The reason Merrin's head burned the possessed Sarah's head was because when he picked up his crucifix, he sees the holy water on the floor and then he dips his finger in the holy water and makes a cross on his forehead. I'd also like to think that the main lesson in the story of The Beginning is that you can find light even in the darkest of places.
I completely agree with your opening statement. That's why I get so frustrated when non film enthusiasts assume adapting a book is such an easy task since it's written, "just do that" they say, but no, it completely removes the artistic element and ideals of the creatives involved. It's going to vary no matter what, even if somehow a product has all the logistical elements required. And your experiment has been done a few times, especially in film schools, I had to do it once myself, and it's pretty fun seeing how it pans out. Ours went from a sort of drama piece about a pair of sisters that developed into a horror comedy about an undead sister ruining her older sisters date lol
I feel like Dominion was a bit more consistent however The Beginning felt more satisfying, even if the pops were cheaper, but better. I like both but I think that The Beginning shines a little more.
Fan of the Exorcist since about 86. When I turned 18 lol. Anyway I only recently watched these 2 prequels and I actually found both enjoyable in their own ways. So that's my take. Hopefully not too controversial lol. Great video Brother. 😊
I caught the tail end of the live stream and am amazed how quickly you uploaded a new video; you must be the most hard working TH-camr out there. I appreciate the quality of your content considering the absence of editing. Thanks for the recommending Circle; I will check it out.
i just watch The begining version and its much better then Dominion and i have to say I think Joesph was in fact possesed by either god in protection or by pazuzu to make everyone think it was him and not Sarah also when Merrin touched foreheads with sarah remember he put holy water there so thats why she got burned
It felt to me like Beginning got run through a focus group and they took out everything anyone had a problem with, and then the movie got watered down until we ended up with Dominion. It's just bleh and meh in comparison to Beginning. However, there was some good philosophical dialog with Merrin and Rachel in Dominion.
Hey Great video, I had just recently re-watched all 5 Exorcist Movies. The Reason Father Merrin burnt Sarah when he put his head to hers is because he had put a cross on his forehead with holy water.
Great review! The movie "beginning" is OK, but the CGI is so horrendous, I don't know why but in horror movies I have less tolerance to bad CGI, like "It" that it's very good but the bad CGI keep taking me out of the movie (balloons, the blood in the bathroom, etc etc) . So many good movies spoiled with bad and unnecessary CGI. I have to check Dominion by the way
The Beginning was more entertaining for sure. Dominion, well, it was worth a try. I'm kinda glad The Beginning made the tribe more of a focal point though and they didn't try to make them seem so ungodly.
Actually they literally used 90% of the exact same cast. Literally they only changed the Female Doctor Actress, they got rid of the weird bald chinese guy that didn't belong and used a new actor for Fr Francis. Everyone else the soldiers and the site and everything are exactly the same
I think I saw these but Holy Shit The way you are describing them, It seems like the Gore factor is right up there with the Original, Thanks so much Jay for covering so many entire series, Just one of the reasons that makes you're channel one of the best
The Beginning was the better done film in my opinion. LOVE the blasphemous imagery with the upside down crucified christ in the church. definitely keeps up with the original and III. thanks for covering this series! 🙏🏾 HOLY SWEAT 🤣🤣🤣!!!
U CAN SAY THE exact same thing with dr. sleep, and the shining....all 4 films were very good and u can look at them however u want to.....but u CANNOT SAY THESE TAKEAWAY ANYTHING FROM THE ORIGINALS
I think the idea of a prequal was a good idea in principal, although I was disappointed with both Exorcist: the Beginning and Dominion. Too many clichés and too predictable. I wonder what would have been the result had William Peter Blatty had had a hand in a prequal... that said, they were marginally better than Exorcist II.
Haven't seen The Beginning yet. Watching that one tonight. Watched Dominion last night. Cgi and boy / demon effects were cringey. But I liked the Rachel character and her acting, and thought the whole arc of Fr. Merrin losing and regaining his faith to be done fairly well. Not nearly as good as the original Exorcist but not a sh*t show either.
To be precise - Germany surrendered in may 1945 and Japanese surrendered at the beginning of september 1945 - about 4 months later, its not that long :) you make it sound like Japanese keep fighting for years after war in Europe has ended:) sorry for that comment -I am a big history fan - and i like keep tight to the facts:)

That’s awesome

Capt. Howdy 616 yeah someone told me that. I must have missed it
Didnt they do that with project greenlight
I'm actually watching both these films back-to-back over the last few days.

I know someone else said this in the comments, but yeah, I guess Superman II is the only other one I can think of two versions by two directors.
Add Josstice League and Zach Snyder’s Justice League to that list.

Can you please upload the full movie of Exorcist the beginning... pleaseeeeeee
No go buy it
I loved the gore in Exorcist: The beginning. Will agree with others that the CGI was not it 😅
No one could have pulled that off any better! Well done brother!
Father Merrin traced a cross on his forehead with holy water that he found spilt on the ground when he found Father Francis dead.
Eric Orlowski I like holy sweat better
The Beginning was the better done film in my opinion. LOVE the blasphemous imagery with the upside down crucified christ in the church. definitely keeps up with the original and III.
thanks for covering this series! 🙏🏾
HOLY SWEAT 🤣🤣🤣!!!
John Moebius 💦💦💦

Beginning is a lot better than Dominion for me and quite underrated. I couldn't finish Dominion
Two versions.... I wonder if we ever will see the Snyder Cut from JL.
🤔
................... 🤔
Aaaaannnnd....now we have it! :D And it is FAR better!

Damn bro, you're ankle story tops the movie ;)

DUDE WTF ARE U TALKING ABOUT? JUST REVIEW THE MOVIE,..

I thought it was 6 months. To me that’s a long ass time once the Germans surrendered. But yeah, still. It took nukes to stop Japan 😱
Cool review
Superman II ? Well, kinda. The Dracula movie from 1931 had two versions.
Scott Dufferland yeah. The Spanish one was filmed at night. Someone should make a movie about that production
Women and Children 1st, Great VH album but I totally agree with the Bill Burr bit
U ARE 100% RIGHT THE BEGINNING A MUCH BETTER MOVIE. U CANT COMPARE TO THE ORIGINAL...THATS NOT FAIR...
Dude, go to the doctor.
Jay's ABC's Of Death ;)
Jay B Cs 😉
It's called Freewill I'm that Religious Nut (Kidding)
First af 🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔
As always ❤️❤️❤️
The story of your bleeding foot sounds way worse than a movie ever could be! And (gasp) showing all kinds of Victorian ankle too! ;)
Haha
