Not a BC grad but a huge BC fan. I was 19 in boot camp in great lakes Illinois and I forged a pass to go to the exchange on the base where they had TV's and pool tables and phones etc.. But I wasn't allowed there yet but I did some scheming and I got in for the 2nd half. I risked major trouble if I got caught but I wanted to see this game so bad cause I heard how Notre Dame beat FSU the prior week. Anyways I was surrounded by Notre Dame fans. I was in Chicago so nobody was rooting for BC but me and this dude from NJ. Anyways everyone was at the edge of their seats. And when Gordon's kick went through I went crazy !! Cause everyone was talking shit when we blew the huge lead. The ND fans were taunting me !! I went nuts running around. It was one of the greatest moments for me as a sports fan ! Go BC
I am a diehard Irish fan, bottom line, we had a ton of miscues that would cost us in the end of this classic, the dropped interception will always haunt me forever by Pete Bercich, always!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I always imagined what the kicker David Gordon might be doing these days. No matter what, he’ll always have that memory. Kudos to him! That was a big pressure kick in a hostile environment when 40+ yard FGs were not made quite as often as today.
Kharma paying back ND. Didn't Holtz run a fake punt that ND scored a TD on when they had the game in control the year before? Lot of ND haters had a good day.
I remember visiting my late grandparents before Thanksgiving in Columbus Georgia watching this game on their nbc affiliate WLTZ channel 38 plus on that same day Michigan spoiled Ohio state rose bowl chances by winning 28 to nothing
@michaelpacak3401 oh they definitely deserved it with all the top 25 teams we played that year, 7 to be exact, and 4 of them were top 10 teams! So please go sit down somewhere with that bs you are talking....

They were ranked 17th and then we turned around and beat Texas Am in their back yard, bottom line, if you lose you lose, but for Fla St. to only drop one spot after we handled you, in which also, you were a 7 point favorite, shows how rigged the system was back then.
And this is why I’ll always hate Boston College because of this game right here. Whenever Notre Dame plays BC for now on I hope they always run the score up on them.
Payback for BC. ND ran the score up on them the year before by running a fake punt for a TD when ND had the game won. This loss still resonates to this day. ND can get into the BCS but they are really no match for GA, BAMA or LSU. That's why Kelly left. He could only get ND far.

They played the year before in 1992 also in South Bend at Notre Dame. Why did they play back to back years in the same stadium? Aren’t they supposed to alternate?? If this game was at BC. The Irish would have been more focused. Instead of staying home after the Florida State win, hearing about how great they were and had the Title already in the bag. Going out on the road, Notre Dame would have played better.
Hey Kev, I was at that game, in the end zone where BC clinched the game with the the field goal. We found out later that Foley jokingly told the kicker "if you miss, you're walking home", to take off the edge. The worst thing a team can do is to write-off Tom Coughlin. He is a master at beating big teams. Teams will negotiate schedules years before the games occur and sometimes back to back home games occur. Its all in the agreements. This recently occurred because of Covid where BC had to play in Clemson a couple of times in a row because of scheduling. I was at both BC victories vs Clemson when they first joined the ACC. I have to say both ND and Clemson have nice fans. They love football and love the events. I've been to ND five times and I've been to Clemson twice (I love that firetruck and the Esso club). They are great places to see games.
Why were the Irish not penalized when their fans literally came to celebrate after their last touchdown? I don’t care for either teams and it is what it is but I’m just curious.
I bet they held off because they knew the media wants the pageantry. It was "good TV". If a penalty was thrown and BC won, they would be singing a different song. This way they got beat strait-up. What a lot of people don't know is the refs screwed up a BC touchdown earlier in the game by calling a receiver out of bounds, but the replay showed the receiver to be in-bounds by an obvious margin. It was a terrible call, but they had to move on.
ND was better, just not on that day, which happens. That’s why they play the games. Don’t forget the officials also robbed BC of a TD, pre-review times. Clear missed call. Might not have been as close as it was, but again not surprised ND came back. That was an excellent program back then. Now, just “good/very good.”
