To new collectors - OOP manga does not mean its good. If your thinking about spending $800 on 12 volumes, read the manga digitally. Then put that $800 towards 70+ volumes of other manga.

After picking up so many series at retail last year... this year we are embracing library copies, buying secondhand and a right stuf haul here in there if the sale is good XD if i want this hobby in my life i will not be goin into debt over it and i refuse to pay at retail prices now lol. some people don't like getting library copies cuz they tend to be in worse shape but honestly no ones gonna see my collection but me and maybe some friends who will not care what condition my manga is in, if you like minty fresh manga thats totally valid but i have jkust stopped caring and it's definitely freed up a lot of money XD

Definitely needed this video. My wallet hurts man. I had to learn how to let go of some of my manga. Reading Pluto wasn’t my favorite by any means so I ended up selling it for what I bought it for. Don’t be afraid to let go of your manga!

This right here! No shame in letting go of a series you’re not crazy about

To new manga collectors who want to get into oop manga. My best recommendation as a person who’s collected multiple complete oop sets. Just wait. That’s it just wait I’ve seen people wait for deals and find many crazy sets from gantz to black Jack for way under retail or what they go for on eBay or mangaswap. You can also find rare oop series at random shops like goodwill or half price books. And finally read some scans for it. Decide for yourself if you think this series is worth. If your finically stable and want a crazy set just go for it if you like from what you read online. Oop doesn’t mean it’s better then in stock manga but there is a lot of oop manga gems out there to read and collect and if it’s through scans or buying irl it’s all up to you.

My advice for anyone planning to be a long term collector would be, learn more languages...I know it's hard but it opens your options a lot, series that are oop in some countries may be cheap and easy to get in others, even taking into account import prices. Obviously japanese is a good choice for manga readers but it's very hard, Spanish is another great choice since it allows you to read things from Mexican, argentinian and Spanish publishers. For example, I think I'm some countries vagabond and gantz can be pricey, in Mexico both are easy to get and cheap.

I’m glad you touched on the wait even if u can’t afford it because I’ve had moments like that and then when it came back around it was a even better deal

I feel this hard, i recently bought all 8 volumes of Rozen Maiden for $100, mainly cause volume 8 on its own usualy goes for that amount and overall it was only$20 over retail which seemed decent enough.
But normally i do try to be patient and find some good deals, and i always look up manga online to read for the 1st couple volumes before adding to my list to save up

I got paid today & most of it went to my family & most of the rest on 1 Single Volume on eBay (PromG you'll love this), SGT Frog Vol. 21 I ended up buying it for £40 even though the seller said the cheapest they've seen it is around £65 this is the first time I had ever seen it listed within the UK so I had to buy it as soon as possible still missing Vols. 18 & 20 to complete what was released in English

I live in Europe, I have to use book depository because it's the cheapest way. Shipping is free which is the main reason I use it. Cdjapan has amazing prices but shipping for only 1 book costs at least 20$ same as RightStufAnime, cheap book but shipping is 40$ for 1 volume. If I could buy manga at the real price and free shipping I would have a bigger collection but, 8€ per volume and 10-30 days of waiting is really not worth it. I only buy manga in Japanese that I've read because it's cheaper and yet it's still expensive. If only I could've buy cheap manga with free shipping but that'll never happen 😕

Honestly, I don’t do an amazing job at balancing. The main thing I do is just cycle out stuff in my collection to buy new stuff

Instead of selling manga that you no longer want, it’s better to only buy the manga that you absolutely love after reading digitally.
That way, you skip the hassle of selling, making space in your bookshelves and buying in the first place.

I feel like you're just intentionally rubbing it in at this point with that Emma Vol. 4 in the background and then you have to keep bringing it up also just to pour salt in the wound.
