    Back in the 70s I flew the BO-105 in airshows at Paine Field in Everett,WA, and Mark was flying the HyperBipe. His precise maneuvers were awesome! He definitely outclassed most of the rest of the us with his routine.

      There is always a bit of a time crunch in these interviews and trying to cover everything in a 15m-19m segment is surely a challenge. There is more to come soon with a "round table" interview with Mike discussing his history as an Aerobatic Flight Instructor and many other things he has done in the past. Keep watching! :-)

      In germany these types of hangars are common. First, we dont have the space to allow for individual hangers and the taxiways, and second aviation here is more organized in groups or clubs, which own a hangar for their planes. Just check the internet

    Thanks to both you and Mike for the intro to this interesting model, and Mike’s great example build. I particularly appreciate his going into the flight characteristics, and calling out the tradeoff around spin entry/exit. Seems like a bad choice for a competition acro trainer, but a uniquely good choice for someone who wants to cruise at 150+, get inverted, get in and out of short strips, and enjoy elbow room. Nice work y’all.

    It nice to see an older design featured. Everybody want to see the latest and greatest. Rag and tube use to be the way. I remember that change when in the mid 70s Burt Rutan appears with his creation and glass birds took off.

      I got the chance to fly with Mark back in the seventies in his first HyperBipe. I was in my mid twenties at the time and owned a Common Wealth 185 Skyranger. I flew into Mark's air field in Tenino Wa just as Mark was going to take out the HyperBipe for a flight and he asked me if I wanted to ride along, I jumped at the chance. We were out for about forty five minuets and had a blast. I was amazed at how easy the plane was to fly. Mark did some aero's that were so smooth you could hardly feel anything. I've lost track many years ago of Mark and his family. I heard he stopped to work on the plane because of legal problems! What a shame to loose a great plane like the HyperBipe!

      I know the Imps were kind of a nich aircraft. Molt was onto something with their designs to be honest.

I drive a mechanical engineer friend crazy comming up with easier and simpler ways to do the same task... as Ford said parts left out can cause no service problems.

    An amazing story... Truly about how a lot of people helped create a " Wow" and a wonderful small aerobatic airplane. The work done on something as a basic simple flying machine and with the complex solutions of making things work great... Would like to know how it flies faster upside down vs right side up...?

    • @makomike3757
      @makomike3757 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Terry, the airplane has 0° dihedral on the top wings and 1.5° positive on the bottom wings. When you flip that dihedral upside down it decreases drag and will indicate 160-165 mph typically vs 155-160 upright.
