i know that at least Rana would love it =P
If they reacted to the songs some things would be spoiled if they haven't been already. So they could listen to songs from the previous episodes possibly but it would be better for a soundtrack reaction after the 3rd season or something.

I honestly forgot all about this season and only remembered a few major details in it. This volume honestly hooked me on the series more than the first volume but it wasn’t a HUUUGE step-up like volume three
@@oliviareacts7967 funny story, I joined to RWBY very late. I watched the full volume videos roosted created. I joined and saw ship wars and fights alongside fandom but the story is amazing and is amazing to see the growth of the show as well as the fandom. Is an interesting story and vol. 2 I think is great. While my favorite is vol 3, but is just my personal opinion.
There is one character I'm really excited for, I dont know what to say to hint at who I'm talking about without just saying Ice Cream. XD

"I'm queen of the castle" comes from Volume 1 when Nora sang that as she grabbed the white rook relic, since rook chess pieces look like castles
Also there’s a children’s rhyme/song that goes “🎵I’m King of the Castle....and you’re the dirty rascal🎵”.
No idea if there’s anything more to it like a whole song, but that’s the part I remember growing up.

Mikey was right, Emerald and Mercury were there to eliminate him because he was defecting. So far, all the named baddies are humans, and the White Fang is a Faunus group, so they're working with the White Fang and using them for their evil plans. If someone's trying to run away...that's a loose end.
In regards to the food fight, it's been stated that people can infuse anything with their aura, so basically they supercharged the food to be strong enough for fighting. And they also have their own aura, so that's how they can take the beating from like, 50 soda cans to the face.

@@Ny333OST Aura, as Juane put it in chapter 6 of volume 1, is like a "force field" in it protects a person and infuses items with power so it's not magic.
Dust is more along the lines of alchemy, not magic. It's supposed to be a replacement for magic.
Now the Maidens are able to use magic, so there you are correct.
They're all supernatural and therefore magic. It's just that the people of remnant have been using some forms for so long, that they take it for granted and not supernatural anymore. For us the viewer however they are all magic.

Welcome to the most epic food fight on the internet. "All our weapons and equipment are conduits for aura," therefore melee baguettes beat ballistic watermelons. The highlights in Cinder's dress glow with her eyes; dust can be woven into clothing, something to bear in mind for later.
Like some others have already commented - you really should react to the soundtrack of the volumes. They've put a lot of character design and development into the songs (no song is placed just to 'be there', there's a point with everything)

I think this is an obligatory comment on every RWBY reactor(s)'s video when they reach this episode: aura can be extended into objects (like weapons, or in this case, food). It's how the leeks and baguettes and everything didn't just disintegrate on contact and why people actually got "hurt" when they got hit by it.
They didn't put Ruby turning into rose petals in the first season, but I think it was more because of just animating budget or being unsure how to animate it rather than a deliberate decision. Its part of her semblance: she can use it at "lower power" to just move fast, but her actual semblance is the ability to burst into a fast-moving cloud of rose petals.
Rana was right, the two characters from the start (Mercury and Emerald) were the two in the shadows behind Cinder in the after-credits scene after the season 1 finale.
As far as I can tell "Third Crusade" isn't actually a book but it's like a codeword. Basically, by asking for the book and him saying he didn't have it Emerald confirmed that he was abandoning the White Fang. And because he was deserting, Emerald and Mercury killed him. Cinder was mad because she explicitly told the two of them not to draw any attention to themselves while in Vale and killing people isn't exactly low profile.
"I'm queen of the castle, I'm queen of the castle" Not sure exactly what its referencing, but you could be remembering Nora saying it before because she chanted it when she picked up the Rook piece in "Players and Pieces"
I believe the quote is from the children's game "King of the hill".
Every season opening will be a cold open and the intro song will be at the end of the episode. Season 2 and 6 are my favorite intros. I love all of them though.
Mercury and Emerald Attacked Tuxan because he was a member of the White Fang and was going to leave the fight and run away to another kingdom called Vacuo, it actually had nothing to do with the books. They just asked to bring tension.
To this day I think the food fight is probably my favorite fight in this entire show. As much as I love a lot of the other fights, I just think it was the perfect amount of action, comedy, and showing how each characters personality in their fighting. I also think it was very creative in the way they made the food to work as their weapons. (The food was especially strong because they put their Aura in it, making the celery, and bread stronger.)

It also explains why Ren doesn't talk much. Monty didn't have much time to do the voice-acting with all of the animation he was doing.

Ren starts talking more after Monty's death, from volume 4 on. He still doesn't talk a lot, but he does get more lines than he gets up to that point. He talks about as much in chapter 1 of that volume as he had done the entire series up to that point.

Mercury is voiced by Yuri Lowenthal, the same actor who does Sasuke and Peter Parker in the new spiderman game and cinder is voiced by Jessica Nigri, a pretty big cosplayer. Just so you guys know

Just as an FYI the intro song is always played at the end of the first chapter in every Volume just like there's typically always a post credits scene at the end of the last chapter of every Volume.

The day this episode came out, I must've watched it at least 4 times since I was working at a camp, I watched it, then I shared it with others, then I watched it again. It got to the point where I saw someone else watching it, couldn't hear it, but had memorized the music and was humming along with it.

the bit at the end where Mercury says "I think he was some sort of cat." and Emerald responded "What, like a Puma?" is a reference to Red vs Blue, one of the early season where they get the Warhog, and say it looks like a Puma. There's a lot of self reference in RWBY

It was pretty clear that Emerald and Mercury killed that guy because he was a White Fang defector. There were several lines of dialog about it.

It took me forever to get what character Emerald was based on til it was pointed out to me what Torchwick called her at the end of the episode.

Tukson actually did have the book. It was right next to the headlight fluid. He just realized what they were actually there for and decided to get on with it

Only bad volume for animation downgrade is Volume 4. They REALLY struggled to find their feet after Monty and the engine switch was costly.
But by volume 6 it was the best it ever looked, even if choreography has never quite matched RvB's freelancer saga.

2:57 if you ever do one piece reactions, please consider watching the 'one pace' fan edit as it cuts out a lot of the stretched out scenes (originally done so the anime wouldnt catch up to the manga), making it the truest adaption to the manga.
I had to drop the wano arc in the anime because the pacing was so bad but 'one pace' got me right back on.
That’s a bad idea, especially for people who are just starting the series. It’s more for people who are caught up or have read the manga. That shouldn’t be their first experience with the series, maybe after they catch up or get to a point after the time skip then they could decide that for themselves.
@@macfraud9862 I'd slightly agree with the last point you made about starting one pace after the timeskip. In regard to pre time skip, the stretching isnt much of an issue. However, post time skip, the one piece anime creates an inferior experience. 5 minutes per episode of characters screenshot reactions and explanations to what we just saw on screen is unecessary (half of dressrosa arc). Re using the same animation on loop to drag out the runtime of an episode is unnecessary (luffys sumo match). One pace gets rid of that and keeps 100% of whats from the manga but also the good extra bits that the anime added i.e they keep the extended batte of luffy vs kaido that the anime added because it was a good addition.
there is a reason why people react to HXH 2011 instead of the original, Dororo remake instead of the original, fate unlimited bladeworks instead of the original. It because the remakes are the superior model. One pace is in the the same boat, its just that not a lot of people know about it. There is absolutely no reason (correct me if you think of one) to watch the one piece anime POST timeskip over one pace. Pre time skip one piece is fine though, and i would still recommend watching filler arcs (except the dragon filler) as one piece does filler better than any other shonen.
This show is honestly just absolutely epic, but HOLY CRAP DOES IT TAKE SOME DARK TURNS

So fun fact/fan theory, huntsman use their Aura to strengthen their weapons whenever they fight. So technically they should be able to do the same to their food weapons.

I know it was said before and mentioned among a lot of info in Volume 1 about Aura, but Aura can not only shield your body from harm (so they could take those massive hits that would wreck a normal person) and they can coat their weapons in Aura, which strengthens the weapon (or the food in this case) to be strong enough to replicate their weapons.
Nora saying "I'm Queen of the Castle!" Is a reference to her saying back in Volume 1 when she picked up the Rook ending.
Glenda Goodwitch that came in at the end, her semblance is a type of Telekinesis, so she can kinda rewind items back to the way they were.
Also, blue hair guy is named Neptune. Sun said his name, but it was in the middle of all of stuff going on. Sun also said the name Scarlett too.
Nora's saying it in volume 1 is in reference to the children's game "king of the hill".

fun fact: before volume 2 came out, they released an image of ruby holding weiss as if she just died (how she is in the food fight) but they removed all the food, making it seem like weiss dies this volume.

I was kinda expecting a reaction on the "what like a Puma?" line, that's classic Red vs Blue
-The reason for the food fight was a gift to the fans. The fans had been discussing who would win if RWBY faced off against JNPR. It was a way to give it to the fans without the teams actually hurting each other.
-While explaining to Jaune what Aura is, in the first volume, Pyrrha mentioned that "all of [their] tools and equipment are conduits for aura" which you can see in their volume 1, chapter 6 reaction at 8:17. Most people seem to have forgotten her saying that so they say that it's "really stale bread" when in actuality it's them using the food items as "conduits for" that aura. That's why you really have to pay close attention to what is said. It will often be used in later episodes or even later volumes.
-I hadn't noticed it until someone pointed it out to me but look at how Ren, Pyrrha, and Juane reacted to Weis getting hit in the face with the pie at 8:19 in the video. Ren's reaction was "See no evil", Pyrrha's was "Speak no evil", and Juane is covering his right ear as "hear no evil". They love to throw in subtle things like that.
-Oh, and the guy who was killed at the beginning was more like Sabertooth than it was Wolverine. Wolverine has 3 long claws while Sabertooth has the claws come as the lengthening of his fingernails.
-Also, you asked where everyone else went during the food fight. When Sun entered you saw everyone running passed him, out of the cafeteria, screaming.
-You also get a new intro every volume and all first chapters for a volume have the intro at the end of the chapter. After the first chapter the intro is put in it's normal place.

Glenda Goodwitch's semblence i think is telekenesis and is very strong. Cinder Fall is voiced by Jessica Nigri. Every season has a new intro :D
The reason for why they could with baguette etc. is that they can put aura into them (as far as I remeber)

Fact1: Originally, the RWBY crew considered including a shot after Mercury and Emerald leave Tukson's store, wherein the audience is given a view of Tukson's blood spattered on a wall inside the store.
Fact 2: Ruby, when explaining her plans to have the best day ever, references famous statements made by figures in American history.
Her speech, "Four score and seven minutes ago", starts similarly to Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, "Four score and seven years ago..".
This line also references the movie Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, as in the movie, Abraham Lincoln says "four score and seven minutes ago" towards the end of the film.
When Weiss accuses Ruby of stealing her binder, Ruby says that she is not a crook; a statement made by Richard Nixon.
She also referenced Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech.
Fact 3: Nora's boo at Yang's pun is a reference to how people respond to the puns made by Barbara Dunkelman, often getting groans and boos from others.
Fact 4: Right before the food fight, Ruby points at Team JNPR the same way Phoenix Wright does from the Ace Attorney series whenever he performs an objection.
Fact 5: Nora saying "Off with their heads" is a reference to the Queen from Alice in Wonderland.
Fact 6: During the food fight scene, several of the vending machines used in the barricade, as well as many of the cans flung about, have "People Like Grapes" printed on their front. This is a reference to a famous quote by Gavin Free, which is also used on a popular Rooster Teeth shirt.
Other food products include "Dr. Piper" (likely a reference to Dr. Pepper, as well as a likely reference to Peter Piper), "Ol' King Cold" (a reference to Old King Cole), and a milk carton called "Udder Satisfaction"
Fact 7: When Ren strikes the tables after getting tripped up by Weiss' ketchup puddle, a bowling pin sound can be heard when he makes impact. This noise was first used in the episode "Black and White" when Penny Polendina knocks down a group of White Fang members.
Fact 8: The last few seconds of the score from the food fight sequence are used as the outro for several Rooster Teeth animated shows.
Fact 9: The first book Emerald asks Tukson about is "The Thief and the Butcher", a title that coincides with the roles of Emerald and Mercury respectively.
The Juane/Juane lookalike that gets thrown up against the glass is in the same position as you see those cats that are up on the windows in cars.
When Ruby goes super speed, it's the music from Ruby's Red Trailer.
"I'm queen of the castle" is in reference to her comment in the first volume which was a reference to the children's game "King of the hill".
The milk that Ruby crushes in her hand was also in reference to Ruby's saying "I don't need people to help me grow up, I drink milk" in the lockeroom of the first volume.
The end where team JNPR are hanging on the wall is not art, but referencing the children's cylinder shaped toy, a kaleidoscope.
One I've wondered about is the possibility that Yang getting hit so hard into the air that she doesn't come down for a long time might, might be a reference to the quote in the old black and white tv series "The Honeymooners" where Ralph says, "Bang zoom! To the moon". If it was, it was for us older people watching RWBY.

That's a slight spoiler, you know. Unless they specifically ask for it, don't say anything.
Roman and the white fang failed in their mission at the end of season 1. So Tuscan was going to do a runner.
"do you have the thief and the butcher?" when Emerald says that, it's also an Easter egg reference to the fact that Emerald is a thief and mercury is a butcher. The reference to the third crusade may have been a plot line that got lost after Monty Oum's death (whose brother replaced him as the VA for Ren). The two directors that took over left are Kerry (the voice of Neptune/blue hair), and Miles (Jaune).
When Emerald and Mercury reference that Tuscan is "like a Puma", it's in reference to an old episode of Red Versus Blue, another RT show, where they're discussing why the jeep in Halo is called. Warthog when it looks more like a Puma.
Also, Cinder (Cinderella) is voiced by Jessica Nigri, who I think was the first non-RT employee to have a speaking role at the time.
I think that's all the interesting trivia for this episode.
Oh "I'm queen of the castle" is just a children's rhyme when playing as to who can be at the highest point (like Nora is)
"I'm queen/king of the castle, and you're the dirty rascal".
It's to further punctuate that a lot of the main characters are references to fairy tales and childish stories.
