    Rode actually says that you definitly shouldn't use an inline preamp since that can cause more white noise and other noises with this unit. The best and cleanest sound is achieved with the rodecaster pro 2 alone

  • @LaloRacer1

    Seems like the CL-1 wouldn’t be necessary given the preamps on the Rodecaster Pro II are powerful enough 👍

      That is where I landed on it. I’m going to keep it in case I run into a situation where I need it in the future. However, I’ve turned in 8 successful Voice over projects since making this video. I’ve done all 8 without the Cloudlifter and they’ve turned out just fine.

      Hey. Thanks for reaching out. I think you have to turn on Phanton Power to fire up the cloud lifter.

    do you think this would work fine with 4 SM7B's plugged into a RCP2 without a cloudlifter

    i have the pro 1 and im debating upgrading or just getting cloudlifters for the mics. Any advice?

    • @soundjustlikeapro
      @soundjustlikeapro  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey. Thanks for reaching out. It all depends on how many people you have on SM7b’s I guess. If it’s 2 or more, I’d say go ahead and upgrade. The better preamps and the combo jack will take a long way. By the time you’d buy two CL1 for the mics, you’re half way to a Pro II.

      @@soundjustlikeapro ya that's what I'm thinking as well. Possibly sell the Pro 1 and seeing what I get for that. But it would be cool to keep both, decisions decisions...

    i think you do. not sure how you have your audio sounding so good and loud on such a low gain setting without the cloudlifter. i use OBS to record by audio/videos. and i literally maxed out my gain on the RCP2 at 76 DBs and it stay on average at -10DBs in OBS. doesn't even clip which you think it would at that high of a gain setting. i'm not sure what's going on. i knew the sure sm7b was gain hungry but mine seems way more gain hungry compared to yours. so my setting are 65 DB on the interface. and then i have to add 17DB in addition in OBS when i get ready to record. doesn't make any sense. but it seems i at least need a cloud lifter.

      I think you’re doing something wrong somewhere

    • @soundjustlikeapro
      @soundjustlikeapro  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for reaching out! I'm not sure that a Cloudlifter would help in your situation. Something else is at play there. Something seems to be wrong in your signal chain. I would verify that the microphone cable is working properly and is of good quality. Our signal lives or dies by our cabling. The one I'm using is a 10 foot Mogami Gold cable but I suspect my results would be just as good with any properly functioning microphone cable.
      I don't know much about OBS but I've used it a little and I've never had an issue with gain staging there. I also know that there are a lot of fake SM7B microphones out there. Are you sure you have a good one? Stay in touch. I'd love to know what fixes it.

      I use the SM7B with the Rodecaster Pro 2 on only 55 Gain, and it's plenty loud and people say the quality is beyond crisp. So something has to be wrong on your end sadly. Did you get it figured out?

    Bro I have a Audio-Technica AT897 shotgun mic did you think I need a cloud-lifter I have the rode caster pro the the 1st version

    • @soundjustlikeapro
      @soundjustlikeapro  ปีที่แล้ว

      I copied this from the product features for this mic on B&H.
      “The AT897's moderate sensitivity delivers optimal performance when paired with high-gain, low-noise microphone preamps.”
      I would say that that mic could work well on the two mixers that I showed here. I would say that the Cloudlifter is worth a shot because of it’s clean boost. I am hesitant to say that it will absolutely work because it stands a chance of highlighting the noise that it seems like the microphone has anyway.
      Are you having trouble keeping the noise out of it? That sentence I pasted into here seems like the nicest way possible to say the the microphone is inherently noisy.

    • @fredoverflow
      @fredoverflow 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The AT897 is a _condenser_ microphone. The Cloudlifter boosts _dynamic_ microphones. They're simply not compatible products.

    • @soundjustlikeapro
      @soundjustlikeapro  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @fredoverflow the phantom power from the device stops at the Cloudlifter. The 897 is capable of being powered with one internal AA battery. They could work together perfectly except my initial feeling remains that the inherent noise of the 897 would just be too much after a 20db boost.

    So when you use a pice of equipment don’t use the brand name to introduce as a product. If the cloudlifter is the brand name but it’s a DI dox
    Let us know your using a DI box

    • @soundjustlikeapro

      Thanks for reaching out. And thanks for the tip. The Cloudlifter CL1 is referred to as “The Cloudlifter” by everyone I’ve ever heard speak of it. Also, it’s not a DI Box. It’s an in line 20db clean boost preamp if we’re getting specific. I’ll add a link here if you want to learn more about what it is and what it does.
