    I’m an American living and learning badminton in China. Follow me on my journey from total newb to (hopefully) expert player both on my blog and my vlog! Like most Americans I had never played badminton seriously or even knew that it was a real sport until I moved to China and fell in love with it. I feel very lucky that I get to learn the sport in China although it definitely brings it’s own challenges both with the different language and culture. I will share both the victories, frustrations and every embarrassing moment in between with you.
    You can see video about my first 2 years of progress here: • Badminton Progress
    Please support me on Patreon! Since I live in China every dollar goes further here and I’d like badminton to go viral and make a bigger impact on mainstream culture. I think if more people were exposed to badminton then they would love it. Help me make badminton more popular and get some exclusive perks! / badmintonbecky

      Thanks. I'm a new youtuber (not even 6 months yet) so it takes time to find an audience. But feel free to tell your friends and have them subscribe! Haha. I'd love more of course.

    I watch your vlog because you express your thoughts positively. I wish my badminton sessions were like yours. The other day my opponent smashed the shuttle, after losing the rally, into a wall before hitting it over to me so I could serve again. I just took it out from my tube.

      It was not very fun to live through! haha. We found out a few days later that Chaozhou had the largest increase of travelers for any city in China during the Spring Festival holiday! And the day I was there was the most popular day. "Lucky" me.

    Most of the time players in your town plays double.Why not singles...?

    • @BadmintonBecky
      @BadmintonBecky  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We play singles a lot, but usually after 9:30 or 10pm when there are less people. Doubles just includes more people so we tend to play it more as we have a lot of people!

    Hi new sub here, glad you enjoy Chinese new year. but never the traffic at holiday time. it made me won't drive in China.
    Is that a method for the coach to practice the driver's reaction?

      @BadmintonBecky  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ha, yeah. If you are quick on the badminton court then you are quick to react in Chinese traffic! :P

    when your tension with 30 pounds is low, then what is my tension than with 28.5 lbs? haha. And I am a professional player guess that is quite an unusual tension then.
    EDIT: Nevermind understood something wrong. Nice vlog your coach seems to be very happy with you guys around him

    • @BadmintonBecky
      @BadmintonBecky  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haha, no problem. My normal tension is 27 so 30 is an increase for sure. I just hate when I see beginners or low intermediates trying for 30 or even 34lb tension! They think it will make them "stronger" when really it will just injure them. But I really did like that racket I borrowed from my coach! And yeah, my coach was so excited to show off his friends. ;)

      @CamiloBorst 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BadmintonBecky hmm interesting in Germany I have never seen beginners try to high tension. Most of them play with a very low tension

    • @BadmintonBecky
      @BadmintonBecky  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CamiloBorst Yeah. There is kind of a macho feeling with some people here (not the top players, more the intermediate to beginner players) that higher tension means higher skill (as the pro's have higher tension). But they don't realize that actually it's not suitable for just normal players. They also think they can "train" for higher tension (like increase their arm strength) and don't realize they need to increase their skill for higher tension to be worth it. I get very annoyed when I see a low level player wanting 30 or more pound tension!

    • @TheHi-T
      @TheHi-T 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My tension is 25 lbs. I know players who have it at 28-30 playing exclusively nylon shuttles. Despite being injured all the time they won't switch to feather shuttles.

      @@BadmintonBecky , Is it rude for single guys to order chicken feet when eating out with a group of single girls? They met at badminton.

    • @BadmintonBecky
      @BadmintonBecky  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheHi-T I don't think so? I mean, chicken feet don't smell bad or anything, but some people are grossed out by it, so if you are the only one that wants to eat them, then maybe it's better to skip them.

      @@BadmintonBecky So I calmy asked if her & I are on a date and if she would like to go on a date with me. I knew her answer would be no. If she had said yes then we go on one. If it doesn't work out then we'd be friends. She eventually left the group - too competitive. She was a beginner level player. I only ordered chicken feet. As a gentleman I let her & her girlfriends order whatever they wanted to eat. I did it to find out her table manners & ettiquette. 😆
