  • I got a few requests for more detail on how I tracked down the stars in the "Hyperspectral Mothership" video ( • Hyperspectral Mothersh... ) . So here's all the details. Warning: a bit technical.
    The version of Stellarium I used: stellarium.org/
    There's also a web version, which does the same thing, but with a different user interface. stellarium-web.org/
    Astrometery: nova.astrometry.net/

    Great work Mick! As for Mr. Frederick Portigal, his credibilty as any sort of astronomer is zero if he
    mistakes Ursa Minor for Scorpio ! The one being a dim, non-descript northern constellation, the other
    being a prominent and well known southern star pattern. Antares is a blazing red-orange star that
    all astronomy fans recognize on a summer night. Meanwhile, Frederick is claiming to be a
    "World renowned scientist" !

    Thank you for showing your working method Mick, that is very useful.
    I think the naming of stars came about after astronomers had used Roman and Greek names for planets, and characters from Shakespeare plays for many of the moons in our solar system, they started giving stars Arabic names (and names from other cultures).

    • @JackFeelsNerves
      @JackFeelsNerves 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Drabkikker The names themselves yes, of course. But I'm referring to the names which were CHOSEN to give to newly discovered objects, or those which had not already been named. The age of the names is irrelevant; some Arabic names were given to stars as an homage to those who used them to navigate over 1000 years ago, not all of them were given those names 1000 years ago.

    • @JackFeelsNerves
      @JackFeelsNerves 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Drabkikker Yes, certainly some of those names you mentioned are indeed of ancient origin, but the earliest known recording of the name Rigel, for example is in the Alfonsine tables of 1521. The star Mick was referring to was Paikauhale, which is an Hawaiian name and surely not as ancient. I was referring to similar, more recently named stars.

      Names are determined by the International Astronomical Union's system of nomenclature. Most stars also are given catalogue names like Messier objects, or NGC (New General Catalog), which is far more common as Messier was a French astronomer looking for comets, and named objects that "interfered" with his comet hunting. The IAU uses NGC strictly as it is more flexible, and forms a better catalogue.

    Mick, the saying goes if it ain't broke don't fix it. You have this down to a science my friend. You always go after low hanging fruit. I have yet to see you analyze vids that are much harder to explain. But hey, you sell books debunking easy videos/evidence that are easy. Keep up the good work😜.

      You think the tictac, gimball and gofast videos are low hanging fruit?

    • @GrimJackal
      @GrimJackal 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mick's never claimed to be able to debunk with 100% certainty every video. Quite the opposite in fact - he's careful to point out that all explanations exist on a continuum of probability, with some being more reasonable than others.
      I imagine one factor for covering these is time - he can bang out a shorter debunking like this one relatively quickly, while a longer video might take a couple of weeks. He's done both in the past and I expect he'll continue to cover both.
      Besides, even "easy targets" like this case are widely held (in the UAP community) to be definitive proof of aliens. Mick's debunking does exactly what it should - hurt the credibility of anyone claiming such. If "experts" cannot even fact check the simplest of errors why am I lending any weight to their conclusions on any video?
