Number 1 on the Mainstream Rock Billboard, Number 1 on the Alternative Airplay Billboard, Number 1 on the UK Rock and Metal OCC, Number 4 on the US Mainstream Top 40 1999-2000. It's just an all around great song.
On the Billboard Hot 100, "Higher" peaked at #7, but stayed on the chart for 57 weeks. It's a classic example of a "slow boil" on the Hot 100, when a song slowly increases and decreases in popularity as it crosses over to radio stations of different formats at different times. In the case of "Higher," it first impacted on Active Rock and Alternative stations at the end of the summer of 1999, and airplay was strong enough on both that the song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100, Mainstream Rock and Alternative charts all at the same time on September 11, 1999. From there, the song exploded up both Mainstream Rock and Alternative to #1 in a very short time. It needed only six weeks to reach #1 on Alternative, doing so on October 16, 1999; and spending three weeks at the top. Even more impressive, it needed only three weeks to reach #1 on Mainstream Rock, doing so on September 25, 1999; and spending a whopping 17 weeks at the top. In spite of the strong airplay on Active Rock and Alternative stations, "Higher" hadn't yet begun to cross over to CHR (Top 40) stations, so it initially peaked at only #52 on the Hot 100 on October 30, 1999; and dropped off the Hot 100 on January 29, 2000; due to Billboard's policy of removing songs that have been on the chart for more than 20 weeks and are below #50. However, airplay remained strong on Mainstream Rock, and didn't begin to peter out on Alternative until the song began to impact on CHR (Top 40) radio stations in the spring of 2000. After eight weeks off the Hot 100, "Higher" reappeared at #43 on March 25, 2000; and finally entered the Top 40 two weeks later on April 8, 2000. For the next 13 weeks, CHR airplay continued to build, and Active Rock airplay remained solid, with the song taking its time moving down Mainstream Rock. In addition, the song began to impact on Hot AC ("Hot" Adult Contemporary; basically CHR minus rap) stations, giving it the boost it needed to enter the Top 10 of the Hot 100 on July 8, 2000. "Higher" peaked at #7 on the Hot 100 on July 22, 2000; and spent six weeks in the Top 10, not falling out until August 19, 2000. As CHR and Mainstream Rock airplay began to wane, steady Hot AC airplay in the late summer and fall of 2000 kept the song from plummeting down the Hot 100, giving it a slow descent instead. It didn't fall out of the Top 40 until November 4, 2000. Finally, after 57 non-consecutive weeks on the Hot 100, and 65 weeks of steady radio airplay on at least one format, it dropped off the Hot 100 for good on December 9, 2000.
Now you need to listen to "Faceless Man." Man, to be honest, every song on their initial three albums are excellent. Not a bad song in "sight." Their fourth one was good, as well. All four were great, but those first three.... man, they were good. And in my definition, "overplayed" is NOT the same as a "bad song." Because the first time I heard that eventual over-played song, I felt the same.
Faceless Man is one of my favorites. It's a wonder why the industry promoted them in a way that laid them open for ridicule; scapegoats really. Together they brought serious talent and creativity. Definitely a "Shooting Star" event, per Bad Company. ✨❤️🔥💫
Creed always got a lot of flack but they were crazy big in the late 90s-early 00s. Lead singer Scott Stapp was a bit of a mush mouth when it came to enunciating while singing, which lead to me hearing a girl on the a local radio station asking the DJ to play "My Sack of Ice", which the DJ quickly corrected.
Excellent question, of course...and the answer is "Yes, of course I can!" lol - Peace & Love from Augusta, GA area... 😎✌❤
Maark Tremonti is one Awesome guitarist!!! The man is Legend!! I Love Mark Tremonti and Myles Kennedy together as well (Alter Bridge).
Creed, “One”
one of my fav bands
The rare smile on brads face after and during a song lol.
If you want another excellent Creed song with deep meaningful lyrics you have got to do the song One next.
Creed "Illusion". One of my faves of theirs.
Faceless Man might be their best song.
@@timlawrence2759 I agree! They need to listen to Faceless Man.
@@timlawrence2759 Yep. Is why I mentioned it. We're on the same wavelength.
Faceless man is absolutely one of their best!!
Now whenever I hear Creed's "My Sacrifice", I will always hear "my sack of ice".
Scott Stapp has some good,post-Creed,solo material too.A few songs that come to mind:The Great Divide,Surround Me,Sublime.
The song that got me into Creed was With Arms Wide Open, I then bought this album also featuring Higher.
I will forever love and rock out to Creed! I saw a video of Scott Stapp singing this in a church backed by an acoustic guitar. Dreaming of Heaven indeed! CREED FOREVER!! 💜💜💜💜
I still rock the Creed especially when riding. Whos got your back now.
Love this! And the vocals ❤
Creed incredibol sound, super vocalist Scott stapp, best band history rock
Scott Stapp definitely has a unique voice. When I try to mimic it it feels like I need to sing from the roof of my mouth and back of the throat.
..."yarling"...
'One last breath' by them is my favorite one.
Higher was so popular when it now came out and there message is so positive. They even did a soundtrack for the Horror Thriller Scream and they totally owned it. Creed has so many hits but I think you should do What If next. Also don't stop on the Alter Bridge train they have the best back to back albums ever. You should binge review one every week. You wouldn't be disappointed. Great review 👏👏👏👏
This is definitely one of the best songs of the late '90s the reason for the Eddie Vedder comparisons is because this is Post-Grunge.
The reason for the Eddie Vedder comparisons is because Creed is a Pearl Jam ripoff
@@danielmaher7108 Exactly lol. Half of the things Scott Stapp said in the songs were hypocritical lol.
He's a son of a preacher man. It's about his dream about going to Heaven. They're a Christian Rock group
Love the reactions guys y'all just got a new subscriber
“One Last Breath” is their best one! You’ll love it!
Love me some Creed.
One of my favorite bands..Faceless Man is another great song off of this epic album
Another great one by them is "Weathered" as well as the great cover they did of the Doors "Riders on the storm"
I've always liked their music even back in the day, from what I can remember they inspired a lot of people and gave them hope when they were down and had none. Nothing wrong with that everyone could use some especially now days with what people are going through or will be.
A side-trip rabbit hole related to Creed might be reacting to Scott Stapp and others singing with the Doors. The remaining Doors had a variety of vocalists sing different songs with them, and the results were surprisingly cool.
I dream all the time and it is so real then I wake up and go! Damn
Yaaaay got some creed reactions 🔥
