    I suffered with DP for a good 4 and half months. I had a really bad weed experience and in those 4 months i was living in complete HELL. I literally thought i had damaged my brain. That was probably the worst thought that came to mind. That i had damaged it and there was no way out. I lost count of how much i cried during my DP. I started going on youtube to look for more answered about DP/DR. That’s when i found The DP manual and thankfully after 4 months of putting in all the work, i thankfully recovered. It wasn’t easy. It took a lot of discipline. You just slowly start coming out of dp/dr without even realizing it. Like Mr. O’connor says in his manual. “ You kinda take it for granted” and it is SO SO true. When you start recovering, you slowly start doing the things you love again. You can watch tv without panicking or thinking about DP/DR. You can actually concentrate with whatever you’re doing. Wether it’s a movie you’re watching, reading a book. Talking to your friends and family. Then one day you’re like “ Oh hey, today i didn’t panic. Today i didn’t even think about DP.” And that’s when you start recovering. You will have setbacks. It’s totally normal. You will have a good week, or a good month, and suddenly you feel it again. But no worries, It’s part of the recovery process. So if you’re reading this and you’re in the midst of it. And you’re suffering with this condition. YOU ARE GOING TO RECOVER. I know you probably seen people say this a million times and it sound cliche, BUT YOU ARE! Take my word for it. I used to read people’s testimonies and say that recovery is possible. And i wouldn’t believe them. But here i am, 100% recovered telling YOU that you will recover as well. Hang in there. Keep doing the things you love even if you have DP/DR. Live your life as if you didn’t have DP/DR.

      Was you never like not able to properly replay memories back like it didn’t seem real when u was trying to think of memories or didn’t feel right like flashing lights or something because that’s what I’m struggling with right now

    To anyone going through this - you will overcome it and feel 100% normal again (and likely, as mentioned in this video, with a greater sense of appreciation for life). My DP/DR set in just over two years ago (about 6 months after a traumatic mushroom trip and at a time when I was about to graduate from college and was under a lot of stress). The first 3 months or so were absolute hell - full of anxiety, confusion, and fear. I had never known what intense anxiety felt was like - but my state of fear had gotten to a point where even walking around in public was such a confusing cacophony of sound, light, and action, that the world would almost feel like it was tilting and morphing around me. I felt like I was going insane. The more I stayed off of forums and kept to grounding, sober activities (exercise, being with family, reading, staying away from mind-altering substances), the better I felt. It was two steps forward one step back. You'll have setbacks, but just be patient. The number one key to healing is being patient with yourself and not trying to dive too deeply into existential thoughts or being too hard on yourself. Life will feel beautiful again. You'll come out on the other side feeling stronger than before. Even reborn. I suffered from derealization and depersonalization pretty much 24/7 for at least 6 months, and it tapered off for another 18 months or so. And, even though it was a terrifying, lonely time, I wouldn't go back and change the last 2 years if I could. I can now look back on the last two years as a time when I became closer with myself and most meaningful, beautiful aspects of the human experience. I feel honored to have been able to go through it. If you're in the depths of it and are reading this, just know that you will feel this way at some point too. Go easy on yourself. Much love.

    Holy crap, watching this video after experiencing these symptoms for like 3 months from a terrible weed trip and I want to cry from happiness!! I’ve realized that I started to recover on my own already and it feels so validating to hear everything I’ve felt repeated!!     Watching this video is such an affirming experience bc every random thought you guys shared- the willingness to sacrifice a pinky or limb to get rid of the symptoms, triggering thoughts about the matrix, wishing for some terrible affliction to be the reason for the dpdr symptoms, pondering the consciousness/sentience of animals, thinking there would be some caveat to my recovery, etc etc are all EXACT thoughts I've had during the past 3 weeks of my dpdr onset and recovery (still in recovery, but doing very well). Feeling the most mind bending incomprehensible things ever, with accompanying physical symptoms, and then hearing someone else describe the exact same experience is actually so grounding and healing. Thank you for this video, I hope everyone who's suffering with dpdr (as well as anyone who's trying to support someone with dpdr) can find this video and feel the same comfort i did from it.

    I’ve seen so many videos that gave me some sort of relief 🥲 but never like yours. One of your videos where you say you thought you were developing dementia or Alzheimer’s that was me. My doctor even wrote in my records that I am fixated on having such a thing. That’s is how scary it feels and you know.I still experience horrible symptoms of depersonalization and derealization but I now know it has a name. This video also describes everything I feel and have felt. The feeling of being unfamiliar with surrounding la and people is my scariest. I am so grateful for you . It’s hard to explain to others without sounding so bizarre . We got this and thank you again .

    One of the points that resonated the most with me was how sometimes you wish it was a specific disease like a brain tumor (God forbid), because at least there could be an explanation for it and a list of steps, a sense of security that there's at least a direction to fight out of it whether you win or lose. For DP it feels like you are battling it within your own head, and that it's so vague no specific step can fix it. But this interview helped show that DP can be treated the same as any other condition and even with more ease, because it's just anxiety - something treatable and not unique to you. The recovery process noticeably shifts and becomes remarkably clearer when you truly recognize DP as just a symptom of anxiety rather than a life-consuming crisis. Hope I'm explaining it, this shift is truly profound to me and I can't really put it in words.

    Omg watching this video and seeing you guys talk about it, and me being able to relate is probably the most calming part of my entire experience with dp. Thank you so much for posting this so other people can be made more aware. The part from this video that made me go “omg I UNDERSTAND THAT” was when you mentioned “grieving for your past self..” I used to do that ALL the time and think about my parents as well in that sad nature. I’ve had dp for about 3 years but I would say that since it’s so on and off I’ve been able to control it more. I heard someone once say that they like to read to take their mind off of the anxiety bc you can’t worry and focus on reading at the same time. And also that’s another thing…when you boil this dp stuff down to the term “anxiety” it reminds us how NORMAL it is to feel such a way bc every single person experiences anxiety in this world to one extent or another. We are all in this together and everything will be okay ❤

      Thanks for your comment Angelina and I'm so glad to hear the video was helpful 😊 I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop 😊 Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com and my book The Depersonalization Manual.
      And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍

    i’ve been dealing with dp for the past three weeks after having it on and off during 2019-2021 and it had been way worse than i remember but watching these interviews and videos on your channel have been incredibly helpful especially this video its been rough but its becoming more and more manageable daily hopefully i’ll be all better soon, so yeah thank you again for the great helpful advice

      Have you ever got moments where you felt slightly okay and then suddenly it comes back very intense without even thinking about it,and did you ever get really strange dreams or u couldn’t remember very well what you was doing in just a day and when you tried to think back of what you have done all day nothing looks right in your head if that makes any sense

      Im 20years in and was relieved of it for 6years when i started drinking and doing brown and white. Now almost 3years sober the dpdr comes back slowly but gradually. I dont think i can do the whole addiction thing to relieve the dpdr. And 20years ago there was no information about this. 10years ago there was nearly no information about weed induced dpdr. Im baffeled by the amount of information that exist now and that already feels a bit comforting. Im happy to read someone that is here that is 10years in instead of a few months lol.     Watching this helped me unbelievably. Towards the end of watching this i was calm and comfortable enough that i had symptoms fading away. Ive been suffering from dpdr for a very short term, since yesterday morning when i smoked a joint and the high didnt go away. Been slowly recovering and feeling better over the day TRYING to act normal but honestly felt almost disabled, was weird. Im now in that stage of recovery where my thought process physically feels like its expanding back to normal, just like the tight band thing Mo was talking about. Strange condition, but luckily i know i can return back to normal!

      @@johnnyparra3440 Honestly man nearly 2 weeks and the change to normaility is gradual so you might not notice you are normal until you remember. I can smoke a joint nowadays and don't need to worry about it because I know my limits and do it less.

    It's very hard to recover from dpdr if you stop living the way you used to live before it...Just don't prevent anything that you did before,and it will go as quickly as it came, for me it was going out and it made me panick..I had it for 2 months and I recovered easily only after embracing it and letting my body do whatever it wanted to do....I felt better after 3-4 days and it disappeared within a week ...These videos helped me very much ,Thankyou for posting....And yes stop searching for recovery stories once you get to know the science behind DPDR

    It’s like walking around with a virtual reality head set on 24/7 with zero connection to anything around, just a constant feeling of floating into the nothingness of space with no sense of gravity, time, senses, concentration, reality, understanding and beliefs. The existential thoughts are so overwhelming it’s like being on a plane that hurtling towards the ground and you’re lost in complete terror with a sense of no control of the moment in time. I have had thins for many years but the last year has been crippling to the point I am literally a recluse, going out seems to trigger it to the point I question if I’m a ghost, if I’m really there. I really hope everyone beats this debilitating condition. I am so grateful for these videos it gives me not only hope but a sense of connection that I have been missing for years

    “what caused the DPDR was not the drug itself, but the intense anxiety that came with it.”
    Wow, this quote helps so much. Keep thinking I somehow permanently damaged my mental state because of the drug. But it was really from the panic the whole time?
    I keep reliving the panic I felt from time to time and it hurts badly, and sometimes just thinking about it causes panic attacks. I can’t even take a Benadryl without panicking thinking it’s going to make me hallucinate. Didn’t have a panic attack for a month until two weeks ago I was relaxed in bed and I suddenly started having a panic attack, then had constant anxiety, ocd and depersonalization thoughts and have had what feels like the worst week of my life. Feel distant from myself and everyone around me and lost interest in my personal projects.
    I’m seeing my therapist soon and thinking of getting the manual if this pain continues.
    I wish everyone suffering with this the best of luck.

      To me, it really sounds like you are dealing with the panic in an unhealthy way, fearing it. I know it is fucking difficult as hell, but if you just sit with the panic, let it do its worst, eventually, you will learn to be okay with it, and it will subside (which can take a lot of time and practice, but it's the most sure-fire way to deal with it). As for the constant anxiety and OCD, those could all be a part of post acute withdrawal. I am currently experiencing something similar, but I am in my natural state at the moment, so I feel like I can talk on this. I've been sober from weed for 51 days, and it's been a crazy ride the entire time. Some days I feel alright and just go about my day, others I feel like existence is pure torture with no escape (part of the existential OCD and tachycardia-induced anxiety.) It is all a part of the process of your brain repairing itself from trauma. Seeing your therapist is a great idea, but ultimately the only thing that will truly fix you is learning new coping mechanisms, and waiting it out. It is going to feel like it will last forever, but there has literally never been a case of that being true (especially for drug induced DPDR). Let me know if you want to DM or something to talk about it because I also feel like I need some support from someone who is also going through it, but that is up to you; no pressure. By the way, my DPDR, obsessive thoughts, and high anxiety weren't caused by a bad trip, but they started a few days after I quit weed.

      @@SlamJamMusic I'm actually feeling 90% better since I wrote this comment. When I started getting that feeling of "Oh no, the walls look like they're moving, I must somehow be high, my brain is permanently changed," (My DPDR started with a bad mushroom trip) I would say to myself, "I'm not high, these feelings are simply symptoms of anxiety." If I start getting negative thought spirals and feel like a panic attack is coming on, I would just tell myself "Bring it on, anxiety. Do your worst, It'd be so great to have a panic attack right now!", learned that tip from a video on the OCD and Anxiety youtube channel.
      I have not had a panic attack in a month. I thought I would never be able to do activities that I used to, but I'm finally able to concentrate on stuff without feeling afraid. Still going to therapy for help with the OCD but it's getting better now that I am able to stop doing the compulsions. We can all beat this, it does feel like mental torture in those moments when it's bad, but it does not last forever.

    Its amazing how much this channel and the website has helped me in a small amount of time! The internet really is filled with doom and gloom about this condition, but watching your videos and seeing the website, I'm actually already feeling better. Its still there, but it doesn't scare me as much.
    I had a question i'm not sure you could answer, but it would help me personally. With my DP, sometimes I find it hard to even distract myself with a movie or game, because sometimes the plot feels nonsensicle, or that i'm unable to follow the story or get immersed in a game. Is this also a symptom of DP? Its like a freaky short-term memory error that makes everything feel foreign.
    I gotta say, you're like a light at the end of this dark and terrifying tunnel of DP. Thank you for everything you do, you're saving lives!!!

    So glad I found your videos. At the beginning of this year I had a traumatic accident involving LSD, work made me stressed, sick family, toxic relationships and if that wasnt enough I got pregnant and had and abortion. Shortly after my abortion it all started and I thought: Thats it, Im finally going crazy. I thought I was developing dementia or had other illnesses.Its so hard to concentrate and remember what I did just 5 min ago. Like walking in a day dream , looking for answers that would explain what Im going through. You helped me a lot understanding whats happening and reading all these comments, helps me ground myself a little bit. Fighting for better days and better mental health 😁😁

    I just want to say a big Thankyou to the manual and the community. I have recovered after what seemed like a year of pure hell. There are times where I have really reflected on this experience. I believe that things do happen for a reason. This experience being as horrible as it was it changed my life for the better in terms of mindset. There is hope and I hope you all suffering from this issue remain hopeful. One big thing to remember is to not identify with this condition and see it as an experience. Consistency is key and watching these videos are very helpful as well. A book I recommend to all of you is the power of now. It has been a little bit over a year now since I have had this experience. I do still feel some symptoms from time to time but it passes learn to trust yourself and your gut. I’m done rambling god bless all of you.

      Oh and side note I managed to handle this drug free but don’t hesitate to seek help! And in the early stages of the condition stay away from stimulants and excessive alcohol use hangovers make it worse!

    My DP/DR experiences have always been acompanied by severe panic attacks. I don't know what hits first, or if one trigger the other, but they always come together.
    Thankfully I have never had to live with DP/DR on a daily basis. That would drive me insane.

    This almost made me cry of joy. I got way too high 5 days ago, and was watching the "nothing new on the west front" movie on netflix. I started thinking about how crazy it is that people go to war, like what's the point, ultimately? Then I started thinking about the human condition and civilization in general and had this feeling of "what's the point of it all? What is it all for?" It just didn't make sense and then it just started spiralling out of control to the point where nothing made sense at all. It felt like reality itself just didn't make sense. It felt like I broke my mind, like I was trapped in an infinite paradoxical hell outside of reality itself. I immediately started panicking as it felt like I lost my mind, like I went psychotic or something. It only lasted maybe 10-20 seconds but felt like 10 minutes. I tried focusing on the fact that I had consumed a drug and that it's just the drug doing it. Don't try and control it, simply acknowledge it and observe it with curiosity. This made it go away. I switched to watching a comedy and felt more or less fine afterwards.
    Then, I woke up the next day, felt fine and was like "damn, that was crazy". But then I started thinking about the experience, and all of a sudden I spiralled into a panic attack again. And this time it was different, because now I was sober, so if I'm having this experience sober I must really have gone crazy, right? And then it just got worse, feeling trapped inside my own mind with no way out. I was imagining myself being forever doomed to be a lunatic. Like I had really fucked up this time, like I had really gone full on crazy.
    In the days after it got better. The panic attacks were less frequent and less severe, but they weren't gone. I started googling a bit and came across the term DPDR. After reading some of your articles and watching this video, I feel so much relief and I feel like everything is going to be ok, because I can relate to so much of what you and Mo are talking about. It almost feels like you guys are describing my experience, lol. It helps so much to know that there's a name for what I went through, it's a thing that happens, and people can recover 100%. Thank you so much for this video. Much love to both of you.

    Sufferd from DP / DR since a i had surgery in 2019, which caused me to become tolerant from SSRI drugs. Tapered off the drugs (to fast taper) and the DP / DR got worse I keep experiecing thought about losing myself of can't seeing myself as a whole entity anymore. Like all parts of my body having their own will. Or half my body not being mine. Or can't recognize myself as a full person. Keeping having thought of being fragmented, Or developing Multi personality disorder and a splitbrain. Like my brain is being split in 2. one is controling something and i control something. Or cannot see myself as a full person anymore. Strange weird thoughts. It often gets worse when i try to deal with it. Like saying "this cant happen because im a full body" or something in that way. Racing thoughts and head pressure are common. Atleast 90% of my previous fears are gone and DP / DR is decreasing. But even if a doctors says my fears are unreasonable and impossible then i still have the feeling of being fragmented or losing my mind. Or losing control over my mind. as if im losing my mind.
    Is this really dp / dr or actually something else.

    Hi Shaun my first DP/DR was caused by weed almost 12yrs back. The episode also triggered a panic attack. With few years of medication and therapy I was completely cured. But few months I had a relapse with a panic attack in office due to mental confusion caused by sleep deprivation.
    This time as well I developed health Anxiety, after full healh checkups and muliple visits to doctor again the diagnosis was Anxiety. But this time My DP is triggered only when I am tired particularly in the evening. Is it still DP or something else?

      I’ve tried so much and the actual cure to this is time and patience js be patient w urself. I’ve taken magnesium every day for awhile due to complications. AND EXERCISE lots of it. It goes away be gentle w urself ur doing amazing!!!! Whenever it comes up js tell urself whatever. Move on and slowly but surely it will move and fade and eventually go away.

      @@ronakpahuja4553 Hey, I been feeling the same but I can tell you I did get a lot better, I am going to psychotherapy and working on myself like going to a mall with loads of people and seeing nothing hurts me, that’s just anxiety in reality plus I started walking everyday for 45 minutes, for I’d say 3 months straight now? I was rlly scared to go out of my house but slowly i got over it, I started with 10 min and extended it as long as I could , I was scared to run but two weeks ago I did and I felt like nothing can stop me, I thought can happen to me but in reality it’s rlly just in ur head, hopefully you’ll get better soon!

    i have dp/dr when i have mood swings and switch between feeling ok and feeling melancholic, it's like i can't recognize what is the real me and i feel like everything slow down and people seem's like robots, i suffer from mood disorder and social anxiety, it's the worst feeling, as bad as major depressive episodes. I live in fear and i feel like i will never be my old self.

      Hey, thanks for your comment -- I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com
      And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍

    I've been trying to have a normal life since I developed dpdr, but that's not how it works, I feel disconnected from everything 24/7, you can't forget that when you try to play your drums and you just can't feel anything. I'm doing everything to end anxiety but it's just not working, exercises, diet, nothing works. I've been stuck on this for over 5 months. And everything I do is meaningless. and the symptoms are present all the time. I'm glad that people can recover by not stopping their lives, but I didn't stop and it's just there all the time. this is hell.

    My house feels unfamiliar, my wife, and it damn near makes me cry when I look at my 6 month old son and he feels unfamiliar, I feel like I'm betraying him in some way, some days are fine but other days are terrible, anxiety and panic attacks, and disconnection

      Hey, you’ll be fine trust me. Address your anxiety and anxiety disorder and it will all go away eventually. It will definitely take time, it won’t happen overnight. But definitely fix your anxiety first, it’s all caused by anxiety.

    Hello Shaun, I am having another anxiety now that as u said that dp can also be caused by a brain injury, so is that means that dp caused by such trauma is permanent? Please tell me. Although i never suffered any head trauma but still is that type of dp is not anxiety driven?
    I got dp after I had two days of tension headache after my exam and the while I was playing a battle royale game and had some panic feeling while defeating the enemy and suddenly i felt my mind go lighter.

      The fact that your anxiety was triggered by the fact that he said "brain injury" is how anxiety works. This is anxiety, fear triggered by a thought "what if i have ........." , or even just by hearing an illness. Be aware of this,that is just a anxiety,those are just triggers. Anxiety makes all bigger,be aware of this,it makes a thought 1000 times more fearful and if you follow it you end up in a cycle

Just be aware of the fear,feel it,let it be ,dont believe your thoughts,instead u can say just "oohh, so that is what i think when i have anxiety" be curious about it, recognize it,recognize when you re in the circle and just let the fear be,it cant hurt you,istead of fearing the fear,just let the real fear be

    Question, does doing stuff that gives you anxiety worsen dpdr? I’ve been going through dpdr for about 2 months now. I finally accepted that it’s not harmful in no way & I’ve been back to work but I still get a lot of anxiety towards work or when something is coming up , I’ve noticed it worsened it in the process. But I also don’t wanna sit & wait around till it’s gone..

      So I can say the same thing, I’m going on a month, and I feel like I’m not in control I feel like I’m loosing it, going to work makes me panic because everything feels so unreal and I reminisce in the Past saying I wasn’t like this, having anxiety I can honestly say it does make it worse, I keep trying to cope with it but I can’t it seems like it’s to mucho

    I’ve had mine for like a month or two now only 13 and has rlly scared me as it came when I was out with a mate at Thorpe park after I went on a ride and that’s when I got dp I’m due to start skl by the end of October and rlly hoping I will be back to normal by then as I don’t want to go to skl when I have this I rlly want to bye your book to but I don’t think I mum woudl let me is there any advice I could get from u just by a little comment as I’m abit stressed about it and rlly need someone to talk to about it

    Ive been suffering from it for 4 years now and I am currently a senior in high school. I sort of forget what normal life was like and its depressing. I dont have bad episodes anymore but its like im going through a mild episode 24/7 everyday. My parents don’t understand it, my therapist didnt know what I was talking about. Can someone refer me to the best book to recover or the absolute best ways to recover?

If so can how can I opt for a refund and instead get a non digital version? I feel like it would better help me recover if its non-digital, so the progress tracker would make more sense.

      @@Dpmanual and I have one question if you can please respond, with my dpdr it isnt as intense to the point where I cant be with my family, unless I feel really stressed out, even when I do not have bad anxiety or stress I still feel disconnected from reality. Even when I am not having a bad episode or thinking about not having a bad experience, which makes it worse I am still very disconnected but not totally freaking out. Does this just come with having it? When I look at things they are there but for some reason dont seem like they are there and have a sort of dark hue to it. I have dealt with this everyday for 4 years.

    Shaun I recovered completely but, I saw the negative effect of weed. Can I smoke one time to experience the best of the weed?? Or will it again trip the bad?? Bcs I think it's better to see the positive effect of the weed so I can do full stop horrific thought about weed, need your advice😊

      I do know of some people who have made complete DPDR recoveries and who have safely gone back to smoking weed. However, I would strongly recommend that you avoid weed and other drugs completely at the very least until you've made a complete and 100% recovery. Also, you do need to understand that if weed triggered the Depersonalization, there's always going to be a risk that it could happen again. Now, once you've recovered from DP and understand what the condition is, it's a lot less likely to return as an ongoing condition -- because if you ever encounter the feelings again you recognize them and can allow them to pass naturally. Again, I wouldn't recommend doing it myself, but the decision is up to you. Hope that helps!

    Do people also have problems with their vision? I feel like my vision is always off. Like I can see/read perfectly fine but something feels off. Almost like my eyes aren’t fully understand what they’re seeing, and (maybe) a bit blurry sometimes.

      i will force myself to quit, because i feel bad when i try to not smoke, but i feel worse if I couldn't stop myself from smoking.     I have dpdr since 6 months now and I can't express enough what a living nightmare this is. I have and still am going through all the possible symptoms I read online and in a very severe way. Now the most prevailing one is that I have the feeling that everything and everyone in the whole universe are just a figment of my imagination and they don't actually exist, moreover that existence is just a vague illusion...is this normal? it makes me feel so desperate and helpless and anxious.       Man i've been having exact same thought, it has troubled me for longest but one night I sat down and put on paper what was bothering me and it helped a lot, it went like this, I asked myself these few questions:
      - My biggest fear is that people and world around me isn't real.
      When did I start getting that thought? I used to live 22 years before that thought and after one bad weed experience I got that thought.
      I got it because I felt severily disconnected from myself after bad weed trip and my mind was racing trying to find answers.
      I didn't get anxious and derealized because of that thought, I got that thought because I was anxious and derealized.
      The thought is result of my derealization, not other way around.
      Once I put that in my head I felt a lot more at ease.
      I know that at your point now it might be even hard to you to think that I am a real person writing this with a mind of my own and it sucks that I can't show you that in any way that will make you believe me.
      I had that problem looking at my brother and telling him, please show me that you are a real person somehow, and I realised that nothing he said would make me believe it and I really panicked I thought I was gonna be like this forever.
      But with time as you distract yourself and feel your surroundings, when you start participating in the world around you, you will just know that world is seperated from your mind and that people around you are real, trust me I went through this, and I thought I never will. You will see that life is our greatest gift and it can be so beautiful again.
      Those thoughts at some point will stop getting you anxious and you will even forget about them, you will be back to your normal life.

    I honestly rlly do want to recover fully from dpdr.. but I want to get better than just how I was before. Even before dpdr I had lots of anxiety and low self esteem. My goal is to recover from dpdr and to become an even stronger person mentally than before

The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop.     An hour ago I had the worst DPDR episode, it started 9 months ago due to weed trip.
    I was thinking I was going completely insane,people around me aren't real I am in a dream everything is distorted, and then all of a sudden I just prayed in myself and said one thing, I am not gonna fight against these thoughts anymore, i'm going to be cold, feel all the anxiety and do everything I usually do no matter how bad I feel. The moment I let all anxiety and bad thoughts come to me I felt relief, big relief. And when I accepted it I realised how bizzare and stupid my thoughts were, but when I was fighting against them I was feeling incredible panic, you just need to accept your thoughts, it does sound cliche but it really helps.

    Iv had it all day every day for about 7/8 years now I went to the doctors and they said anxiety.. but I didn’t explain it properly, haven’t went back since

    Did anyone get where for just one day they felt normal then suddenly you vision just goes black and you go back to feeling high again that’s exactly what happend to me when I was with my mate it was my first time out since I got dp/dr and I went out into town with my mum I was extremely dizzy after but just brushed it of and went out with my mate after to the shops on the way back my vision just went black and starting feeling high my hole world spinning it was awful I duno what brought it on and that’s so scary the fact I just went out and was fine then all of a sudden came back on the hole feeling of feeling high and all the panic feeling like I was hallucinating that’s why I haven’t seen my friends since cause I’m scared it’s going to happen again

    I feel this I purposely sleep all day long afraid to be awake because when I'm awake I feel near fainting and afraid to walk and weightless

    So let me tell my story if anyone could help me. I am from Nepal and I got dp/Dr after smoking weed it has been now 14 months and I have not recovered . When I sit in a room I feel like m stuck there forever. I think all bad things that could happen.i feel like m going crazy as soon as I wake up. Through out the day I feel I am gonna be stuck in the loop. so many intrusive thoughts about hurting some one hurting myself every kind of intrusive thoughts.i keep battling every single second . I always think am stuck in a psychedelic trip ...how do I get better. I need to earn go to foreungn county to support my family....what do I do .my mind keep only thinking negative stuff ..please I do want to get out from this.....

I know it can be frightening but remember that it's just your body and brain's natural response to stress and anxiety. It's not permanent and it can't hurt you 😊 You can and will recover.
