Hard to see all the palms go for the winter. More sad to see all your flowers gone. They were still looking so amazing. It’s really hard to pull things out when they are still looking so good.
I dont know how you do this every year?. It would crush me to rip every thing out like you do. I had to have a lay down when you clipped the Pharaohs Masks off. Very full video Jeff. Stay warm this winter.
Thank you! I used to hate cutting everything out but I think it's just become second nature after all of these years. The Pharaoh's mask actually have all seemed to overwinter much better with heavy cut back, but the first year I tried it I also felt icky about cutting them.
Hi Jeff! It was sad seeing the annuals go, then the palms, but loved seeing the trunks on the palms. I'm like you, it would be hard to cover them every year, but those pots are always so pretty. Hopefully you can find some shorter annuals next Spring that will work for you for the colors you like. I do like the arbs in the pots along with the cabbage and creeping jenny. I'm glad you decided to pot them up. I kinda figured that you would. ;-) It was so good to see Pumpkin and Charlie, too, along with Turbo, of course. How is Cosmo doing, and Diego? I miss seeing Toby. He's not in a lot of videos any more. Bless his heart. I hope he's doing ok. Thank you so much for sharing!
Hey Sandy! Yeah it's always sad to see the annuals go, but was nice being able to get a better look at those palms. They were looking great under those impatiens! All of the animals are doing well, Toby is living his old man life and spends a lot of time hanging inside and taking naps these days.
You are soooo right! The pool palms look so much better without them being underplanted.. I think Creeping Jenny or Lemon Coral Sedum would be sufficient as underplants next year - the palms should be the only stars in those pots!
It's a decision I struggle with every spring. Since that's the only spot that gets full sun I always to fill those planters with sun loving annuals, but those sun impatiens really blocked the view of those trunks. I wish they'd make a mini version of those things.
@@TropicalPlantParty I think most of mine were too wet when I buried and suffered root rot. Alot of the plants normally in my bog didn't recover. I usually pull them out of the water a week or so before burying them to let them dry, but last years cold came so suddenly.
Hi Jeff, you should consider moving to a warmer climate rather sooner than later. Much less work each fall since most plants could stay outside. I brought most of my plants in except for six Alocasias and our basement is loaded with house plants. Can't wait to move some of them to Florida next year. My Christmas palm, that I grew from seed in 2017 is almost 5 feet tall and my first pineapple top that I planted a year ago now has 4 feet long leaves. The taller they get, the harder it will be to transport them in a crossover SUV. Condolences on the Cardinals. As a fellow St. Louisian I feel your pain.
It's so great getting watch our plants grow over the years. They'll be really happy down in Florida! That was the best season of baseball memories ever. Seemed like every game I went to I was witnessing something historical. Going to be weird watching cards play next year without yadi, he's played since I was a kid, I don't even know stl baseball with that guy.
Oh they'll be ok. The spring grove arbs are good to -25F and it rarely drops below 0F here. I also have them both moved to more sheltered spots and probably will wrap some lights around them for extra protection.
@@TropicalPlantParty Oh good! I'm in southern Ontario, Canada, Zone 6b, it goes below 0F enough or colder, so your Zone 6 is probably different than ours!
Hey there. Yard looks great. I noticed you said people were coming to pick them up. What’s the name of the company and where do you live? I live in New York. Cold weather is coming. Can’t find anyone in Long Island to store my palms with. Where are you storing them?such a torture finding somewhere to store them. Please let me know.
Question?..... the palms tree pots, that you cut petunias and sweet potatoes, ect. off of......are there sweet potatoes in the dirt that formed? What happens there? Just wondered? Thanks for the video...always love your videos.
Hey lorell! Yes! The ipomeas all form a sweet potato tuber, but these kind aren't meant for eating, just for nice foliage and growth. You can store the tubers and start them again just like any other potato as well. 😊
@@TropicalPlantParty I see now your palm was in it's own pot so the sweet potatoes probably just grew in the dirt between the palm pot and outside ceramic pot....I was thinking if a tuber was in palm dirt it might rot there....during storage....nevermind....you do things right.....hugs....feels fallish but still warm sunny days here. Unusually dry hasn't rained here on the Oregon coast for months. Lots of watering .
I, Like you...gotta get my greenhouse up and ready because it's Lookin like winter is coming early this year. Even though my forcast says I'm gonna drop to the mid forties for lows I just can't trust the weather...for some of my tropicals the mid to upper 40s can be quite fatal. My rare potted flowering tropical trees are as giant as your plants and are a b***h to move and bein caught off guard just isn't an option...i might even have to buy another greenhouse...i hate winter 😠 lol
Can never trust the forecast these days! That's partially why I just started moving stuff in (a month early) bc the worst part is being caught off guard and having to rush to get things moved.
@@TropicalPlantParty thanks! So will you be cutting yours down today or is that already done just not posted? I'm in mid-mo so I better get to it. Oh it hurts to cut them down! I feel the pain of yesterday's video coming.
Always sad to see your palms go into storage. Here in Pensacola we are getting an unusual cold snap here next week with lows in low 40s and highs only in 60s and windy these are temps 15 degrees below seasonal average
You used the word “practical” when talking about your newly planted winter pots! In all the years I have watched your videos, that word never came to mind as far as describing anything in your garden! Nice try though. 😂
🤣😆 fair! I just meant since I "needed" the arbs anyway I was able to justify the planters. Hopefully next year I'll be able to think of a couple more evergreens I "need" so i can do it again 😆

It is a relief getting the plants under cover.
Yes it is! Only a few left to go in and it's back to indoor gardening.
Que belleza tu perro muy lindo tus plantaz sienmpre agradecida pr mostrarla

Painful process but it's part of it. Can't wait to see how they look when they come back next year. 😊
Thanks Jeff.🍁🍂🍁💚🙃

You could wrap the Arbs in classic mini Christmas lights for the winter it would look so cozy!
Definitely going to be doing that!
Those cut heliconias and pink caladium leaves would have been nice in a vase for inside! 🌱😊
Be safe, stay healthy, have a great weekend, bye until next week. 🍁🍂🍁💚🙃
Thank you Judy! Hope you're doing well and enjoying your weekend!
Watching you clip the pharoah's mask stung more the second time I watched this video, since mine are very much 'fingers crossed' for the winter.
I've got about a foot of mulch on the ones in the ground. Fingers crossed 🤞

Hi Jeff 👋 OUCH!! 🥺 That was soo painful for me...
All part of the 4 season process, sad to see them go but what a beautiful year it was having them around. 😊
The Evergreens look nice in those blue pots! I'm just concerned that the roots will freeze in the winter!🌲🌲

Now I MUST see that shirt ;)
Hey Jeff, LOVE you're yard and videos. I was wondering would it be an extremely bad idea to separate Christmas Palms that size? Thanks
You need some solar christmas lights wrapped around those evergreens so they will look nice at night.
when they get moved I'll be putting string lights all over them. Maybe some ornaments during the holidays too!
I wish I lived in a cold state. Hawaii is too consistent
As much as I love my tropical plants, I also do enjoy the change in seasons. ... sometimes

I don't worry about mine until there's going to be a hard freeze, which is generally 30F or colder.

What will you do with you butiagrus and bismarckia?
They'll come into the growspace when the temps start to dip into the teens. Those can take a good amount of cold before I have to worry about them.

It's a strong cold front! Supposed to be 24F here in a couple of days. Wtf! In October!
@@TropicalPlantParty yes I agree I hate to see cold weather come. It’s actually more work to keep plants up in off season than in spring & summer
