Hi Jeff! It was nice of you to do a special video just on these pool planters for everyone with questions about them. They are beautiful! It was good that you explained what you would do different, and why. I'm anxious to see them when the Heliconia hirsuta costa flores are flowering above the elephant ears. That will be pretty dramatic. It will be fun seeing if you're able to get the plants, excluding the supertunias, out without disturbing the elephant ears. LOL! You gave yourself a challenge for Fall. I mentioned on your last video that my favorite pots are the ones with 1 purple fountain grass, 1 dark leaf sweet potato vine, 1 lemon coral sedum and 4 small campanula. Hi Toby and Turbo! Thank you so much for sharing!
It will be interesting! Luckily heliconias have shallow rhizomes, so they shouldn't be too hard to get out. Worse case scenario, I leave the elephant ears in with the bananas, wrap a heat cable around the pots and cover them with cloth or tarps. ... I'd rather not have to do that though. 😂😅
Thank you! Yeah, to be honest, I bet they'd look even better if I had planted them a little lighter, just because they'd have more room to spread those roots. So far so good, we'll see what they look like in September though.
No problem! I was happy to do it. I wanted to go over a lot of that in the garden tour, but it would have made that video too long. Was good to separate the topics out. 😊
Love elephant ears, but I don’t have the space so I settle for buying the edible tubers (Arvi) at the Indian or Asian market for dirt cheap. Three in a 12” pot look great ! They’re also easy to tuck in the ground with other plants. Oh another interesting thing in those same markets -they sometimes get the Amorphophallus ‘Konjac’ bulbs which can get huge. Talk about a fun plant! I bring the pot in for the winter and the bulbs just keep getting bigger. Ethnic markets are great places to find things to plant for very cheap! 🌱🌿
Yes they are! I got my konjac from a similar market, and that's where I usually get different types of gingers. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for the Arvi, they sound neat!
Love them!!! I also did Calocasia gigantica in my big pots. Surrounded by Supertunia vista fuchsia and supertunia bubblegum. They are as beautiful as yours!!
You stuffed so many big things in such a small place (that's what she said). The planters look awesome! I kinda want to try something similar, but throw in a canna Tropicana instead of the banana, since I only have a balcony to grow it in.
😂😆😅 twss! Ha! That will look awesome! I thought about doing cannas in the center for these, but I was worried about the wind. I only had banana canna rhizomes and those get huge! Worried the storms would just blow them to bits.
Love those pool planters! My favorite planter of mine this year is the malayan gold coconut, red shade patients, guzmania conifera, and a purple spotted phalaenopsis tucked front and center!
Yeah, those have gotten a little full haven't they? Have fun getting that all out in the fall. 😉 Oh, also, I guess mealybugs really like cajun hibiscus. I didn't notice them and then there were a lot of yellowing leaves and, ugh, giant globs of mealybugs everywhere. I'm still trying to get rid of them two weeks later.
Oooooh!! WOW! Clip Clip the elephant ears & they make a dramatic change! I know you know what you are doing! (Psst..I bet it smelled good!! Anytime Cicadas are around a different tinge to my smeller.....I dunno cause I am NOT prophetic but it was a good smell & that helped out my days!) Have a great one!
If you haven't already can you do a video specifically on Elephant ears? How to make them look as amazing as yours? I planted them for the first time this year, 3 bulbs and so far all year they only have a few sparse leaves . I would love if mine looked like yours.
Hi Jeff, I'm focused on the dogs this video...what's cuter than a puppy and how sweet that Toby is so accepting. NOW, please send us a video of TURBO swimming in that pool...haha, what fun! We never see Colby anymore, where is she? How is the reptile doing?
The animals are always the stars 😊 I've been slowly getting some good puppy swimming video to put together. Colby is still around, but I let the puppy and tortoise outside in shifts. I worry that the puppy will chew on the tortoises shell if give them too much free time together. Probably being overly paranoid with that, but until I know that he has no interest in the tortoise I'm keeping them separate unless under heavy supervision. Iguana is good, enjoying summer and slowly warming up to people.
The Supertunia Picasso's would have looked nice in that planter with the Colocasia. The Supertunia Bubblegum seem to be the most hardy of them all, although all the Supertunia's are winners. Once they start cascading I cut them all back quite a bit to encourage more blooms otherwise they get a little leggy and bald in the middle. There are so many colors in Supertunia's , any mix looks good. Your planters are beautiful, just the way they are.
Thank you! I love the Picassos! Haven't seem them for sale locally in a couple of years, they just sell out quickly. I used to have a dog that would rub on those pots and do the mid summer petunia prune for me! 😆 I need to remember that I need to do it myself since he isn't around anymore to prune my petunias for me.
I love to watch you pot BECAUSE I under pot and it doesn’t look as good as yours so I’ve learned to “add more” cause I’ve always been “skert” to over pot. 😂👍
Jeff or should I say Laura LOL. She always over plants her pots. Hers always look great right from the get go as the season progresses they morph into something else. With their haircut yours look really pretty. Nice job Jeff. Have a great day.
beautiful planter..I plan to do the same, which compost have you been using. I cannot find any in my local home depot. Also can you tell me the fertilizer that you feed every week?
Hello! I use a few different types. The espoma land and sea, but I use that sparingly bc it is expensive. I get mushroom compost from Lowes and the Garden Naturals garden soil from lowes has a nice blend of compost in it that I like as well.
What kind of elephant ears do you have in them? And did you plant any of them in their containers? And thank you yet again, I've already purchaed everything else except the petunias to put together for next year and I'm so excited
Those planters are perfect!! In scale and content for pool side!! I would not change a thing!! Well Done!!
Thank you so much!

Love the pool & those pots look so beautiful. Just gorgeous.
Thank you!
Hi Jeff🙋♀️Just wanted to say thank you for letting me live vicariously thru u and ur garden tours the last couple years! #GOALS🔥
Haha! Well thank you! I hope you're doing well 😊
I watched the vlog when you planted those planters and holy cow they turned out beautiful.
They've been growing like crazy! Thank you!
You are a magician at stuffing so much into so little an area. How everything turns out looking so great is beyond me.
Thank you! Yeah, to be honest, I bet they'd look even better if I had planted them a little lighter, just because they'd have more room to spread those roots. So far so good, we'll see what they look like in September though.
Turbo is growing so quickly! Love those Elephant Ears! Everything looks so lovely!
Growing like a weed! Lol! Thank you!
“got bananas growing out of my drainage ditch”. life goals 🍌
😅😂😆 champagne problems 😆😂 ... there's never a shortage of bananas around here!
Beautiful planters! I planted some Maui Gold for the first time this year and they grow so fast. I love them! 💚
They are awesome! I love the color, the vigor and the shiny leaves! Beautiful plants!
Thank you so much for all of the detailed descriptions, that was so helpful! You are very generous
No problem! I was happy to do it. I wanted to go over a lot of that in the garden tour, but it would have made that video too long. Was good to separate the topics out. 😊
What a beautiful pool area. Beautiful pot of elephant ears and flowers
Thank you!

I garden in zone 9b and your yard is far more tropical than mine. Absolutely gorgeous!!
Haha! Well thank you, Beverly!

Love seeing the chubby nape of Turbo.
Lol! Me too!
💚 love that design. Those giant elephant ears really give a jungle effect!
Love those pool planters!
My favorite planter of mine this year is the malayan gold coconut, red shade patients, guzmania conifera, and a purple spotted phalaenopsis tucked front and center!
That is a beautiful planter!
Those pots look stunning! 😍
Thank you!
Jeff, Your containers are beautiful!!!💯🔥🥰🌱
Thank you!
I should have such a problem! Planters are beautiful Jeff!💚🙃
Thank you, judy!

I’m going to be doing some house plant repotting today. Maybe I’ll get a little growth on them before they have to come in for the winter💚🙃
Smart! Still time to repot the houseplants. I have several still on my list that I need to get done this week or next.
I think crotons with helliconias would look great in your pool pots for next year :)
I second this lol!
Yes! Absolutely!

A good prune always make them look better!

@@TropicalPlantParty Thank you
Thank you. This is exactly what I was after 🙏☺️

Thank you Patricia!
All of your plants are looking stunning around the pool!🤩 Sending puppy hugs to Toby...💕 (Is it "Toby" or Tobi")?
Thank you!

Jeff, do you think I can get away with having the Maui golden in full sun in Florida?
What kind of elephant ears do you have in them? And did you plant any of them in their containers? And thank you yet again, I've already purchaed everything else except the petunias to put together for next year and I'm so excited
I may be crazy 😜 but it looks like Turbo has grown quite a bit since the last video?💚🙃
He’s gotten so big!
He's growing fast!
