It is also important to know that sometimes your reel will not lay line correctly which will cause wind knots. I had a pflueger president that had a spool that was too wide. It allowed gaps in the line lay at both the bottom and the top of the spool. These gaps would result in the line being able to pull a few coils off at once during a cast. The thing would throw up to 3 wind knots on a single cast with a 8 strand braid. Other reels I own have no issues.
I always feather my line even when it was mono. Never really thought about it I guess because I grew up fishing plastic worms in wooded lakes and rivers with lots of overhanging brush. Getting the lure to the bank under the brush required a lot of control. According to some pros overfilling the spool is a major factor in wind knots. Penn reels have a line on the inside lip indicating the maximum amount of line.
After watching this, I will practice it. Every single time I go fishing I get wind knots. It also gets tangled to the guide above the reel and bend the guide forward. I lost many lures this way. Hopefully I get the hang of it and it works out good and knots are eliminated. It's a major factor for me. Once I get it perfected, it will take a load off my shoulder.
I cup the spool with my hand, close the bail and i always pull my line into the roller bearing before i start reeling.virtual elimination of wind knots.
I always close the bail manually as we. The bail arm mechanism lasts a lot longer. I'd like to try a bailess reel but not available in my part of the world.
I never get wind knots, no matter what braid I use. I watched this video, purely out of curiosity and sure enough! I cup the line with my left hand before I close the bail manually. So, I guess I can attest these methods work.
Great video! Most of the time my problem is at night. Can’t follow the lure to know when to stop it.
Thanks for the tip!... I've been plagued with wind knots lately... I will definitely be trying this method!

I usually stop the line flow by hand when the lure hits the water before closing the bail. That has always been effective for me.
Again, Thanks Capt, always great information. Just about ready for some Pompano Jig fishing. Good fishing and stay safe out there.

A good practice
