Thanks for the nice ride through Port Richmond. I used to drive along Richmond Terrace about 15 years ago, the only real difference is the new Bayonne Bridge and the road has been resurfaced.
I was born not far from you in West Brighton area off of Richmond Terrace on Davis Ave by Walker Park. I was on Delafield Place. Honestly loved that area with the look of the homes, Walker Park, and my absolute favorite thing Snug Harbor. Lately been missing it so I'm watching these videos. 😂
@2:48. That pizzeria was called Express Pizza in 1988. I worked there when they first opened. I lived to the right on Charles Ave. @3:24 this corner has changed many times. Only the Chinese restaurant is still there from the 80"s. The building on the right used to be Northfield Savings Bank. The furniture store used to be many things. It was a deli in the 80's. On the left, that used to a discount store. @3:48 that discount store has been there since the 80's. It was owned by Koreans, a very very nice family. @4:00 that's always been a check cashing place since the 70's but under different names. The salon next to it was a pharmacy in the 80's. Bought my first condoms there 😂😂 Across the street that used to be Woolworths. In 1978 the first thing I ever saved money to buy was Greedo action figure from Star Wars. It cost $2.78 and I'll never forget the day I had saved up enough coins to buy it. When the cashier rung it up it was more than $2.78 (my first lesson about sales tax 😅) I was so disappointed but the cashier let me have it anyway--it was truly a magical moment in my life, seriously. @4:34 make a right turn onto Bennett and that's where Brownies hobby shop was. Used to love that place. I used to build 1/48 scale fighter planes and later joined the Air Force. I think that building on the left was a Woolco in the 70's. @4:42 that's always been a men's clothes store since the 70's. It used to be called Paul's Men shop. The slogan was "Big or small we fit them All" The overpass was when Staten Island had a train running through Port Richmond. @5:02 there used to be a car service there. I think it was Sam's, and then Port Richmond and then I think DeJoy's. @6:29 where the flag is, there used to be a tiny deli called Caroline's back in the 70's. Ms Caroline and her husband Harold. Many Many times my family would have had nothing to eat if it wasn't for her. She used to give credit. I remember her ledger she kept and how I used to go with cash to pay up what my mom owned. They were an elderly couple back in the 70's and are long gone now but GOD bless them ❤❤❤❤. @7:06. Queen Ann's car wash has been there forever, since the 70's @7:14 right where the road closure sign is is 26 Jewett Street, lived there. The park across the street has more childhood memories that I can recall it looks very different than it did in the 70's but it was always a fun place. So many many memories there. The bus Depot ahead to the left. We used to sneak in there and play when we was kids. Sometimes we got caught, sometimes we didn't lol. @8:39 Decker Ave has always been the best street in Port Richmond to go on Halloween--I still go there to this day. Temple Emanuel been there forever @10:47. That's where I lived. 210 Charles Ave. From that home I turned 18 and joined the US Air Force. That was my last Address on Staten Island ❤❤❤. @12:05 my mom went to Port Richmond in the 60's. My sister in the 80's. That light wasn't there in the 80's. I went to Wagner. @14:10 I remember when they renamed this part of the Expressway. I attended the ceremony. This was late 80's early 90's
Oddly I was born in Augusta GA, but moved to Staten Island (also known as Richmond County) when I was young and spent most of my life there, I recently moved back to Augusta when I found that Augusta is also know as Richmond County. I often say of Staten Island "It's a nice place to live, but I wouldn't want to visit", but I love and miss it.
Born and lived on Staten Island from '71 - '98. Lived in Port Richmond from '82 - '88. That was St. Roch's church on the left in the beginning, got my Confirmation there in '85. Of course, Denino's and Ralph's. Can't believe Nat's men's store is still there; got some shirts there back in the late 80s. And don't worry, it was still pretty ghetto back then, it's just changed from white to brown. :)
God , I use to hang out there in that shithole in the 80's.There and the projects. 5 million bucks couldn't bring me back. GOOD LUCK. Who came up with this idea ?I remember a friend Rob who lived on Ann st..Amazing stuff.
It’s culturally NJ, but is part of NYC, and doesn’t feel like NY and tries to be Nassau/Suffolk or Westchester/Rockland Counties, but it’s not. The only reason why I still think of it as NYC, is because of MTA EXPRESS Buses, the traffic lights, & the light poles.
It wasn't always like that. Mexicans first started showing up in the late 80's early 90's First, just a few here and there and then by the early 2000's there was many.
Horrible area now tons of homeless shelters being built the one on Caselton and PR Ave is a he'll hole police parked outside day and night.Lots of mentally disturbed ppl and tons of food carts all over the place Came here in 1983 it is the worst I have seen Moving out of NY soon.
I love port Richmond, one of the few pockets of walkability in Staten Island.
Thanks for the nice ride through Port Richmond. I used to drive along Richmond Terrace about 15 years ago, the only real difference is the new Bayonne Bridge and the road has been resurfaced.

Left in 2007 . School then started my family
@@anthonyc1776 do you ever come back and are you still on staten island.
No, unfortunately . I live in West New Jersey . It is peaceful and relaxing. No traffic. Kids can play outside all day and extremely safe.
@@anthonyc1776 have been back since 2007 just to visit.
