Exactly! The first touch! The control and those faint moves that only the experienced football players could recognize. Some ignorant people would say the defenders were bad and so easy for Messi to dribble past because they don't know how Messi "cheated" on moves and led things to happen.

I still remember my amazement when seeing Messi in his first season with Barca, first season he was playing regularly, 2005/06...
He was far from a complete attacker, goal and assist monster he became later on... But seeing him running at full speed with the ball staying so tight to him, glued to his feet, always able to change direction... I couldn't believe that was possible. I've never seen a player running with the ball the way he did, neither before or after that.
Forget about the old free kick master, long pass master Messi... The young Messi, with that cartoonish acceleration, ball control, balance etc was a sight to watch. Breathtaking.

Football has seen many great young players. But what we were privileged to see was the career of a star who shone bright right from the start and kept going nonstop; without getting seriously injured, wasn't overtaken by unprecedented fame, didn't lose focus and rebel. He just kept going and going and even won the Worldcup at 35.

I still remember the first time in my life I have ever seen Messi playing.
It was in a youth world cup under 19 or 20, in The Netherlands I believe Messi was 17 at the time.
I have never seen him before, I have never heard about him before.
It was a game between USA vs Argentina and Messi only started playing in the 2nd half.
Even within the first 2 minutes he already made a crazy impression to me.
And to be honest, even after all these years, I can't name any football player in the world who stunned me as much as he did.
In that match, Messi didn't score, didn't assist, didn't win, in fact he lost against the USA under 20 team, which was an absolutely nothing special team.
But mate, this guy was crazy, he just walked through a whole bunch of opponents like it was a very normal thing to do and not just once, but like every couple of minutes. There was absolutely no doubt for me that this kid, and he really looked like a shy little unsure kid at the time, was by far the best player I have ever seen.
I told my classmates about him on school, nah they said, Ronaldinho, he's the best! Have you seen Messi playing? No, but Ronaldinho is the best player in the world! Oke buddy.
That tournament Messi received a reward for beïng the best player, the top scorer, and Argentina won the tournament, he became a youth world champion, soon after he became the olympic champion as well.
I remember "Piet de Visser" telling Maradona to call Messi, which Maradona really did, and you really saw little kid Messi beïng amazed and shocked and happy at the same time. I think Messi doesn't even know that it was Piet de Visser who initiated this.
Either way, even by looking at this vid back, you see all the things all over again, the way he passed these players isn't normal, the reaction speed he got in the most crazy situations is stunning. This kid is special, he is by far the best player ever in my opinion.

its as pep once said: young messi had no reverse gear, because all he thought about was to move towards goal ( ofc the team was first, but you get what i mean). and there is that famous clip of pep in the dressing room of man city giving half time "analysis" ( well he only screams, because they got hammered by barca i think) and saying something along the lines that messi is an animal and a killer at the same time, he smells the goals.
i think he was just that good that he could add something to his footballing repertoire that very few people can our could: the asset of going for a goal. and i dont mean score a goal because we play football, but score a goal just because you can. exploring this thought further i feel that this is were greatness stems from. assets that no one else can have, because they dont have the skills.

messi #19 and #30 was a different beast, relentless, ruthless, raw, and quick...fast with his feet but quite selfish until he was too crowded to pass the ball...he developed well as he age, from winger, mid, false 9, playmaker, etc. He adapted well thanks to his coaches and managers.

    • @mtk3755
      @mtk3755 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

But he wasn't selfish, his style of play seemed selfish, it was just that he knew about his ability plus learned gradually how to read the game and use his talents to the best for the team.

Thanks to him not coaches .. and it’s called getting old.. legs gone so changed his game.. use the drop shoulder near penalty area not every inch off the pitch like he use to (relentless back then) still had to brain just knew he could goal individual goals and better then all his teammates

Ever since, I think it's been Messi, even when Ronaldo won CL back to back from 2016 - 2018, Messi was still better in those years.
