    I was the original builder of this Pitts 12 with help and support from the 12 community, friends and the Kimball's. It flies better than it looks!!!!

    Just love the sounds that radial makes especially at idle. Sounds like a real hot rod.

    That a treat to see a plane builder of perfection. With CNC machining of components you get symmetrical.

    I’ve never been very interested in owning a biplane until this moment!

    A mean machine, a 'Beast' in fact. That livery is beautifully executed. Super excited to see that this beauty is being produced again, if ever there was a classic that deserved to live on. Blows my mind to see the tiny wing attachment brackets on something as aerobatic as this

    I was at Oshkosh in 1985 and I saw a guy walking around with a T-shirt that said, real airplanes have round engines and biplane wings, I really wish I had purchased one of those shirts

      Not 100% on that John. Sound like Ed knows a little on the history on that one. :-) I too... was inspired and motivated by a "Pitts" that would practice near my home as a child. It took off from a nearby Airpark (that I later met many Pilots and even worked at for a short period).

    I have always been an advocate for Douglas Fir and grew up in the NW where it grows, however Southern Yellow Pine has considerably higher fiber strength and is actually lighter than Doug Fir. It seems like it would be ideal for aircraft construction

    • @cluelessbeekeeping1322
      @cluelessbeekeeping1322 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Strength to weight ratio is all that matters & Douglas Fir is more gooder. Stika Spruce is better than both.

    that was later on Scaled up into a full-size Machine even though was still very small.
    But i gut says a lot of guys here already know this detail.

    • @ian323
      @ian323 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct. It’s a Russian engine design that was manufactured in both Russia and Romania. Russian engines are hard to come by today. The Romanian manufactured versions are easier to source. I think this is what Don was trying to say during the interview.

      It's an M14. What's to talk about?

    • @ExperimentalAircraftChannel
      @ExperimentalAircraftChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was talked about. And the gear reduction. And... the Engine RPM Vs. the prop RPM (2,800 Vs 2,000) and some modifications over the years that gained about 90HP increase "reliably." Sorry we couldn't go deeper into showing the engine (uncowled) and the construction of that. That... wasn't available to us at the time of interview. Etc. In fact... the Red M21 wasn't present at that time and we obtained that at a later date. Hope you enjoyed some of it. 🙂

    All the comments are well and good ,but people who have 300k plus to spend on a aircraft apart from the odd one or two ,think about the thing being serviceable and spare parts being available , how Many kit plane businessess have been around for the last 50 years ? You can buy a second hand piper , buy a twin engined for 80k And the reason why they don't last regardless of how amazing the aircraft is that, ,they go bust , because the industry is penned off by the big corporations and leisure Flyers are on a budget , build a one off put your heart and soul into it , your friends are going to be impressed , but stop making businessess out of it , or at least make something that that is within reach of more people , I mean if you could build a safe easy way to fly for 5 - 7k you will sell a bucket load of em . But this guy in the video shapes like a man whose got into the same trap as the rest of them that try making this kind of business.

  • @almosh3271

    How can this be fair? Someone buys 300 k plane and some of us got to food bank for food. I worked for over 40 years and that's what I got. How unfaire this is!!!!
