Kung Pipili ng Kandidato

“Kung Pipili ng Kandidato” brings to the fore the question of what leaders ought to be (“‘yan ba‘ng nararapat na katangian”), especially in the context of increasing disasters and climate change (“pagdaan ng bagyo at matinding baha,” “bayang supling ng bagyo at bulkan”). A good leader, the song forwards, must have considerable competence, credibility, and track record (“resibo ng serbisyo ay kakarampot,” ”huwag magpalinlang sa mga bulaan”). In addition to being resolute, diligent, and socially and environmentally conscious, he or she should also put humanity at the center of his or her actions (“dapat makatao”) and be adept in managing difficult, complex situations (“at kayang mamuno sa mga oras ng delubyo”).
The song ultimately calls for a paradigm shift in the way we select our leaders (“hindi ba dapat mapoot,” “nakakasawang palusot”) in order to realize the goal of a more progressive and resilient Philippines (“nang maprotektahan pag-unlad ng bayan”).
