Thanks for reaching out. That is not a feature on the F8n or F8n Pro that I’ve ever seen, my friend. Unless it’s in a firmware update that I’ve missed, that doesn’t exist. It’s really crazy that it doesn’t exist considering how great that feature is on other recorders.

@@soundjustlikeapro sorry confused here, are you saying there is no safety track available on the f8n, if so ,there is 100%, this is my point, you failed to mention it in the clip, no need for any update.

@@davidmaher3127 my dude. There is no option for a safety track on the F8n and F8n pro. I failed to mention that as an option because it isn’t an option. I would love it to be an option on this device though. If you know how to make that happen, send me a video of you doing it on yours. I’ve often wanted to have that feature. If it exists, teach me something by showing me.

I use it all the time.. unless i have a one off f8n, no need for it on pro, as 32bit.. has been on every F zoom recorder over last number of years, F4 F8 F8n, uses 1 and 5, 2 and 6, 3 and 7 and 4 and 8, set gain to lower on second track, fall back when they start yelling.

@@robrock6966 that’s great that you found something that you love and can work with. I didn’t find that in this device but a lot of people have. They’re popular for a reason. Silent practice is the way to go. We did that with a band that practice at my house for years. 2 times a week, we had a silent concert. Passersby probably thought we were crazy in there just singing our hearts out, ha! Have to do what we have to do. 😎

Thanks for reaching out. At the time that I was using this device as the direct output for stage, I have a fan snake of TRS to XLR. I’ve also ran a few Instrument cables from the outs to an array of DI’s. All of this works but it’s not efficient. A brand called “Loop Community” has a box called “Track Rig.” Track Rig is exactly what you need. It’s a USB out of a computer into the box and the. 8 assignable XLR jacks that you’d patch straight to your stage snake box. I think it’s $500 but it’s a solid piece of gear from what I can tell.

Thanks for reaching out. Absolutely not. The input stage of this device isn’t good. There’s not enough headroom and the gain knob adjustment is too broad. It goes from too quiet to clipping with just a touch. Not sure if they all are like this but mine is.

@@soundjustlikeapro .. for me if i have a piece of kit that runs hot on the inputs then ok its easily dealt with but if i have kit that doesn't sound good like maybe the converters are below par then im pretty much screwed .. this is an important distinction to put across.

@@bepitan makes sense. To me they go together. To me, if you can’t get the gain staging right, it doesn’t matter how good the conversion is because it’s heavily impaired on the analogue side before it even gets to the converter.

@@Appleloucious thank you for reaching out. Feedback is a good thing. I’ve been planning a more thorough breakdown of this unit because I still absolutely don’t like it for a recording input. I think that nobody that takes themselves seriously should have one for a recording input device. I’ll go deeper next time.

Thanks for reaching out. Mogami Gold my friend. Thanks but it is a noticeably worse sound with preamps that don’t have much adjustment before the headroom disappears. It’s an inferior unit. I’m hoping the 3rd gen worked some of this stuff out.

The preamps are so good on the Zoom F8n Pro that I doubt the Cloudlifter is necessary. It may not provide any benefit.

Thanks for reaching out! Before answering yes or no, I would need to know the format of your podcast. If everyone is in the same room, the answer is yes. However, if you’re looking to have a call in show or web interview format, the answer could still be yes even though it’s a little more complicated. In the second example, you would lean heavily into the mix minus feature that is already built into the Rodecaster. The scarlet doesn’t have a built-in mix minus but there is a way to set it up using a program called loopback or using an aggregate device in ProTools or logic, pro X in which we blend the scarlet with a digital, web based interface. I set it up that way for one episode of a podcast and then abandoned it because it was a lot to keep up with while also being the host.

Thanks for reaching out! I can definitely see how you would think that. And that would make sense as the logical explanation if that were the only problem. I also really don’t like how there’s basically no headroom and dynamic range in the preamps. It goes from weak signal to clipping pretty quickly. That combined with actual sound of is more than enough for me to not want to use it for tracking.

Thanks for reaching out. The “other one” is something that has been discontinued and was actually less expensive when new. It was just built better and I would give literally anything to have it back. I was foolish to sell it without testing the Scarlett first. The entire Scarlett line of this generation sounds cheap and not “so good” as you said. I know that now and there’s nothing I can do about it. Thanks for taking the time to give feedback. Thanks for reaching out! That’s great. They certainly have their place in the market for sure. I like mine for the output routing options. When used for that, I love it too. I just don’t like the input sound or functionality.

You will definitely need the Cloudlifter in the chain for the Podtrak P4. The preamps on that guy weren’t super great.

@@soundjustlikeapro glenn from spectre media said the preamps have lower headroom to be careful with cranking signal. Whats your thoughts on this?

@@Mylastday666 that is on the list of reasons that I don’t like it. It’s hard to find a sweet spot between not enough signal and then clipping. It’s hard to maintain a good dynamic range on input.

What would you use to expand inputs on a UAD? I have an Apollo twin but I need a 3rd input for recording. I was looking at an 18i20 or ada8200 bc it’s not a primary input. The 2 pres are usually enough. Just not always.

@@sergiopaulo4660 I have the Apollo Twin and The Apollo 16, Apollo 16 doesn't have preamps, but you can get a Apollo with Preamps. I am running my Apollo 16 through my analog cionsole which I use the Preamps on the analog mixer. I love the sound of The UA Apollos, thinking about buying the Apollo 16p (with preamps) You can even change the pre's with their software. The sound is amazing!
