    Well done content man. Good tips. One thing I would add to the progression servers to ensure longevity is this...play what you enjoy AT raids. While grouping is important..many groups are semi auto now, and will be more that way once Truebox is relaxed/dropped. If you hate playing your class at raids...and play something because you want to fill a need for the guild...you will burn out. Example...Shaman. You either love them or hate them...and if you play one because your guild is short on Shamans....that will be a nose dive to uninstall at Mach 3. Vaniki all the way. Real challenge is back.

    Great content man! I was like 10 when EQ was originally released and never had a computer that could run it. But always dreamed of it, now as an adult I get to experience it here in Mischief and after playing almost every MMO out there. Nothing quite gets me excited like adventuring in EQ and experiencing what the kid version of me always wanted too. Keep up the great videos!

    Came back 2 months ago. Meh, you are correct, a LOT of us called it quits at PoP. PoP greatly widened the gap between casual and hardcore, and the release of WoW didn't help.
    That said, I"m trying Yelinak, and have to say, that's the game I enjoyed the most. Maybe the current version is just as good, but I don't have the time required to master the tons of junk added since PoP (though mercs was a fantastic idea).

I would never go back for the same reason i don't play wow classic. I had my experiences and chasing nostalgia leads nowhere. But if you never player EQ, get in there, find a spawn camp and get to leveling.

    Came back to EQ recently played from 1999 to about 2015. I am not a big fan of the new leveling system. I played on the legends server,that was the best experience Ive ever had on the game,chasing or being chased by a dragon across 6 or 7 zones on a three-day event ect "what an epic adventure " .My old guild I went to on Bristlebane is still there .Here is what pisses me off ALOT !! The damn achievements I spent literally years in Misty Thicket and other zones now i need to go back and do all the quests kill all the bosses I am already one with the wall I did my time up to Underfoot.

    I, for one, am pretty sour about the newer gaming companies (Daybreak, AKA Day broke our Games & Darkpaw, AKA Dark poo Gaming) not introducing a third and fourth epic quest for us to sink more game time into instead of more grinding. The epics are what made Kunark extra fun and then Omens of War expac with the 2.0's.
    Why have we not seen an epic bow for Rangers? Why no 2handed weapon-instrument for Bards? weapon+ shield sets for tanks? etc...

    Do you think there is much merit in Daybreak releasing a P1999-like server with all the quality of life improvements included in the TLP servers?

    • @Redbeardflynn
      @Redbeardflynn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think so since p99 exists and has been officially recognized. I think daybreak also realized how much the population didn't want servers that don't progress after they tried to release a pop locked server. Still an interesting premise though!

  • @tocu98
    @tocu98 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My feeling is most people stick around into POP as it was when the orginal game fell off hard (due to 3 extension/exspansions in a row that were lack luster at best and WOW coming out). As to a sizable population similar to past TLPs I think that is more questionable than before, I base this on FV being the most popular live server and some how thornblade never needed to be merged into Mischief so the popularity of those servers are persistent. The 2 boxing is the big wrinkle here as that is compelling to many like tradable loot.
    I will say if people plan on playing on the level locked and you want an idea how to make some money, look into what items are good for berserkers stuff for them is a bit more locked at as far as I know till the later exspansions at launch and I doubt outside of the top guilds will be doing Time or the main GOD zones (we dont know how they are going to tune stuff for level 40s at launch. Going back to my population comment the question is what if any rewards for those achievements are if its nothing or next to nothing to incentives people to join to get them that wouldnt automatically.
    It certainly will be an interesting time but one thing is for certain I think most have stopped looking at TLPs as the pantheon waiting room so that kinda a plus.

  • @runepetersen5698

    Love the video mate, as per usual. Overall i agree with you on all aspects, tho i still believe that Yelinak needs some kind of "hook" to make it stand apart from the old style TLPs, without "infringing" on the Vaniki crowd. Vaniki isnt for me, but i really do like that they are trying something new and not releasing two basically identical servers next to eachother. I still hope we can see a TLP with the Relaxed Truebox system right away. Boxing truly only adds good things to a server - Obviously, im not talking about the cheaters that need to use "program this or that", to help them play a full group or three. I'd like to 3 box and give Daybreak 3 subscriptions, however, that's gonna cost me 3 times the electricity and computerwear, for no reasonable reason. Truebox hurts casual players, since cheaters will cheat and ignore it anyway - And they can much more easily monopolize the market to do their RMT'ing. Opening up boxing for everyone, to a lesser degree, will alleviate some of this "chokehold" that multi-box RMT'ers have.
    Keep up the good work and if you get there too, i'll see you on Yelinak

    • @Redbeardflynn
      @Redbeardflynn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really appreciate the kind words, thank you! I like the idea of the relaxed truebox rules and actually advocated for them back when....I believe it was Mangler? launched. I think at the time I was speaking to two-boxing because back in the "before times" when I played on Combine I duo'd an SK and a Shaman because it was simple...play the SK and only have to cast buffs/slows/dots....maybe send pet if I'm feisty. I was a *bad* boxer. Like I was actively terrible, but before mercenaries it let me do a bit more when people weren't around.
      I just want people to play and have fun!

    • @runepetersen5698
      @runepetersen5698 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Redbeardflynn I absolutely agree with that too - not that you are a bad boxer, albeit, it does sound like it huehue. But the part of having fun and letting people have fun their way, within reason. I liked being able to go somewhere with my Mage main and shaman box and be able to start up a grind, while grabbing LFG'ers from around the world. I often ditched my shaman for another player and just used it outside the group or, at higher levels, had it parked somewhere for some drop i needed, while o focused on the mage. It was great, i didnt hurt anyones game and it didnt look massively intrusive, like it does when some bonehead walzes up with 36 characters on follow expecting me to believe thats legit, in any way shape or form :P This is where the "fun within reason" aspect comes in - EQ has rules and you can't use programs to help you play at all, Daybreak just does not enforce it, so people don't care anymore. I'd pay good money for a server that allowed limited boxing but absolutely prevents ANY kind of cheat from happening.

    • @Redbeardflynn
      @Redbeardflynn  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@runepetersen5698 Yes! I always treated my shaman as a spot-filler until someone who could actually play was there. And it got significantly harder to be remotely effective the longer the game went on because it grew more complex than hitting Turgur's every few minutes.
      The worst boxing I ever saw was definitely on Ragefire which I think is what in turn creating the truebox rules which honestly I think have been good. People will always find ways around rules (in every game) but it definitely limited it on Phinigel. Getting KS'd by, as you say, 36 characters, was not fun.

    • @runepetersen5698
      @runepetersen5698 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Redbeardflynn Magefire and Boxjaw definitely had issues with rampant boxing, as it was easier to do it since they didnt care about people using ISboxer. I saw many many 6 box crews right from the start and, unlike when i played on Fippy (It was a different mentality i guess), on Ragefire/Boxjaw people didn't ditch their boxes for real people. I even saw raids, where peoples boxes got prio over real people, because the main tank insisted that his box needed to accumulate DKP and get geared, before actual people. But, thats just bad people being bad, but the server rules let it be easier to be asshats about it.
      I definitely think Truebox has helped A LOT with those issues overall - To me, its just not as balanced as it could be, because TLP server see attrition even before the first expansion drops and the ability to box for everyone, without having to buy more comps and waste electricity, can offset that pretty well. Relaxed Truebox at OoW, where the majority of players have already been long gone? That's not helpful for players - Only for Daybreak, to obtain a little more cash before the next TLP

      @@WhyYouAskingMe It’s all a pretend interaction in a video game. But I’m glad you prefer having fewer options and taking longer to get what you want.

    Honestly I don't like picks or agents of change. Nothing wrong with gatekeeping or letting the top guilds fight for there raid boss . DPS races were the best part about pvE servers. These changes remove the competition aspect of EverQuest. On blue servers
