    It may be easier, but you are not counting the hand reworking. As a kid on vacation in Maine, we would gather around a fire on the beach of they family's lake shore property. It was the most peaceful and friendly few hours of my summers. I am glad your family does not face the domestic combat which marked much of my "home life" I have seen the Fire Ring. Full and flaming it cannot hold a candle to the warmth, joy, and comfort of a single Morgan Heart. God Bless you.

    One full cord out here in the SoCal mountains is 4’x4’x8’, tightly stacked, or 128 cu. ft. We get $275 - $375 per cord, delivered, depending on the season, of Black Oak, White Oak, or California Live Oak.

    • @joewoodchuck3824
      @joewoodchuck3824 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly correct. In fact it's written into law here. But to expand on that the loose (ok, pun intended) rule of thumb is that the legal tightly stacked cord is 80% the volume of piled or dumped wood. Add 32 cubic feet in that case, which amounts to a total of 160 cubic feet or 6 cubic yards.
      I'm not sure that counting buckets of a certain stated volume is accurate enough though unless it's been worked out empirically.

    • @buddyseifert9507
      @buddyseifert9507 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      joe woodchuck, 6 cubic yards is162 cubic feet, calculated out. CA Weights and Measures defines a cord as “tightly stacked”. There are a lot of shysters that dupe the city folk with 100-110 cu ft cords. It weighs about the same, 1 ton Too hot and a Red Flag, extreme fire danger, day so it’s too hot to even think about cutting and splitting today. Gonna survey some dead oaks later today.

    Are you sure that you have a full cord in the trailer? You mentioned that stacked, a full cord fills up the trailer. You also mentioned that dumping wood into the totes is 1/2 the wood versus stacking the wood in the totes. I bet you have less than a full cord in that trailer.
    It seems to me that you need a better test. Use the firewood bucket to bring over large quantities of wood, then manually stack the wood into the trailer. Once you have filled the trailer by stacking, then you will know how many buckets you need for your full cord. Then you can time how long it takes to fill the trailer with that number of buckets of firewood... and also see how full you need to fill the trailer when just dumping it into the trailer from the bucket.

    • @OutdoorsWithTheMorgans

      @@thepotterer3726, I thought a cord was cut, split and stacked and measured 4 x 4 x 8 ? Not whole, unprocessed timber, at least around here that's what a cord is.

      The rule of thumb is 160 cubic feet (6 cubic yards) of loose firewood equals an official 128 cubic feet (1 cord) tightly stacked (80% of loose). It's therefore quite useful to know the volume of the truck or trailer used to haul it.

    • @joewoodchuck3824
      @joewoodchuck3824 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unless those sunlight sensitive sunglasses have improved a lot I can tell you that they suck. They respond too slowly and only turn dark if sunlight is actually on them. So if you're in the shade but looking toward sunny areas, they'll remain clear. When they do change state it needs to happen nearly instantly to be of much use, which they don't. Been there, done that.

    If you cut split and stacked a 4 x 4 x 8 stack and called it a cord you are giving close to 1 1/4 cords of wood. A true measure of 1 cord is 4 foot long round wood { not even split} by 4 feet high by 8 feet . long. This measure has been established for more than 100 years.

    Wish I had 1 of those buckets, I move a lot of firewood around from where I cut and split to the woodshed. Would be better than the dirt bucket. I loved the "I think they already know me" from Mike lmao.

    Because just one pair of sun glasses is not enough.
    Grill him Melissa during the interview. Ha!!
    Pictures of when Mike worked in the field would be nice.

    It's possible that one bucket got cut from the video, but it looked like Melissa counted the first 5, and then appeared to only be one more bucket shown appeared not to have any extra in between, so 6 buckets I think.

    My question to Mike is: How does it feel having outkicked the coverage with a wife like Melissa?

    The rock bucket we use is smaller then yours. We put a back on it so the wood doesn't fall out the back and we can get abit more in. We are 10 buckets for a full cord. Using the bucket is the way to go.

    when you loading the crates, you could use the bucket and lift the split wood up to a height that would allow you not to have to bent over as much

    I guessed it would take 6 minutes and it would be 7 buckets worth.
    Had Melissa not *ripped you off* by starting the stopwatch a minute early....
    I would've been right on!!!
