Hey! Do you like manga? You sort of want to start collecting it but don’t really know where to start? Feeling overwhelmed? Well, I gotchu. I’ve got some tips for ya. So why don’t you stick around and let me guide you through your long journey to the perfect manga collection!

On the keeping a log, I have a spreadsheet of my video game collection that is extremely helpful when I look for new titles. I can sort it by name, console, series, etc. And I keep it on a google drive so I can check whenever I'm out at the retro game store. Excellent tool for collecting.

Yeah I think I’d like to add a bit of depth to it because I think it could be a little more efficient, but for now it’s still so useful.

I really liked this, lots of really great tips and tricks! I'm feeling that tip about space... 😅 My shelves are getting FULL and Ikea is having issues stocking billy bookcases and shelves. 😔 Also, I just recently bought the box set of A Silent Voice at what I thought was a good price and found it $40 cheaper a week later. I agree with you, Worst. Feeling. Ever. Lol

And yeah I really don’t know what I’m going to do! I maybe have room for one more small book shelf but after that I think I’m going to have to start getting creative… but! I do like box sets because I can put them on the top and that way they don’t actually take book space!
Oh man sorry to Hear! That sucks. When the whole world was after the Demon Slayer Boxset I almost got it for an absurd price and I’m so glad I didn’t. Bought them one at a time but that’s ok. Rather than obnoxious prices! Haha

Thank you for all these tips! ✨ I got my first manga when I was 13, but was a lot more into anime as a teenager so I stopped buying them at about 15. Now I'm 25 and started getting really interested in manga again. I have to be careful not to get too exited about growing my new collection sometimes 😅 so it's really helpful listening to collectors share their experiences with budgeting and having patience.

Great tips! I use Libib to keep track of mine with a wishlist collection category, ordered, and the actual collection. Works with my regular books, video games, movies/tv shows, and music too and I can just scan the isbn/upc. It's so nice 😊

Great video, i have been collecting just a month now and spent way too much so far, and am getting a Kindle Scribe to make things cheaper and not take up any more space, my physical collection includes all those Deluxe Editions of Berserk, 18 books of Junji Ito, all 12 of the Gantz omnibuses, Blood on the Tracks (ongoing), PTSD Radio, Goodnight Punpun and Monster. It'll be awhile till i get more physical manga, which will probably be Vagabond and 20th Century Boys. Looking forward to exploring more of your manga content, to become more wise in the manga world.
Ooooooh yeah getting hard into a collecting hobby can be dangerous! But I’m glad you know what you want and found alternative ways to read manga while waiting for what you really want to add to your shelves!
Vagabond is something I should be able to get myself soon hopefully!

I’ve been collecting sense 2019, when I was new to this my collection grew rapidly to about 350 or so during 2020-early 2022. In late 2022 I started working on budgeting and not buying every new series I was remotely interested in. Now I’m nearing 700 volumes and still need to unhaul some series I’m not interested in. I’m working on bringing down my monthly buy rate from 20 volumes a month to 4 a month… hopefully I’ll get there Eventually.

Yeah budgeting is really tough, and FOMO is very real!
My monthly carts used to be around 20 and now I’m trying to stick to 12-13, and while it’s difficult, I think it’s for the best.
It’s also challenging to keep up with all that reading!
It took a while but I’m now satisfied with focusing more on the GREATS than on numbers.

Damn, I wish I had this video earlier in my life .
I send this to my friend, who got me into anime and manga and her only response was: "Hahaha! You, budgeting?!" ouch... but true😅
When it comes to my hobbies, I never managed to stick to my budget. It's more like "oh, just 6 Euros more. How bad can that be? Just this one time"... but it never keeps with 'just this one time". In fact, I had months in which I rather cut my meals than tighten my purse on my hobbies. Which led to a very awkward talk with my parents as they visited me the first time after lookdown and instantly noticed that I had lost some weight 😅 needless to say, they didn't let my arguements of "I am happy! More than I feel hungry" and "no time to eat, gotta read" count.
I actually started collecting mangas this year. I always loved books and comics but manga never got into my shelfs. My best friend on the other hands loves anime and manga for more than half of her life and has a nice collection of manga, pins and soooo many nendoroids. She dragged me down this rabbit hole.
I am very obsessed with Sherlock Holmes and dedicate my life to check out EVERYTHING that is related to Sherlock Holmes. The original books, audiobooks, movies, comics, musicals, etc...
Well, my best friends knows about this obsession and recommended to me "Moriarty the Partriot". First I was sceptic but one time as I stood at her place over night, I grabbed it from her shelf. She is an night owl and I am absolute earlie bird, so I had plenty of time, read the first issue... and I loved it!!
That was short before christmas and on christmas she gifted to me Issue nr. 10 (!!!) with a wink and said: "looks like you have to get the other ones too, if you wanna read this one" ... mean...and smart! And I did as I was told, only to sneak up to her, after I finished them, to ask: "anything else you recommend?" and my journey began.
That was at the beginning of this year. Now we are in september and I already own more than 115 manga and had read 92 of them, accompanied her to a couple conventions and went for some anime-nights at the cinema. I love it! ... If only money and bills wouldn't stand behind my back. And who would have thought that this collection piles up so fast? Not me! Well, I didn't think at all, I guess...😅
My ex was really surprised as he found out about my now obsession and was also a little pissed. Back then in our relationship, he had also tried to get me into anime and manga but failed. The thing is: he showed me stuff he liked, while my best friend showed me stuff she knew I(!) would like.

Yeah the budget thing is absolutely crucial. I had to cut back a few months ago and it was difficult, continues to be! But I’d important. Can’t be reading manga if you’re too famished to even hold the book!

@@Manganalysis thank you! Looks like the english lessons I take after works are really helping 🌟 Next time when our teacher starts the lesson with "how is it going?" I will tell him: "I got told my english is excellent!" 😁 ... okay, yea, writing is working better for me in general, talking is the bigger issue...
I got myself a notebook to use it as a log for all my expenses now. Writing it down with a pen on paper is better sticking to my mind than typing.
And about the "famished"-part... you sound like my friends 🤣

I definitely have a mixed collection of manga which costed me a lot of money but I have pretty much all the series I want and now I just collect the next volumes in the series which saves me so much money. Also, I read the series online to decide if I want to actually buy it. And also there is no shame in buying second hand manga. It saves money.

I’m always looking at the used manga section In my local bookstores. Sometimes you can find some real treasures!
I have well over a thousand volumes probably closer to 1500. I also collect anime more now than manga video games/consoles. Not as big of a collection as anime or manga but still collect. And figures but I don’t buy many figures and the most I’ve spent on a figure is $50, so I don’t buy too many but do buy some. The biggest 2 tips I would say are wait for sales wait wait wait. If you’re spending $10 a volume not on sale it starts to add up. $10 is not much money but when you spend $10 hundreds of times your talking in the thousands now. Wait for sales. 2nd tip which is honestly more important than the first one is collect what you will actually read and enjoy. Don’t just buy something bc you saw some one else’s collection. Make sure you can see yourself reading the series at least a 2nd time in the future. I’ll give an example. Mech series are not my thing no problem if you enjoy them but personally they are not for me. Have no interest in reading or watching them. But with that being said I bought mobile suit gundam the origin hardcover. Luckily I only bought 1 volume of it but I will never read it have 0 interest in it. Bought it only bc I saw a collection video. And I’ve bought stuff that I will never read bc I enjoy the anime more but still bought the entire series just about. Point is buy what you truly will like

@@Manganalysis cheers, if you can afford it and don’t need to wait for sales by all means go for it. But if you have a budget or your income isn’t very high I would say wait for sales but to each their own

Oh thanks! Appreciate that! The only problem with filmed is it doesn’t really give tons of wiggle room for a script, and I feel really self conscious without one. But I liked how it turned out so I might do this more often!

I think using your face is helpful because it's going to help people identify you and recognize your videos instantly. I remember mixing up your channel with some others who also do voice-overs only.
Was thinking about buying some Japanese manga at some point but not sure which one I want to get yet. Do you have a series that you felt was a easier read or you got into it so much you couldn't put it down?

All pretty different with different lengths too.

@@Nighteye88 awesome! Yeah I honestly would recommend Death Note as the manga. It’s better in my opinion! Not vastly different but there are some subtle changes in the anime that drag it down a few notches for me.
Kaiju n.8 is phenomenal man so I’m pretty confidant you’ll enjoy it!
