    My husband and I are Alocasia collector's and with any plant we immediately quarantine them and spray them down. Love your video and we can't wait to see more. Thanks neighbor 😊

    Thanks for the pest control tips. I didn’t realize they were so prevalent, yikes! Can’t wait to try your soil mix in my tropicals.

    • @ThePlantProblem
      @ThePlantProblem  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are so welcome! Careful what you use it on. This mix is great for alocasia, not so much probably for things like pothos or scindapsus!

    This is honestly so informational! I had a beautiful baby odora when I started collecting and not as informed as I am now and she kept getting root rot so frequently after each recovery and unfortunately died:( and I am from Facebook but I love this video!!

    • @ThePlantProblem
      @ThePlantProblem  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh my goodness, thank you so much for telling me this and sharing!
      Yes! Mosquito bits are always a good idea. I mentioned that it's preventative but I missed the informational point that mosquito bits are going to make it so their larvae can't metamorphosize into their adult forms and fly around. The pot will eventually stop being a problem for you if you use mosquito bits.
      Adult fungus gnats will still be adult fungus gnats and are not going to die from the mosquito bits. Sticky traps or those fancy Katchy things are a good idea to catch the adults. If you add mosquito bits to all your pots, the fungus gnats should all be gone in about 2 weeks. (A tablespoon or two per 6" pot is usually what I do)

    The only downside for me as a plant collector is the spider mites magnet on Alocasia. So, maybe this is the only plant I would keep as my collection but not buying more than that. Anyways thank u so much for the guides!

    Why my alocasia macrorhiza variegata leaves become smaller and smaller..?

  • @clairejain5589
    @clairejain5589 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    That makes me feel so much less insane for you to say that Alocasias are spider mite magnets right off the bat. I thought it was just me!

    • @ThePlantProblem
      @ThePlantProblem  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They really are just magnets for mites! It doesn't seem to matter how clean I keep the place, with dogs -- I always end up finding some mites around the house every couple months and they're usually hanging out on my alocasias lol
