I enjoy all of your videos, Trevor. I especially appreciate the ones where you go back to your roots and revisit the early days. Not because they feel sentimental, but because so many that enjoy your channel are beginners, and you've never forgotten what that is like, wondering if they can do it, too. I watch this video and realize "Hey, I can do that." And that's what I'm going to do. Thanks man!

Thank you so much, Trevor. This is actually (about to be) my exact setup. I recently bought an EOS Rebel T7 for mainly astrophotography but as I started taking normal photos too I really fell in love with it as well. Just a few hours ago I was finally able to order my long-awaited Star Adventurer 2i Pro Pack. I'm thinking of also buying a new tripod because I am using an old one and I don't really trust it. My camera came loose out of nowhere on it (yes, I caught it). I also will buy a ball head because I've seen a lot of astrophotographers and especially you recommend them. My main point of all of this is that you have inspired me to start astrophotography and have been such a huge help in getting me started. So far I am really proud of the untracked Milky Way shots that I have achieved. So much color and detail after stacking and Photoshop. I started doing calibration frames and stuff and that helped too. I've always been interested in space and photos from it, but you are one of the main people that have helped me actually make my dream of starting to do it myself come true. I really appreciate you and what you do and I hope you continue to share your astrophotography journies for as long as you can. Thank you, a lot.

Just yesterday I was outside taking pictures and thinking about the same question as I was standing there alone... you really do feel a deeper connection with everything around you. I actually began wondering if somewhere there was another creature in this fast universe looking toward us, doing what I was doing and wondering as I was wondering. I've actually given it a name, I like to imagine it will be my counterpart out there in the Universe. Might sound strange, but fills me with a feeling of connection to something bigger. :)

I really enjoyed the message at the end of this one. From Alabama, US, which seems to be notorious for being cloudy whenever anything cosmic occurs. I spent the other night complaining about the light pollution around my area, the fact my tracking mount hasn't shipped nearly 6 months later, and anything else that could come to mind. But just before the meteors started rolling in, I had an epiphany about how people in the past didn't worry about technology, they just watched the stars. I put my limited equipment away, reclined and just enjoyed the show for the first time in a long time.

Trevor, you pulled some heart strings of mine at the end of the video. Our evolutionary history as humans until the past couple hundred years has been tightly connected to the night sky. For example, nighttime events would often be planned by the cycle of the moon and we easily navigated using the night sky, and even the sun.
If you saw what the night sky looks like for me, you might cry. My wife wonders why I don't use my telescope more (she bought it for me)... well, because we live next to a mall and having parking lot lights in the back and front of our townhouse. Oh, and there are high voltage power lines that are in my only field of view. So parking lot lights and a couple dozen power lines. All I can really do is look at the moon.
At least I'm getting to learn a lot for when I put my telescope to use.

I never feel more at peace until I'm under that night sky. I am fortunate enough on a dark night to be able to see the milky way right from my backyard.
At this point I use my tamron 70 to 300 (similar to the canon lens in video)to capture most of my deep sky objects so far. Although a wide 50mm f1.8 (always stop down!!!)on a canon rebel t7i has been my choice lately capturing multiple nebulae at once. Better light better glass with the nifty fifty, But enough exposure time at 300mm @ F5.6 will get great results. Fun fact: I use the canon 70-300mm profile correction in lightroom when using the Tamron lol.
Great capture. Clear skies 📷 🌌

Only about half way through the video. But I had to stop to comment on this already. I got to the Astro backyard website from a Google suggestion. I used your link for the Star tracker and went ahead and got the carbon fiber tripod also. As soon as I saw that you are using almost the exact same gear as I am, I had to get that tracker. It hasn't shipped yet. But it will be my first! I've been trying my hand at 4 sec or less bright objects. But when I get that thing, I'll finally be able to capture much much more! Excellent video and article! I subbed immediately and can't wait to see what else you got!
And one more thing.... I've been using the T3i with the 18-55 and 70-300 kit lenses. I have been trying hard to capture the Andromeda Galaxy. If anyone has suggestions on how to get even a tiny bit to show up with out a tracker and only about 4 sec exposure time, please help!

Beautiful! You genuinely can’t beat a night under the stars. I recently went out with my star adventurer milkyway imaging, but there was a little too much cloud to get any decent images. That being said, I did enjoy the simple things and being able to just gaze into the heavens watching the odd shooting star and the milkyway fade into view between the cloud gaps, whilst becoming a victim of my own inner curiosity! The what, where, why’s taking hold. Great vid Trev 😊.

Thanks for this vid Trevor! I'm also an aussie, the Southern Hemisphere where we are in Jindabyne is so clear in winter right now you can see quite a few clusters, clouds and planets moons with the naked eye. It captured an image of Jupiter last night and managed to catch 2 of it's moons super bright as well, and then Saturn and Titan after that... with a Canon G7XMkII, they looked like stars but hey, I wanted to see if it could be done.
We all came from the stars and we shall all return to them one day. Like you, I never feel alone when I'm out in the dark. There is so much light to catch when you look up.

Excellent job Trevor. It is interesting how with a cheap lens like this Canon 70-300 we can enter in the amazing astrophotography world. I have a Sigma 70-300 DG APO lens which is very similar at the Canon and I can say it is wonderful too.

I just got a Eos 850D (Rebel T8i) for this exact purpose. I need to wait to get my Star Adventurer but having this sort of video pop up right after getting it is making me itch to get out there and shoot the night sky. I only have a 18-50 kit lens for now but I'm sure it will still give me some great shots.
