i'm the senior alto sax/mellophone section leader in my marching band, and so much of this video feels so true... the busses not having wifi... the absolute flexing at comps...the long ass bus trips... every other year my band goes down to florida to march at magic kingdom which is a fun spring break! except the bus ride is a full twenty four hours. im talking we left universal at 5 pm and arrived back at the school at 5 pm. it was so bad

I am an Orchestra student, conductor, and composer but I don't know why but yall in marching band need more. Yall are amazing. Support from an orchestra!
I was a double bassist in all the bands and orchestras in the school. I refused to join band my freshman/sophomore year, but so glad I eventually did. I learned SO SO much that most string players know nothing about when it comes to woodwinds and brass.
I was cellist in my old school but had to move schools and it only had a band which made me have to switch to double bass. I was not into it at first but it eventually grew on me and now I play both
On my band trip to Florida our bus driver took a massive shit on our bus in the first hour so we had to smell that shit for the 12 hour trip there and back and every time we took a turn it was like that dookie rolled around and it would smell absolutely unbearable. Almost ruined the trip for me.

I’m a trumpet player and my school will be marching in the Maceys day parade this fall. Can easily say that joining marching band was the best decision I ever made.
I play tenor sax in my schools concert band and jazz band and it’s a lot of fun! Highly recommend the instrument unless your a loud person because the tenor is very loud in the beginning so it’s takes a lot of control to not blow up peoples earlobes. Apart from that band is pretty fun! 😃
I agree, but only when it’s played well. It’s badass if it is. On the other hand, the trombones in my band suck ass! They don’t use enough air, they mess up positions, and sometimes during performances they put the slide so far out that it falls off 😭
I was in marching band for the first time last summer. We never went out of state for anything or never stayed in hotels bcs the band doesn't have much money/funding for that shit. But nonetheless it was overall a great experience for me, met some cool people, really enjoyed performing and feeling like I'm a part of something. I'm looking forward to doing it again this next summer. My favorite part of performaning is when I hit myself with my flag. I'm in guard btw :)
I’m originally from Chicago and the worst thing I’ve seen was a mom in a bathroom in a Nike store shoving 3 pair of shoes in her sons backpack leaving the boxes inside the stall😂
As a Baritone Section Leader in a large band, I can relate to these experiences. My favorite had to be almost getting thrown out of Disney world on a band trip.
I'm in choir and we & the band kids are going on tour in a few months! I'm super excited cause I hear all these crazy stories, and yours sounds hilarious!
If I had gone to normal school, I would've loved to be a part of a marching band. I was homeschooled. So, I was only a part of a jazz band and concert bands. I got to do orchestra in college. As soon as covid hit, all of the concerts got cancelled. My community band thankfully opened back up for rehearsals this past March, and we have a concert next month. So, I'm super excited.
In my opinion, trumpets are overrated and aren’t really essential for a band. I haven’t met a trumpet player who wasn’t a douchebag or a jock. Trumpet players get all of the attention in the band when it should be shared between every member of the band.
@@eliascorson6547 I do get where you’re coming from, but that isn’t true for every band. There are some douchebag trumpet players out there I agree, but that can go for any instrument. Still, I agree that you should always let your instrument speak for itself, and if you work hard you don’t need to brag.

i'm the senior alto sax/mellophone section leader in my marching band, and so much of this video feels so true... the busses not having wifi... the absolute flexing at comps...the long ass bus trips... every other year my band goes down to florida to march at magic kingdom which is a fun spring break! except the bus ride is a full twenty four hours. im talking we left universal at 5 pm and arrived back at the school at 5 pm. it was so bad
Bro how are alto and melli in the same section
@@Aidan-hl4wc not enough altos for one section, not enough mellos for one section, and we tend to have pretty similar parts + are both middle voices. so alto / mello section :)
@@radioforums. weird, in our marching band altos don’t have their own section its more just “the saxophones” + base clarinets. We only have like 8 mellos but they’re the smallest section.
@@Aidan-hl4wc ah, neat! tenor + bari are grouped with bass clarinets in low winds, which tends to be absorbed by low brass! it's neat how bands can differ
AHHH IM A MELLO/FRENCH HORNIST band is amazing and one of the best decisions ive made so far. I started out on french horn but all my other section mates started on trumpet and literally we have no section leader rn and i wanna addition 4 it but ik the seniors wont respect me even though i am 1st chair. (Im a soph.) We r taking our first trip since after covid soon and i am so ready ive never been on one so kinda nervous.

As a former band kid who played the heaviest wind instrument (the tuba/sousaphone) and somehow managed to survive half of middle school and all of high school band, I can seriously relate to this video lol, honestly for me personally, I don't come across many yt commentators & animators who were in band make vids and talk about their experiences within the fine art, so watching this honestly made me happy : )
as a beginning band kid, i feel like i’ve made the right decision. honestly i’m so excited to actually start doing band. i’m doing marching band next year and i’m super excited. i play saxophone and i feel like my instrument is my baby😭🫶🏼
edit: ok so i made this comment like a month ago but i js wanted to say that then we had only had our instruments for a bit we’ve had them for a couple months at this point and it’s so much fun to experience being apart of it and i had my first concert in December and it really was an experience. it’s such an amazing thing to be apart of i’d say. my next concert is in may and i start marching band practice in July i might come back idk though, love y’all 🫶🏼
second edit: it’s currently august 13th 1:51 am i starts school tmr🥶 i’ve done band camp, had two concerts, my first band rehearsal of the school year is this tuesday and i have DEFINITELY improved since i made this comment. like by a lot. not just in band, in general. i might come back but i wrote this as a beginning band student in the beginning of 6th grade and it’s hard to believe i’m starting 7th grade and in the marching band

I play tenor sax in my schools concert band and jazz band and it’s a lot of fun! Highly recommend the instrument unless your a loud person because the tenor is very loud in the beginning so it’s takes a lot of control to not blow up peoples earlobes. Apart from that band is pretty fun! 😃

Trumpet is the best and I love it. That’s the only reason I overcame my depression

“Make sure when you sign up you choose trumpet, because that’s the best instrument.”
Correct, respect earned.
Nah, baritones and trombones are the best in my opinion
